"Watchin' each other's backs, ya mean?" Leon chuckled. "That sounds like a plan, Ephraim!" he seemed to have raised his own morale considerably, as before, his spirits were as down as they could ever be. He noticed Blossom asking if she too could help out. Can't deny a lady her wishes... apparently, guarding everyone was hers. "Ya can help Ephraim over 'ere. I'll be waitin' for the hunters to return so I can help in roastin' our food."

Sue, after several hours of patience had hit her target without hesitation and mishap. She didn't LOOK terribly strong, but her strength was enough to lift her kill over her shoulders. One buck... that was enough to feed them for one night. This one was huge after all... and she had to be unmounted in order to aim for it properly and carry it back.

Nonetheless, Andre remained at her side, ever faithful. I wonder how FD, Nils, and Valter are doing? I want them to have a part of this.

Canas smiled as Ninian went back to being a mother. "I'll let you be for now. We can continue this at a later date." With that he rose swirling his cape and strode off. He sat just on the edge of camp, as he took the letter and placed it in a black journal. He began to write again. He was at the time of the pirates, when they had fought and he had joined Eliwood and the others, and met the children of destiny.

He reached the part where he met nergal, who like him was a practitioner of the Elder Arts of magic. This prompted him to look down at a second book. Ereshkigal, the tome weilded by the Dark Druid. He opened the pages and read a little of it before closing it once again. To ressurect life...He contemplated this. What was the secret held by that man to the creation of life. Yes, it had to do with quintessence, but how did that man harness and shape it? He thought about this. until he ran out of ideas, and thoughts returned to his dead wife.

Closer...Closer to the other side. That is what you wanted? Right Sheila?

Blossom nodded to the brown-haired man, her smile widening. It was good to see someone who wasn't about to turn her away from helping just because she looked young. "Ephraim? Okay. Where exactly should I be keeping watch, though?" Blossom adjusted her sword and pointed to random areas along the line of the camp. "Or do I patrol back and forth, or... what?"

"Goin' 'round the area sounds like a good idea. Ya can take th'left, while Ephraim takes th'right." Leon answered. "That way, there really ain't 'ny room for surprises."

"Sure thing" he watched as Blossom moved herself to the otherside and him to the right before sitting down on a old tree stump. Night watch, should be fun..least to the prince it was. There wasn't much going on now aside from..wait..there wasn't even crickets around..and usually by this hour you could hear at least millions of bugs scattering around and bird fluttering. That kinda creeped him out just a little.

FD went through the forested area they had made into their temporary camp to the base of the mountains which stood behind it. The open space it provided would allow for easier pursuit of targets and reduce the risk of burning something down (although he had no intention of Flametonguing his prey, it was best to take the precaution anyway so as to avoid instigating a forest fire). It had been millenia ago since he had actually gone hunting as a dragon, and he felt as though he wouldn't be able to do so properly. Due to their general inability to approach their targets without being noticed, dragons generally had to give chase (not that it ever took long). But most dragons didn't hunt in a human form. FD intended to catch his prey by surprise by tracking them in his substitute form, and then, once already near his target, transform for an easy kill. The only problem with this plan was finding something to hunt. A dragon's tracking abilities were reliant on their heightened senses. Senses which he possessed only in dragon form. Once well within the mountain ranges, he waited for something to appear nearby. "Kaoru, would you be able to lure anything out with your flute?" FD asked his companion.

Blossom nodded to Leon, adjusting her sword again. "The left? Okay!" Blossom chirped agreeably before hopping off in that direction. The area was quiet, something that Blossom found odd. No sounds of bugs, or animals, or even wind in the trees... it seemed a foreboding omen. Blossom shook it off, rubbed her hands together, and decided to walk in a slow circle around the perimeter of the encampment, heading from the left. Good way to at least keep herself awake, constantly moving and focus on the task at hand, yep.

Canas stayed up as the others rested, watching over mainly Ninian and Roy, but he kept an eye on the others. As he thought there was no one looking he wanted to give into despair. But he couldn't. Not right now. He thought. Something, anything to take his mind away from the Sadness. He remembered a little tune and began to sing it quietly.

