((We're all limited to the same skills in the beginning to keep everything balanced. RPers can make their own skills once they've fully mastered a path.
It's a shame you won't be able to use those in the official RPs though. I was looking forward to seeing how your character would fare in the main plot. D: ))

I can later on ignore the basic skills and proceed to use my own skills.
RPing is not about ballancing the people in it. it's about knowing and being able to RP with the unwritten rules of RPing.]]

((Without a standard set of skills to follow it'd be rather chaotic though, so I think the system we're following is good. And yeah you could always do that lol; master your path fast and start making your own skills, ignoring everything else. Though I think the mods will have to approve of them first before you can use them? I'm not sure.
Anyhoo, I'm gonna stop talking before I spam this place with OOC. xD))

(( I guess I should point out that there is absolutely no point in developing skills that aren't present on the main sheet o___O Because you aren't upping your rankings by learning skills you've created yourself. Nii is completely right. I created this system so that everyone would be able to stay on the same footing, with no overpowered characters from the beginning. It's nothing to do with knowing how to rp or not. Nii is on exactly the same low level as everyone else, and I'm sure it's blatantly obvious she's a fantastic rper. In fact, the best rpers I've come across take part ONLY in rps where there are strict rules for them to follow. You don't like MY rules? Try this site, for one thing. I can dig out other examples of rps where the slightest little thing requires mod intervention/approval, if you want. You can be an elementalist without crafting your own skills. There's control of water and air/electricity, and if you wait for the SIN system to be conceived your character in particular will have access to fire and possibly another element. So um, I guess that's all I was trying to say. Except that YES, skills you craft yourself WILL require approval - again because it's so easy for them to be overpowered. I'm counting on most skills getting passed straight away, though. ))

[[Guess I won't up my ranking then and stick to the onofficial RPs.
The only good RPs are those where people can actually use their OCs anyways.
Having a bound system limits people to improve in RPing in my opinion.
People don't learn, they just do as their told to which makes them good at following orders but not at actuall RPing ^_^
Skills never are overpowered, their as effective as described and the one who takes the hit always determines the effectivenes.
I've never seen Nii RP so I can't judge her RP skill. Maybe she'll allow me to find out in an unofficial RP someday
RPs where mods have to act just have horrible RPers. Real RPers don't need them as they know the unwritten rules of RPing]]

((Uh oh, I feel pressured now LOL! I wouldn't really say I'm awesome, but I think I RP fairly well.
And I disagree. That isn't always the case. Having limits can very well help improve RP if you look at it as a challenge. How can I maneuver my character effective in this particular scenario by only using this set of skills? How can I make my character reflect that s/he is training for this particular skill? What effect will this have on my character's personality? His/her actions? Etc. It all depends on the RPers themselves whether they choose consider these things or not.
If you want to discuss this further, I suggest going to the Clam Ballot subforum and express your thoughts there instead. We're going to fill up RP space if we keep at it like this. xD))
