Kat smiled, "I know I'm relaxed now that you point it out. I just didn't see it coming, or have it on my mind to think about. Which is odd, for me at least. Hmm, perhaps. Simple is always nice." She followed his gaze to the cereals, "buying something for the kid or for yourself? because no grown man should ever eat a cereal with pink and white heart marshmallows."

"The kid." Jarred laughed, grabbing some grossly obnoxious cereal and tossing it into the cart. He pushed the cart along out of the aisle. "I need to remember to pick up some large blankets. I don't think I have quite enough at my place for everyone." He said as he stepped away from the cart, grabbing a fifty pound bag of dog food, placing it under the cart.
"So was it all bad, living the life you did?"

"People can always cuddle if necessary." Kat watched as he lifted the dogfood into the bottom of the cart, then tilted her head thinking a moment. "I don't really have another life to compare it to, now do I? I wouldn't say it was all bad, though, no life is." Kat started walking and shrugged her shoulders.

Jarred spent a moment of silence, following her with the cart. "Sorry if I hit a sore spot." He said eventually, grabbing some butter.

Kat looked at him a moment, as if in debate, but she shook her head, a slight smile on her face, "I'm fine. Though I should return the favor, what of you then? Do you like your life?"

"My life? I'm living the dream, aren't I? Rich, young, bachelor with my own business and not a care in the world." He smiled back at her. "Well, I've had a few cares added in the past few days." He shrugged as they walked. "But yes, I like it well enough."

Kat nodded as they walked, pausing to put a bag of unpopped popcorn into the cart. "Does it bother you, what I can do to people with my kiss?"

He considered the question for a moment.
"No, I don't think so.
"Does it bother you that it doesn't seem to work on me?"

Kat let out a laugh at the question, taken aback slightly. "No, oh no. It's quite a relief, actually, and a temptation all at once.

"I hate kissing. I hate it with a passion. I learn things I never wanted to know of people, and that they never wanted me to know. Not to mention I'm not prone to kiss very many nice guys who keep their thoughts in a decent manner. And then I get to hear those thoughts out loud for the next hour. Or you think a guy likes you one moment, a kiss later you find out he's just using you for a promotion. Then there are the people who enjoy your kiss, and you know they shouldn't, because it's practically a mind rape, and you want to strangle them for asking for it again and again, when all you want is a chance to be in your own head, with a little peace." Kat shook her head, "God I hate kissing. But at the same time, I've never had a real kiss. It's always been a tool, and I've never been able to just feel it, without getting distracted by someone's else's thoughts and experience.

"So no, the fact it doesn't work on you, doesn't bother me, aside from the temptation to do it again."

"Huh." Jarred replied simply, not entirely sure how to respond. He was quiet for a few more moments before speaking up. "So were you serious about leaving the group?"

Kat nodded, "I was. Of all of us, I'm the only one Linc knows of, and is actively hunting for. I'm not exactly the most safe person to hang around, if you happen to have powers. Throw in a possible kidnapping to the mix and it may as well explode. "

Jarred shook his head, the grin still clinging on. "The kid was a bad idea, but I guess being a hero is the job, right?" He grabbed some more groceries. "Well, he can't be everywhere, so for what it's worth, I don't think you should leave." He grabbed a few blankets and got into a checkout line.
"Besides, if you left, what would happen to the whole awkward temptation thing between us?"

"You and your heroes and villains. He should have just called someone anonymously to take the kid home." Kat raised her eyebrows, "Awkward?" She grinned, "I hadn't realized it was awkward for you. And I would have likely taken my kiss before I left."

Kat scanned the gum rack, before grabbing a lemonade flavored chewing gum and set it on the checkout counter, "would go better with cranberry than the cinnamint," she teased.

"The bad guys might have gone after the family. He might not have thought it through, but he had his heart in the right spot, I'll give him that."
"Awkward as it may be, I'm not sure if I could turn you down. If kissing a pretty girl makes me a hero..." He shrugged with a smile, loading the items into the check stand and paying for them.

"That tends to sum Rook up rather well, I suppose." Kat helped load up the cart as Jarred was paying. "And are you that desperate to become a hero?" Kat asked.