"Flight of dragons soar in the purple light
In the sky or in my mind
Flight of dragons sail past reality
Leave illusion behind

Is it the past I see
When I look up to the heavens
Believing in the magic
That I know could never be

I want to go where they are going
Into the world they've been
Can I open up my mind enough to see

Flight of dragons, heavenly argosies
Catch the wind, rise out of sight
Flight of dragons, pilots of fantasy
In the sky or in my mind

Flight of dragons..."

For the moment, the Watch Lieutenant rested against his steed, Anri whom was relatively calm. Finally rested, comfortably, no nightmares to bother him, nothing torturing his mind. Leon was relaxed... even moreso by the music? Sure, Canas was no bard, but the lyrics... ah... the lyrics... bewitching! Leon usually hadn't have taken much to bards and their songs, but he loved it when the ballads sung of the dragons, archsages, and the knights of old! It reminded him of a time when 'honor', 'dignity', 'glory', and 'duty' were all just words with no weight, and where freedom was supreme for all. Before lords. Before obligations....

How glorious it must have been.

Nils followed closely behind FD, making sure not to trip over anything. The last thing he needed at the moment was a sprained ankle or any other type of injury. That would be rather bad, especially since, well, anything can happen at any given moment.

His hand rested against his flute and he gave his companion a slight nod. "I'm not exactly sure... but I can surely give it a try." He raised the instrument to his lips, playing an energetic tune while balancing on one foot. It was a strange habit of his to hop around while playing the flute, though he decided not to this time. His eyes closed and he focused entirely on attracting prey over with the music.

In the back of his mind, he regretted not bringing the cursed flute. With that, he could have just made a whole bunch of animals come and then it would be easy. The bard shook off the feeling though, placing both of his feet on the ground and lowering the flute. He still didn't trust himself. Besides, he didn't know something like this was going to happen! He couldn't tell!

The twitters of a flute drifted throughout the forest.

The silence was enveloping, disturbed by the rouncey's hooves thundering along the earth as he galloped along and by the notes of someone's flute. He tightened his hold on the reins, bowing his head to avoid low-lying branches. A light tap and a pull of the reins commanded the horse to slow to a trot. Without the pounding of hooves against earth, he could hear the melody fingering its way through the trees and shrubbery.

There was no one in sight. The song reverberated off of every tree, smudging its place of origin. The rider narrowed his eyes and examined the landscape. He focused his ears on the song, believing the voice of the instrument to be exceptionally familiar, and thusly determining where his destination must lay. He could have found camp on his own but suspected that the flute would make it undeniably easier.

What struck him as a bit odd that anybody would be playing a flute. Whatever the reason was, he simply hoped to himself that it would be of more help than harm and began to trot in what he believed to be the right direction, wagging the reins and scrutinizing the area with caution.

They advanced slowly, but his direction seemed to be true. Every length of distance brought him closer to the player, more than likely Nils. The melody was louder with each step, clearer and sharper. He found that he did not care for it. To most others, the song would have seemed beautiful, even tantalizing, yet he had no room in his heart for such beauty.

As his rouncey trotted on toward the source, twigs snagging at his hair and scratching at his white robes, Soren pulled his mount to a stop. He spotted a doe grazing just ahead, its head low and ears alert. Recalling from the seeing pool that the guildmembers were to be out hunting, he decided to be of some help. Very abruptly the horse was spurred forward and the doe darted away.

He chased the doe, careful not to let his rouncey slip and tumble. They darted around trees in a battle of agility as the doe ever widened the gap between them. Soren would not call upon magic; it would give him away. He wished to have some secrecy remaining to his nearly invisible presence.

The white-tailed deer burst out at Nils and the Fire Dragon. Soren pulled his rouncey to a quiet stop as they faded into view, keeping far from them. He was conspicuous in his white robes but the distance was sure to blur him into an indistinct silhouette amongst the foliage. He sat high as he observed the two.

