Wait, what? She doesn't sound like she understands why I'm here...
"Behind the seven rooms... where the night bird watches? What kind of riddle is that?"
"Tha's YER job, Mr. Sleuth," Ghis said, adding some sarcasm into the mix. "Bu' come now, ye know... night bird? Ye told us all 'bout it earlier?"
"Night bird... night bird... ohh! THAT night bird! The owl! Right. I looked for that place earlier. It's across town, but we could make it without too much trouble. Its name is..."
(I'll leave that up to you, Renault, since I never got a name of the place from you.)
They moved across town as fast as they could. With Ghis in the group, it wasn't any problem getting the guards to stand aside. It DID require some running, but this time it could be worth it. Finally, for once, they'd solve this long before the suspect would have guessed, and they'd catch him with his pants down! ...Well, he could keep his pants up, at least. It was a figure of speech.
They arrived, Ghis panting and Javert breathing hard. Jin's breathing was clearly quicker, but it didn't sound particularly hard for someone whose occupation was known as "Priest".
"Here, huh?" Ghis asked. "Right. You," he said, pointing to Amelia, "watch the front door. Make sure 'ee doon't try t' get oot. Fireman, back us up. Ready, Javert?"
"I'm with you!"
"Good. Le's go."
As Ghis and company turned to enter, Jin thought for a moment. Has she guessed? It's hard to tell. He DID have a Mend staff with him, along with a first-aid kit visible from a pocket at his waist. Maybe he shouldn't have said what he said when she appeared. Rhys had given his blessing to sleuth about town, after all. As long as this didn't turn into a struggle that required him to enter combat, she might not need to know a thing...

"You can't blame yourself. Blaming yourself and falling into depression, it won't change anything. You have to look →forward→. Remember what you have here now. Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from Elibe or anywhere else!" XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Amelia}Amelia kept to silence as the veteran Guard members spoke amongst themselves. She had no idea to the true nature of this clue, and thus her input would be worth very little. She made sure to pay attention to them, however, and when they finally realized the answer, Amelia could think of the tavern in question on the other side of town.
She kept up fairly well with Jin, Ghis, and Javert, all things considered. She wore more armor than the Bishop or Halberdier, and while Ghis was a heavily armored fighter like herself, he was more proficient at moving around with that added weight than she was--it was why she didn't wear as much armor as other Generals. She just couldn't move efficiently enough under all that weight. Ghis, however, didn't seem to be slowed at all.
Amelia leaned her elbow against the wall once they had arrived at the tavern. Her breathing wasn't as labored as Javert's, but her panting was certainly audible. She looked over at Jin for a moment as he recovered his breath first, deciding that the Bishop was certainly in shape for a man who practiced the magical arts. Usually they weren't in possession of such good endurance.
Amelia's spine straightened as Ghis pointed at her. Wait, she was going to be the watch person? Amelia had expected to be able to help take him down inside the tavern... she managed to hide the disappointment on her face with a small nod as she settled against the wall, right next to the front door. She held her lance in both hands now, watching the street warily as each passing second added an extra thin layer to her already-packed nervous thoughts. People are going to finally stop dying... people are going to finally stop dying... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Graceful Spear}XXXXXXXX"What... I mean is... Where ever I wander, where ever I roam, There's only one place I'll ever call 'home'The Magic Swordman Master Lord, Roy Roy was wandering around town, wondering if any new clues had been found, and what the Watch was up to. It was long past Curfew. He was a mess: hair messier than usual, clothes wrinkled, and what appeared to be lacy panties on his head, though it was too dark to tell. It was definitely a busy night for him. Honestly...sure he was popular with the girls. Sure, he could sweet talk his way into a nice A support with a vast majority of them. But really, even just simple conversation was enough for them to invite him over for dinner. And...the girl that invited him over got a little tipsy and stuff happened. He got away after things got a little too far. He didn't have that much to drink, but it was enough to temporarily mess with his mind a little. He glanced up at the starry night sky as he reached up to pull the panties off his head and stuff it in his bag. "Sheesh...that late already? Probably past curfew too. I wonder if I can make it back to the inn..." he muttered with a sigh. It wasn't long before he had noticed a familiar blond loli with heavy armor running amongst a priest in dark garb, another General, and a Halberdier. Was that...? It could have been. How many other blond females were there wore heavy armor like that be in a group of people like that? Definitely not a lot, and he had quite the list to go with. "Well well...something's got their attention. And it's piqued my curiosity. I just hope they don't catch me..."The young lord smirked before he followed them, keeping his distance from the Watch members. It wasn't long before they reached a tavern, and Roy hung back, using the shadows from the buildings to hide his presence. He had almost lost the group several times, but he was able to find them again thanks to the clinking of armor in the silent night. By now, he had sobered up and was dealing with a slight hangover. He wondered what they were doing here of all places? Maybe getting a drink to let loose some steam from the murders? No...if that was the case, then why did they run? Something important was here, that was for sure. And if the big guy, who he assumed was the leader of the Watch, was with them, it probably had to do with the murders. Roy pressed against the wall and sidled closer to the group, trying to stay hidden but at the same time get close enough to hear them.
I'm a Master Lord on an epic quest Hurt my family and you'll be impaled by my Magic swords, you pest.

