He couldn't really fault O'asis for that tone of voice; at least, he didn't -think- he could. It was certainly fitting enough, given the situation, and the bronzerider seemed a decent enough sort. Ceanandin decided to assume that he was not being mocked nod in response, his smile perhaps a touch more genuine. "And you as well," he offered Zara's way, then took O'asis's offered hand, giving it a firm shake. "I'm Ceanandin."

"I transferred from Fort Weyr a couple of sevendays back," he went on in explanation. A fat lot of good that transfer had him. He mentally kicked himself, a reminder to behave. "Just before the Gather. Are you both from this Weyr, then?" If O'asis was so familiar with the Candidates that missing one's name would baffle him, he must have been around for some time. Cean could only name a handful himself, excluding his roommates.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 10:28 am

"Ceanandin," O'asis repeated as he shook the hand. "Well, it's nice to meet you!" And he wasn't just being polite, either; he may not have netted himself a dragon on the sands - at least not this time - but he had earned himself a fair amount of respect for his bold determination.

"Ah, I know Fort Weyr," the blond reminisced. One of the few Weyrs in his memory that he didn't think he'd gotten into a fight at. "I'm not Weyrfolk, no. Was a Trader until I came here."

O'asis Mine, you're a Weyrfolk now, aren't you? Ukenath questioned thoughtfully.

"... All right, I suppose now I'm a Weyrfolk," he amended obligingly for the little bronze's benefit, "but I mean I wasn't always."

This still didn't seem to satisfy Uktenath, though. He gazed at O'asis and said nothing, but felt very certain - one couldn't just be or not be a Weyrfolk, a person who belonged in the Weyr. If His was a Weyrfolk now, then it had to always have been in him, and he just hadn't come to realize it yet somehow.

Merya made a face. "Ugh, I thought it must be something like that. Disagreeable old wherface that he is... - Oh, yes, I spotted her!" She was instantly grinning again, delighted by the gold firelizard and not at all fazed by C'mor's little revelation. So what if he'd stolen something? That was promising, even. She'd just have to teach him to be better at not getting caught... "I didn't like to remark, though - you know, everyone does, so I've always thought it must get tiresome. This little monster - " She pointed to her own shoulder. " - is Beru."

"Squeep!" said Beru cheerfully, chomping down on a large piece of meat and shaking her head to tear a piece free. She was getting the hang of doing this without pulling off more than she could chew.

"As you can see, she enjoys managing her food her own way," Merya chuckled. "I've found it's best just to leave her to it; provided there's not so much she can gorge herself she's fine to eat on her own, and she does have such fun doing it." On cue, Beru gave a little "sqrrrr..." and narrowed her eyes as she wrestled with the meat. Merya giggled at her. "See? Isn't she the sweetest thing?"

Surprisingly, Anidanth was somewhat comforted by Naedreth's prideful statement. This was partially because she'd missed the point of it. I do not mind being looked at, but being stared at is not nice. I am glad that you are bigger, so I can hide behind Mine and they will look at you instead. She gently headbutted Merya's leg, and crooned quietly when a little pale hand reached down to rub her eyeridges.

C'mor grinned and rolled his eyes, adding brief laugh as Beru squrred. "She's lovely! Yes though, they do comment. Lots of people seem to want to be friendly with me more than they did before. All very interested in when I think Gilden might clutch too. Funny that." Hilarious; not. Egh. He couldn't stand such falseness. "So where are you from, if you don't mind my asking?" C'mor went on. "I've lived here at the Weyr all my life, parents are riders, so if you need to know anything about the place that you've not already found out feel free to ask me."

Naedreth gave a rumble of sympathy to his clutchmate; being nervous couldn't be any fun at all! "I can see how staring could be upsetting. I don't mind it, but I still see how it could be nasty! I think soon people will stare at all of us less in any case, they will get used to us being here eventually." They'd even get used to him in the end and not feel the need to completely fix their attention on his well-formed body or his shining hide. He would, Naedreth suspected, miss the attention a little bit.

Well, Veyes was still asleep, there was nothing he could do for the lad so he might as well have some fun! L'thor pushed his way through the crowds and managed to claim a cup of wine for himself. Right! He had a few bets to collect on now, and a few to pay up on as well. He had broken almost exactly even on this hatching, and while that wasn't ideal, it was better than making a loss. Moments later however, the rider caught sight of something - someone - that made him grin, forget bets, and find a spot to ditch his cup.