Sister Victoria

After gulping down the contents of Tristai's waterskin, Victoria noticed that Arashe had offered her what little food he was carrying. The bishop took it, meaning to rest while eating it slowly to regain her strength. She'd do so quickly if she wanted to be any more help.

As she looked up, she noticed that the morale of the soldiers here was rising a little. That Watchman that followed them... he'd rallied some of them to guard their encampment. Not a bad head on his shoulders after all.

She took a nibble from the biscuit Arashe gave her, but soon after, that nibble became a full-fledged bite into devouring the offering.

Ninian sighed, relieved. "Don't worry about me; I'm fine," she assured her son. "And . . ." She closed her eyes for a moment. "No, no more headaches." The absence of the pain had her more concerned but . . no, no--it was still there. Just the dull throbbing she'd grown used to, but that was normal; they were exiles, and things were far from normal in Eyris, and probably in all Learania for that matter.

Roy spoke again, his words shocking her.

"No, Roy," she began, reaching gout to take his hand. "I wasn't hurt at all. Just because we were separated doesn't mean you failed at anything. You're a strong person; you living through that battle only proves that true. And I can take care of myself. I am an adult."

Technically that wasn't true; by dragon standards, she was a mere child; by human ones, she should be dead. By half-dragon standards . . . well, the only other half-dragon she knew was Nils, so there weren't really any standards. However, she looked to be eighteen or nineteen in human years, which didn't really count her as an adult. Regardless, she was capable of watching out for herself, and Canas, Nino, and Sue (among others) had been there to protect her and keep everyone in their rag-tag group safe.

"There's nothing to apologize for," she insisted. "If anything, I should apologize for leaving your side. I simply acted without a thought."

A shout from a rider she didn't know caught her attention. Seeing that he seemed to be gathering people together to form a watch rotation to guard their 'camp,' she returned her gaze to Roy, her son the most important thing--person--to her at the moment.

Roy smiled softly at his mother. She said she was fine, and...good. No more headaches bugging her now. He felt her take his hand before she spoke. He sighed and closed his eyes, holding her hand close.

"Ah...that's good...I guess I should thank Canas and the others for their help protecting you." he said softly, opening his eyes to look at her.

He then chuckled at her comment about her being an adult. He reached up with his free hand to touch his mother's cheek.

"Mother...you barely look older than me! But I suppose it's because of your heritage. Dragon-kin generally live longer than humans."

With this said, he wondered if he would live about as long as his Mother and Uncle, or if his lifespan was the same length as a human's.

He heard her apologize, and he shook his head. Had she not left his side to perform her dances to strengthen the others, the battle would have ended worse than it did. She did what she had to do, just as he had to do what he had to do.

"You don't have to apologize for that..." he said softly.

He lowered his hand from Ninian's cheek as he heard Leon call for help with the watch. Roy would have gone to help the watch, but he wanted to stay a little longer with his Mother.

He heard Canas's song, and closed his eyes. Perhaps...a bit more rest would help everyone. The more active ones, like Uncle, Sue, and FD were out hunting dinner. He decided. Once the meal was done, he would help with the Watch.

It felt so . . . normal, sitting here and talking with Roy. It was strange, yes, but completely normal. Ninian wondered if she'd ever get used to the idea that she had a son, she was a mother, and (most importantly) her son was alive and they were together.

"Flight of dragons soar in the purple light. . . ."

She turned her head, searching for the source of the strange sound. She realized it was singing--Canas was singing. It was such a sad sounding tune--no, not sad, but not happy either. She listened, the music giving her a sense of peace as it always had no matter what the music happened to be. Music and dancing were closely linked, after all, and both brought her joy, though she could not play an instrument like Nils could.

Turning back to Roy, she noticed his eyes closing. He still looked tired and worn out. "You should get some more sleep, Roy," she said softly. "I'll wake you when Sue and Nils get back with dinner." She was tired herself. Perhaps a short nap wouldn't hurt. . . .

Half falling to one side, she lay down, asleep in minutes.