Melethia sighed a bit. She knew she was going to be asked about that fire. She was tagged as a pyromaniac by some. She got her way out of the alleyway and into the streets. There is where she found Roy sneaking around.
"What is Roy doing?" She asked herself. She looked farther away from Roy and she saw some people in armor.
"They might be members of the watch. I better follow Roy and see." With that Melethia did some more stealth and followed the red-haired lord. She mentally cursed every time Roy almost lost the watch. She almost wanted to grab Roy by the hair and knock him out with her book, but she resisted those temptations and contuned to follow him.
'A tavern?' She thought, 'Wonder what they are doing there?' She got as close as she could with out Roy or the Watch noticing her. She wasn't going to be able to hear a whole lot but all she needed to do was to see what was going on and be able to still track them by scent if they left.

Ed skidded to a halt as a blaze lit up the darkness of the alleyway, smoke consuming the area in no time at all. The wolf snarled, bristling and lowering her head as she crouched toward the fire, knowing that fires didn't light up so quickly unless it was a powerful spell. She was right. That dragoness had gone down here.
The wolf trotted toward the fire, letting loose a series of barks that followed Melethia. Her lips were pulled back in a show of fangs, face twisted with fury as she let off bark after bark, glaring through the smoke that rose from the burning book. A face appeared at the end of the alleyway from which Ed had entered.
Ed, herself, was confident enough to believe nothing would catch on fire there. She tensed herself, shutting her muzzle for a moment to focus, then sprinted forward to bypass the burning book and catch up to the dragoness. The smoke had thrown Ed off her scent trail and the crackling was distracting her ears, but nevertheless the wolf barked furiously as it pounded down the alleyway, certain it would find Melethia one way or another. Her eyes flashed in the nighttime darkness.

I ain't givin' in, no matter how hard th' fight before me looks t' be!
>{Leon}< Leon had been sleeping after another fruitless search for the killer in his duties on the early morning Watch. It wasn't like the knight was sleeping peacefully though, he was greatly bothered by the fact the case was taking him so long to solve!
Two days as plenty, and this was going on three. Likely another killing was on the way.
These weren't good thoughts to be having as one drifted into slumber however... for a disturbed mind often amplified one's dreams to a even more troubling and even frightening images.
Time ended up passing quickly though, just like the first two nights before... the morning rays poking through his closed eyes and making them pop open.
Same old routine, get up, eat breakfast... go across the street to the Watch house...
But it was the last part that had disturbed his routine. There was something... not right about the Watch House. First of all, the ones who usually guarded the front entrance and gave the Lieutenant a fond greeting were nowhere to be found. From the looks of it, windows were broken out of the tall fortress-built Watch House, and the gate was... forced open.
The knight dismounted quickly now, his heart beating twice as fast as normal, his pace doubling by the second as he took a mad dash inside. And that is when he saw it.
All around, there were corpses, everywhere. Blood had been spattered in a messy array on the floor... and all these corpses had one thing in common. They were all wearing Watch armor of some sort. Some of them were just clean-cut stabbed, shot by arrows, but others... it was a sight beyond a sane man's description...
He turned left... heart racing ever more.. and now the knight was quivering uncontrollably with his axe drawn, not that it would do him any good. Leon was in no composure to be using a weapon... and Anri was outside. He was alone, so alone.
Again, another door that was forced open... the one that led to the briefing room he was so familiar with. It was now a twisted image of what it once was, bloodstained and strung with corpses, corpses with the faces of his squad! Just above the head chair, Leon's own superior and hero had been impaled through the head with a javelin... and a single note attached.
Eyris is changing... and this is what I meant.
All that came next was a scream.
And then pure silence was all around him... The Watch House disappeared, the Watch House strewn in the dead blood of Leon's brothers. The knight found himself still screaming, but he wasn't there, not even close to there, and the sun wasn't up. Leon looked at his shaky hands, still only dressed in the chain mail he slept in. His eyes wondered for a while before grabbing a match and striking the flame to light a candle. After blowing the match out, the Lieutenant shone a dim light on the sundial he had by the window. Midnight. All those terrible images... had luckily, hopefully been a nightmare.
"Good luck sleepin' now." He grumbled. Leon stretched, staring at his black plate armor for only a second before making the decision to at least attempt helping the night Watch with the case. He was an officer, and could fit himself in cases far easier than the others... that was one of his rank's many perks.
The first question he'd ask... he was already thinking as he'd gone through his (normally morning) ritual was where Ghis, the one assigned on the case was. The Captain was pulling a double shift, some dedication! The least he could do was the same. As soon as he found out what side of Town Ghis was on (and it was fast!), Leon found himself and Anri riding off once again from a thankfully in-tact Watch House to aid them, pulling a double shift would wreck havoc on his senses, but it's not like he'd sleep unless this case was solved.>{Watch Lieutenant}< If ya just bel'eve, then... ev'n if th' world be torn asunder, vict'ry will be yers to hold!