"Merya!" L'thor called, grinning hugely and striding towards the slight girl. "Congratulations! Oh!" he spotted Conomor, who would now be called something other than Conomor, and gave the lad a smile and a nod. "Congratulations to you too!" Even if he had Impressed a bronze, he seemed like a decent enough young man. Maybe he wouldn't let the shiny hide go to his head. Stranger things had happened, albeit not many!

Oh Faranth… someone was hugging E’si. It wasn’t much of a hug, but he had exploded from less contact before. Very, very casually, Mal glanced around, wondering if there was a decent escape route that would take him out of blast radius. Sure, a fallen Weyrlingmaster was important and all, but it wasn’t exactly a personal problem. An explosive Harper could easily be a very personal problem.

“Tell you what,” he murmured, partly to himself and partly to S’van. “If we flip over that table over there fast enough, I bet it could provide just enough shelter so we’d both die a horrible death, but at a slightly later time than everyone else.”

By now, Aeron discovered what everyone else had realized: that there were no treats. The treats were a lie.

"How about a drink instead? I can almost guarantee that E'si's impending explosion won't reach us from the wine table." Of course, S'van had no real intention of waiting around to see what happened. His self preservation instinct was strong-- though not as strong as his desire to try the wine sans klah. Unfortunately, his timely (or untimely, depending on one's opinion) decision coincided with a candidate's wobbly approach, wine glass in hand. S'van, who was paying more attention to the spectacle of E'si temper, became the proud owner of a wine soaked tunic.

"Shells!" he cried, coming to an abrupt stop as the wine began to seep through the tunic to his skin. He swiftly pulled it off, and shook it out, grimacing. "Of all the rotten luck!" It was a new tunic, after all. His Gather finery! No doubt it was now ruined. "Hey, watch where you're going next time," he called after the tipsy girl. Ridiculous. ... And giggling. Now giggling. Why was she giggling? "Mal, you all right?" Turning, the now shirtless weyrling quirked an eyebrow at his friend, oblivious to the sight that he made.

As it turned out, S’van’s bad luck was Mal’s good fortune. He learned two very important things at that moment. First of all, S’van looked far better without a shirt than he had any right to. Really, there ought to have been a law against that. S’van would break it anyway, so there was no harm there. And, secondly, the Brown Weyrling ought to have wine spilled on him far more often. While S’van was berating the clumsy Candidate, Mal just… stared. Staaaaared. Hey, he’d get what he could, alright? He turned many interesting shades, most of which could rival the wine that was now staining S’van’s very fine shirt. The only thing that got his attention away from this was an angry hiss from Aeron, who was still waiting on a treat.

Not totally, but he could at least pretend to be blushing from… uhh… something else. Yes! Something far away from here. Speaking of far away… “I think I need a drink of water,” Mal said quickly, backing away from the increasingly dangerous situation. “Because it’s a really hot night,” oh, bad choice of words there, “And I really think I need to cool down,” damn, another bad choice. “And I’m thirsty.”

Ok, so that last one worked out pretty well. Maybe Xeran could find an innuendo in that, but Mal couldn’t, which meant it was probably safe. Very, very carefully avoiding looking anyone in the eyes, Mal started to scurry away.

(Sorry for lateness OTL)

Turning back to Nandeli, Dorinelic couldn't help but chuckle and wink. Well...lets see if she could handle this! "Maybe I like to live a bit dangerously, and besides.." He gave her his best grin, the kind you'd not want your mother to see. "Who said there would be any talking involved?" Turning back he hoped it might jar her a little bit. He might not mean anything by it, but hey, if Wyer girls were anything like Hold girls, they'd enjoy a bit of a light flirting...At least he hoped Nandeli wouldn't clob him for it. Some girls did.

Well...Looking forward he noticed the outsteched hand and caught the last few snippits. N'tos. Didn't he also Impress?
Grabbing the outstretched hand, Dorinelic gripped it firmly. "My name is Dorinelic. Dorin if you like...I don't really care that much. So long as it gets my attention." Giving a final squeeze he watched N'tos's face. Most men might wince from his grip, would N'tos do the same? "And you Impressed didn't you? Congratulations."

Nandeli responded in turn by sticking her tongue out at him. If his idea of living dangerously was sleeping with queenriders then he was on the right track. He'd probably have the majority of the Weyr's bronzes collectively shunning him and or hunting him down for touching what was "theirs" by right. Still, if he really wanted to impress her, then he'd have to do something more than that. Anyone who made it out of F'sey and C'ren's weyr alive after a Flight received her utmost respect.

