Only God has the right to give or take life. We as humans do not, this is proven throughout history, make bad decisions even when we think we are doing the right things. Yes God does give us free will to do as we want but we will also deal with the consequences for all we do. How much do you value life in it self? This is the question. God has the answer, all you have to do is look but not just in the Bible but all around you. God never said this life would be easy, just that it would be worth it. If we live life with this in mind the word JOY. J-Jesus 1st, O-Others 2nd, and Y-Yourself 3rd then maybe the question about abortion will never be.

Pinkade Only God has the right to give or take life. We as humans do not, this is proven throughout history, make bad decisions even when we think we are doing the right things. I agree that we have no right to take a human life which could arguably be extended to other forms of life. The fetus is alive, it was alive from conception onward so despite our limited capability to grasp, emphasize with and really come to terms with something that is so small and that we cannot physically observe as it grows (in the way that we can when it is born) we still should rely on the reality of the fact that that is a human life, 'life' being the operative word here. The problem comes in when we realize that there are at least two lives that are involved here and it can only begin to be resolved when both sides acknowledge that fact.

My question is, if someone's threatening to kill you and you had the ability to kill them first (as an act of self defense), would you, or would you rather die before you'd harm them?

Which life is more important the mother or the child. One cannot live without the other. The child's life depends on the mother moreso out of the womb.

It's really nice what you say, but note one thing: the life's quality of Y has a mayor influence on O's life. Especially if O is Y's baby.

I'd most probably try to avoid the attack. If I can't and I know that the only way to defend is to kill... I can't say what I'd do, I've never been in such situation, I'd like to say I'll let them kill me, but I am aware of some instincts I have that might take control, as most probably I'd be shocked by that attack. But how this relates to the topic anyway? I'd like to know, maybe I'm misunderstanding something...

I can't say what I'd do, I've never been in such situation, I'd like to say I'll let them kill me, but I am aware of some instincts I have that might take control, as most probably I'd be shocked by that attack. But how this relates to the topic anyway? I'd like to know, maybe I'm misunderstanding something... Some people can see the child growing as an attacker. Stealing nutrients, the possibility of the mother dying in child birth.. If you were put into a position some people would view as similar, wondering how you'd react. Would you defend yourself, or let them harm you, possibly kill you?

If G-d is the only one who has the right to take a life, killing those microorganisms is wrong on our part.

You know, we've got enough people as it is. Appealing to ignorance about a "cancer cure" works just as well with "Genocidal Dictator", so its more about sparing the kid the agony of growing up in a family that gets fined by uncle sam for not being able to afford health insurance.