Well, this was fun. Kishuna had been spending a while lately "interacting" with the NPC's; all kinds of them, actually, and he'd started to get famous around the town. Well, maybe it was more like infamy than anything. But whatever the case, he was POPULAR, though he had been told to wear a shirt by more than one bar patron when he attracted mid-sized crowds around wherever he was sitting, usually clogging the aisles and making all sorts of mess.
Right now, in the Screeching Owl tavern and 'brothel', the golden eyes were staring with amusement at a young woman, still unclothed, who was looking back at him with a mischievous smirk. "So, not done yet?" Actually, unlike most others Kishuna was free to wander around and do what he wanted. After all, a morph was sterile. It wasn't possible for him to impregnate anyone. At this moment, the woman was getting ready to pounce on him; then a loud commotion came from downstairs. The morph winced a little. They must have run over here. Damn, he was supposed to be watching, and he didn't even get a break. Oh well. He pulled on his clothes quickly without a word to the girl, then strolled out the door. The girl stared after, then followed. "Hey! Where are you..."
Her voice trailed off at the sight of armed men downstairs. She made a little sound of disbelief, then scurried back into her room, locking the door behind her. Kishuna descended the stairs, giving a little smile at Amelia's back; she was sort of like a niece to him, wasn't she? He and Renault were best friends, so... eh, wasn't important. He'd think about it later. He turned to Ghis and sighed, shaking his head. "Wrong door, you got the clue wrong. BEHIND the night bird, not straight through the front door. Go around back and use that key, you've got it for a reason." One hand came up, kneading his forehead. "I told him you wouldn't understand it that well, but he never listens to ME. Oh, no."

Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from Elibe or anywhere else!" XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Amelia}Amelia's entire form tensed as seconds slipped past and still they hadn't made any sounds indicating that they had found what their clue had lead them to... were they lost in the dark or something? Amelia gripped her lance tighter as she heard a slight shuffling noise in the close distance; was someone approaching? "Who's there...?" Amelia called. No response.
Amelia bit her lower lip. Why was she getting this nervous? Jin, Captain Ghis, and Javert could clearly handle whatever was in there... or whoever was in there... why was she panicking?
Amelia jumped a little as she heard a familiar voice from within the room. "Uncle Kishuna?" she murmured. She turned and stepped halfway into the doorway, looking into the room. Sure enough, there he was, speaking to Captain Ghis. What he was saying, though, made her eyes widen. Her lance fell from her hands and onto the floor.
"BEHIND the night bird, not straight through the front door. Go around back and use that key, you've got it for a reason. I told him you wouldn't understand it that well, but he never listens to ME. Oh, no."
Amelia stared for a second. "...but he never listens to ME..." He's with Tura... Uncle Kishuna is helping a murderer...! Why the nine hells is he helping that psychotic dastard?!
Amelia moved her hand to her pocket, removed the key, and stared at it for a moment. She hesitated maybe a second within the doorway, still visible, illuminated from behind by torchlight. The next second, she was running at a full-blown sprint for the back door. She couldn't explain the sudden urgency she harbored. The thought of her uncle helping that murderer was clouding her thoughts; all she knew was that she had to reach that crime scene. It couldn't be anything else.
Amelia jabbed the key at the keyhole a couple of times, swearing once, then finally got it in with her shaking hand and twisted it hard. When she heard the mechanism within the door click, Amelia wrenched the door open wide, chest heaving from her sudden exertion and building panic. "...Behind the night bird, eh? Right. Javert, go help her," Ghis noted, gesturing to the door. "Fireman, yeh stay here."
The General climbed the stairs, not taking his eyes off Kishuna's face. "So! Yeh heard the clue, and yeh clearly know who wrote it. So why don't ye just come quietly, an' ah promise nae metal fists'll be flung?"
Jin stayed at the bottom of the steps, watching. One hand firmly clenched the Mend staff; the other seemed to be clenching something hidden by his cloak, but whatever it was, it wasn't likely to be an object friendly to Kishuna's body.