She tilted her head slightly to look up at the hand on her head, and then beamed up at N'tos. The hugger had returned! And he was also in one piece! Clearly E'si was head over heels for this one, or at the very least thought he would make a decent partner in the near future. You could count on greenriders to not kill those who they thought they might like to have later. "Oh my dear brownrider, he enjoyed it more than you know! The fact that you still have both your limbs and your head means that at the very least he finds your company pleasing. Do not give up hope just yet!"

And the brownrider laughed about the hug with E'si! This young man was meant for great things. The Nose could feel it! "No no, you don't have to bribe any names! Not from me anyways. It's a pleasure to meet you N'tos! I'm Nandeli! I'm surprised you haven't heard of me before."

N'tos returned the firm grip with one of his own, his expression never changing once, except to reveal another grin. He did like this guy's style though, definitely a man's man. "Thanks. Although I wish I could give you a good reason for remembering me." He replied, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. Unlike the others, like the couple of bronzes, or even that green that had injured some candidates, Asceth had been pretty quiet in the overall picture. Not that N'tos minded, he did prefer to be in the background somewhat, than in the spotlight.

Snapping out of his thoughts, He moved his gaze back smoothly to Nandeli, and Dorinelic. "Congratulations on impressing your queen. Admirable feat out there." That little queen was destined for good things, good things, Notos realized.

Gently petting Nandeli, his golden eyes flickering in amusement. "Oh, really?" He had to raise an eyebrow at Nandeli's deductions from his encounter with the explosive green rider. He didn't know what to make of this 'hope' thing, did she mean friends? That he could do! But if there was anything else to be said, it was that he preferred to stay in one piece. Of course, that didn't prevent him from doing a majority of things that he shouldn't. He would probably go to bother E'si again, given the chance to do so. It was just too much fun, too much fun.

His eyes flickered curiously at her comment, wondering if he should have heard of her. Through the grape-vine, then? Unfortunately, that he didn't listen to such things. "A mistake on my part." N'tos admitted freely, sliding her another glance. "I tend not to listen to rumors." Giving a bow to the gold-rider, he found it hard not to like Nandeli! Her personality was so engaging, it was difficult to dislike her. Aside from his intuition telling him that Nandeli was definitely something to be reckoned with.

"Anyways. Are you guys enjoying this gathering? If not, lemme know what I can do to perk it up." He winked at both Nandeli and Dorenelic, giving them a thumbs up.

"So long as I stay away from the wine I should remember the night's events." He smiled and rubbed his head. Now that was a can of worms! "But, I'll remember you. I'm good with faces. Have to be when your work can last over several days and you don't know who ordered what." he smiled a bit more at N'tos. What had he been before his life as a candidate? A wyerbrat? A holdbrat? A trader? An apprentice? None of it really seemed to fit with his image anymore, now, he clearly looked like he was a rider. Huh. How odd. Past didn't really matter at this point now did it? "However, it always helps to memorizes a name and face over a good cup of klah." The handshake also was a good sign. If he didn't back down, that meant he was probably interesting. Dorinelic liked interesting people.

He didn't miss Nandeli's little face making, dispite his attention being mostly on N'tos.
"Miss Nandeli, you scorn me? Truly, I do not think I can bear it." He laughed at his own words. Must have sounded like an old dimglow harper. "But you have to admit, your face does look like you got a mouth full of bad klah. Please, if I'm ever feeling down, make that face again, It'll defiantly cheer me right up." He couldn't help it. It was a bit funny to look at.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:30 pm

Oh what cheek! Did he kiss his mother with that mouth? Nandeli couldn't help but giggle at Dorin's words, idly wondering if he's already had a few sips of wine before she got to him. Perhaps he was just getting more and more comfortable with the Weyr environment. This was a good thing indeed. If he was this cheeky he was bound to cause quite a ruckus with some of the ladies in the lower caverns. And she would be very, very happy to spread those rumours around. "I'll keep that in mind Dorinelic, though I cannot believe you would be sad in such a place as this. Surely you will be able to locate a great many things to brighten your mood?" She couldn't help but waggle her eyebrows at him.

The Nose was quite pleased with all of this attention, even though it wouldn't be much good for drama later. But that would be no problem. She could always visit the kitchen staff later to see what they had picked up from this lovely little gathering. Surely somebody, somewhere was going something scandalous. It had yet to occur to her that as queenrider she might be the target of some gossip of her own.

"Thank you! And congratulations to you as well! Brown Asceth, right?" At times it was handy to have Impressed the Queen. She resisted the urge to say 'yeah really' to N'tos' response to her conclusion on him and E'si, however she settled for whispering, "He's a bit of a grouch sometimes, but I don't think you'll have any trouble with him. Somewhere underneath that shell is a squishy bit. Besides, he's fun to bug, isn't he?" Nandeli recognized a fellow grump tormentor when she saw one.

She was a little disappointed when he said that he didn't listen to rumours though. "Alas, poor N'tos, I do believe you should listen more carefully to the rumours! Especially since you are looking at their source." Nandeli beamed up at him. "They don't call me the Nose for nothing! Though I can't say I remember anything scandalous about you. You're very good at keeping out of trouble." At the mention of 'perking things up' she tilted her head. "Though I am enjoying myself I am very curious as to what you had in mind."

It had taken quite a while for the new bluerider to make his way to the post-hatching feast. He had entered shuffling behind the dark blue dragonet who had Impressed to him. The entire way U'ru was offering up the good things that awaited them with all the food and festivities. Atosith was making His very aware of his displeasure, but slowly shuffled along in front of his rider into the party nonetheless.

U'ruMine, I don't see why we have to go. Too many others. I just want to spend time with Mine alone. It will be too noisy. Too many eyes. They will look at me. I want us to go somewhere away. Atosith looked up hopefully to U'ru.

U'ru had been looking for a place to sit. He was feeling fine and wouldn't mind meandering through everyone to go congratulate the other new riders, but he imagined that his Atosith would feel a bit more comfortable if they were seated somewhere off in a corner or along the side. He wasn't too familiar with many of them, but he at least knew of them, or recognized their faces, and a few of their names. (Or by reputation, in some cases.) He smiled down to the dark blue between his feet as he paused, chuckling softly as he reached down to rub the youngster's eye ridges. "There is so much going on. I doubt everyone would be focused so intently on us. This is to celebrate those who Impressed, like us. Those who were lucky enough to have found their other half. I won't let folks stare. Think of the music and the tasty foods they have out. I just want to congratulate the others and maybe grab something to eat or drink. We shouldn't be too long. Okay?"

Young Atosith huffed and scanned the clusters of folks in the crowds, namely looking for those whom his clutchmates Impressed to.

Dorinelic's work reminded N'tos of his own smithing work, back when he was an apprentice. Idly, N'tos wondered if the other man was in the same, or similar profession. Either way, it was always good to associate yourself with different people and different crafts. One day, it might benefit him, after all.

He offered an easy grin, hearing his dragon's name mentioned so easily. He had to admit, he was mildly surprised, before he remembered the fact that the gold would have the information on all of her clutchmates and more. When it came to the topic of E'si, Notos replied with another glance towards the green rider, "He is." Provided that neither N'tos or Nandeli pushed him too far -- the comments he had heard could be true, could not be.

and ah! N'to's intuition hit the mark, realizing the penchant that the girl had. "Dear Nan." he began off, chuckling. "Some people don't appreciate prying, and being pried into. " Needless to say, N'tos had nothing worthy to pry into.. yet. He was planning to keep it that way. Nandeli was an enjoyable person, she really was! It was just the fact that your daily life was being discussed in every conversation, that N'tos didn't like very much. Rumors were unfounded facts after all, based on speculation.

"I'll make sure to keep out of your way for those rumors then." Vaguely, he wondered how far her network was. Far, and wide? If it wasn't now, it sure would be now.

The goldrider's inqusition broke his thoughts, he only gave her a teasing look. "Since you're enjoying the party, I'll leave that alone for now." N'tos ruffled Nandeli's hair, taking another surveying glance around him. The feast party had yet to start, but this gathering was off to a great start!

Oh, this did sound promising! Merya grinned broadly at C'mor. "Wonderful! Thanks ever-so - that'll probably save my silly self from getting into any more embarrassing misunder- "

"Merya!"

" -standings - hold up, is that..."

It was. Merya gave a little squeal of glee that sounded something like "L'thor!" - matched by an excited squeep from Beru - and raced across the intervening space to leap into the elder greenrider's arms. "L'thor! I did it! I really did it! And now we'll be greenriders together!" She kissed his cheek impulsively and clung to him, grinning like an idiot as Beru buzzed around his head a few times. For once, not a shred of the girlish display was feigned. She'd never been so happy in her life - so completely, innocently joyful. She wasn't thinking about the possible benefits of being a dragonrider. She wasn't thinking about the people she could influence, or the wealth she might come into. She was only thinking about the first real friend she'd ever had, and the darling little dragon who was even now gamboling clumsily over to join her, and that she got to keep them.