"That's right, I know who wrote it; he's an acquaintance of mine, I suppose you could say." The morph shrugged quietly keeping his eye on the men there. "It won't do you any good to try and take me in. I'm a morph; I don't feel pain the same way you do, so torture won't really work. And in any case, I haven't done anything, I've only been sent around to make sure the lot of you don't mess up TOO badly." He spread his arms, then gave a slight smirk down Ghis' way. "Personally, I haven't done anything. I just have information.
At Amelia's sudden move, Kishuna sighed even louder, shaking his head. "That girl is so impulsive sometimes, I swear... but Renault asked me to keep an eye on her just in case, so here I go." He glanced around at the Watch members, then spread his arms helplessly. "If you want to speak to me, you'll have to meet me around the back, this is not something I'd like that girl to see." A circle of red light, runes scrawled inside, surrounded the morph on the floor, then formed into a point and vanished, taking Kishuna with him.
This put him in a perfect position to be standing directly inside the back door to the tavern, arms spread to catch Amelia and pull her against his chest before she could enter the room. "Now, now, kid," he scolded. "This one isn't something young girls should be seeing. Or any girls, for that matter. Besides, the assassin's made it very clear that you are NOT to see this one, so I'm going to have to insist." He turned away from the door, pulling Amelia with him and keeping her pinned against his chest. "Besides, I need to talk to you."

Ghis was still coming up while Kishuna was talking. Hey, if he just wanted to blab on and on in some monologue, that was fine. It meant he could cover more ground and get less of a struggle...
...And then he vanished. Great, just a few more steps and this would have been over! Hmmph... ah, well. At least he was polite enough to say he'd just go to the back. Still, teleportation? That was cheap. Was the Assassin able to do that, too?
He turned to climb back down the stairs, noting that "Fireman" had already turned to leave...
Morphs. It was always those freaking MORPHS.
It was morphs who ruined the Black Fang.
It was morphs who imprisoned and tortured the FEF crew.
It was morphs who had tried to kill FEF again!
And NOW those, those... ABOMINATIONS were helping yet another killer!
Oh, it made perfect sense to Jin which side THIS morph was on. Vile fiends who did nothing but destroy!
To be fair, Kishuna HAD pointed out that they'd entered the wrong side of the building. But Kishuna was wrong; he HAD done something. He knew the Assassin, and was therefore guilty by association!
You won't teleport so fast this time, morph. I'll have your head, he thought as he ran with alarming speed towards the back door...
...Javert, however, beat Jin to the back door.
"H-hey! Amelia! Where are you?"

>{Leon}< There they were, just like the messenger told him! The Night Watch... and Leon was so eager to join them despite his weariness he had to overcome. Missing sleep didn't become a good habit, but being a recordkeeper well... maybe it wasn't so uncommon after all, sadly.
But what was this?
They just went on without him! Someone had to have told Captain Ghis he was coming! "Where do they think they be goin' wi'out me, now, Anri?! Speed up!"
The steed complied, he too almost offended, insulted by being left behind. He'd show them!
Mounts made everything faster. Before he could almost blink... Leon was seeing the backs of Javert and Ghis. "Oy, ya better 'ave a good reason for jus' goin' on 'head wi'out me when I got put on this case 'gain!"
But his speech stopped short of his usual outburst when he saw the key. Another clue, and despite all precautions, this murderer was again playing them like a Bard's lute! >{Watch Lieutenant}< If ya just bel'eve, then... ev'n if th' world be torn asunder, vict'ry will be yers to hold!

Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from Elibe or anywhere else!" XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Amelia}Amelia expected to see some sort of murder scene, maybe find something that would allow her to find Tura, but instead, there was a flash of red light and Kishuna was suddenly right in front of her. Before she had much time to absorb the unexpected appearance, his arms were tugging her tight against his chest. Even with her armor, he was strong enough to hold her back. Amelia squirmed against him; even with her arms free, she couldn't overpower him. Why couldn't she get out of the grasp of a man who fought by avoiding attacks?
"This one isn't something young girls should be seeing. Or any girls, for that matter. Besides, the assassin's made it very clear that you are NOT to see this one, so I'm going to have to insist. Besides, I need to talk to you."
"Oh, you need to talk to me?" Amelia demanded, her voice growing a little shrill. Something was straining deep inside her, close to the raw wound inflicted from her father's death. Amelia beat one fist against his shoulder, though it did little good; his embrace might as well have been made of iron. "Then talk to me! Why are you helping him? Why the hell are you letting Tura kill townspeople?" Amelia slammed her fist again into his shoulder, struggled again to get out of his arms, but to no avail. She could feel the tears coming--her uncle was helping an insane murderer. Her uncle...
No wetness came. She eventually calmed against him. Her arms wrapped tightly around his chest, as if to make sure he was solid and hadn't died as well. Suddenly she was overwhelmingly exhausted. Her voice came out clearly: "Explain... please. Why are you doing this?" XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Graceful Spear}XXXXXXXX"What... I mean is... Kishuna glanced around, having pulled the girl around the corner and out of sight for now. "All right. I'll have to make this fast, and I can't explain everything. First of all, this isn't as bad as you think. This chain of events started because of your father, you understand; and he wouldn't have started off such a thing if there were not some very good reason. Second, I have no choice in the matter; although I seem like a normal person, I'm still a constructed morph and I have to obey the orders of the one who created me. I won't say I agree or disagree with what is going on, but it isn't my choice." His voice had grown lower, and a bit dark and sad; as had the expression in his eyes. "But I promise you, it will be over soon. And..." He kissed her forehead softly. "That is from Father Renault. The last time I saw him, he asked me to tell you..."
"That he'll be seeing you again soon."
With that, the morph was gone; the Watch would certainly be after him now. Oh well. At least he wasn't in any danger of actually dying.

Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from Elibe or anywhere else!" XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Amelia}Amelia let Kishuna's words wash over her like a warm, salty wave. She bit her lower lip hard, almost feeling the skin break as he mentioned that the deaths 'weren't as bad as she thought.' Right, it's good that Tura's killing innocent people and mutilating their bodies... As he continued, though, the mentions of her father made Amelia's body tense a little. Dad. Dad started this.
Dad... started a chain of murders...? What good reason could there be from that...?
"Over soon... n-not much of a consolation," she managed, her voice shaking just slightly now. The soft kiss was enough to draw her eyes up to his, and she absorbed his words as she took in his expression, the forlorn quality in both his voice and eyes. The words, though, cut right to the raw wound, bringing a little sound out of her lips.
"Seeing... me again soon..." she started, but before she could finish, Kishuna had warped. The sudden absence of his weight to lean against sent Amelia toppling to the ground. She lay there for a moment, then slowly pulled herself to her feet. Her movements were shaky and slow, like she was simply trying to keep herself together, even as her thoughts swarmed.
Dad caused all this. He started this man on his murdering. But Uncle said it was for a good reason... But what good reason could come of this? And he'll see me again...? How... can he do that? He's dead...! The dead can't come back to life! And I don't even know the whole story of what happened to him... why he was gone for so long... is that connected to this?
Amelia looked up as Javert appeared. She was on the job. She wasn't a little girl anymore. She... she could handle this. Her eyes darted to the direction of the open door for a moment, where she hadn't been able to see in before her uncle arrived. Kishuna's words once again came to her thoughts, slowing her just a little: "The assassin's made it very clear that you are NOT to see this one."
Amelia stepped out from around the corner. "I'm... I'm right here. Uncle... Uncle Kishuna left. I don't know where. He teleported." she paused, feeling awkward now. "...I'm sorry. Go on in, I guess... apparently Tura doesn't want me seeing, and... I just... I'm not interested anymore." Amelia sat down against the wall and faced the street, opposite of the inside of the room. "I'll keep watch. You guys handle the investigating part." XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX{Graceful Spear}XXXXXXXX"What... I mean is...