Mine! Who is this? Anidanth's mental voice cut into her blissful thoughts. Is he safe?

"He's very safe, love," Merya insisted without otherwise moving. "He's L'thor, and His is Green Raith, and they are both wonderful."

A green like me! The hatchling seemed almost about to get caught up in the excitement, but then she faltered. ...And you are sure that neither of them will hurt me?

Merya sighed happily, resting her head on L'thor's shoulder for a moment. "Absolutely sure," she said, and meant it.

Then...will you please tell him that I say hello, and to please not drop you?

Laughing, Merya did so. "This is my Anidanth, and she worries about me because she loves me. She says hello and please don't drop Mine."

Beru, realising that she wasn't going to get any more attention for the moment, zipped over to introduce herself to Gilden with a cheerful series of squeeps and a friendly thought.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 14, 2009 5:56 am

Ah, it was L'thor; he must have got Veyes down to the infirmary alright then, that was good. C'mor offered the older rider a smile and a nod, though he was probably too preoccupied with Merya to notice just yet he still felt he ought to be polite even if he wasn't quite sure he liked or trusted the man.

"Raith is a good dragon," Naedreth put in. "She would not have chosen an unworthy rider Mine!"

...Well of course not. He had no doubt that L'thor was an essentially good person, but that didn't make him an honest or honorable person. The man was a bit of a viper really, all sharp tongue and acid comments. Sly and sneaky, and proud of it.

Gilden chirred happily as Beru approached, and then gave another squeak as three males approached them. They were, of course, River, Rust, and Dusk trailing lazily behind. The blues greeted Beru and Gilden with squeaks, and Rust said hello with a cheerful but slightly shy thought; there were a lot of people here tonight!

L'thor grinned; though he was hardly a muscular man he had no trouble holding the slight girl's weight. "Have no fear young green, I shall take great care of her!" He had no real right to be proud of her, but he was! All he'd really done was stumble upon her, and that had been Raith really in any case, but he still felt slightly possessive towards her, just as he did toward Veyes and Ren, and to a degree Allende. They had been his candidates, and now Merya was his weyrling; he planned to see to it that she excelled at everything she was asked to do.

"Your Anidanth is quite beautiful," he added with a grin, "and Naedreth is extremely handsome... Uhm... the rider formerly known as Conomor." He was quite handsome; not as good as a brown or blue would be, but not as crass and showy as many of his kind were. Both of the bronzes from this clutch were quite good looking actually. Not a patch on any of the greens of course, but that couldn't be expected of any dragon.

"Graceful and gorgeous, we are the loveliest!" Raith said privately to her rider. Then; "Welcome Anidanth, I look forward to flying with you some day." They would have to take care of this new little sister, and of Hers. Raith felt a thought of assent from her rider, and rumbled happily up on her ledge, eyes swirling blue-green as she looked down on the feast.

"It's C'mor," said C'mor with a smile to the green rider, "and thank you. Of course, I think he's the handsomest dragon ever, but I'm heavily biased."

"Well I am very handsome," Naedreth commented to His. "I am sure I shall grow up to be even handsomer. It is not all looks though Mine! I am not the best because I am the prettiest, I shouldn't like people to look at me and think me great just for my lovely colour, pattern, and form!"

C'mor grinned; he really had got an egotistical one, hadn't he? "Of course Naedreth, you're the best because you're Naedreth, not because you're good looking."

The young bronze rumbled and nudged his rider's hand. "Well, exactly," he replied casually.

"Indeed I am," Zara responded with a slight nod to Ceanandin. "And I'll be the first to tell you that where you come from doesn't affect your chances one bit. I've seen Holders from a tiny cothold Impress their first time out, and weyrbrats stand for turns." Sure, it was 'common knowledge' that dragonrider blood made it more likely for a dragon to notice you, but she herself was proof of what such rumors were worth. How many more chances would she have had, if Fuxith hadn't seen fit to choose her?

But I did. You are Mine. Shifting from his vantage point, the blue peered in the direction of the festivities in an attempt to find His. I would not choose another.

Hmm. From the mouth of babes came wisdom?
