Wyatt was gasping as he ran. He felt only a second of victory until he realized what that victory meant. He had distracted the cat from his sisters, but now it was charging him. He faintly heard his parents behind him, then his mother yell. Nalani? He couldn't see his sister behind the cat as it quickly grew in his field of vision. Everyone seemed to be yelling, the cat was getting bigger, and he thought he saw one returning to help its packmate. So much was going on, how was he supposed to think straight? The cat was so fast... When it leapt, Wyatt finally saw Nalani running toward them. WHAT?! He hesitated, distracted, and the hungry feline took its opening. It was only accidental that Wyatt's horn stabbed into the pouncing predator's leg. He turned his head when he saw something block the sky, rigid body allowing his small horn to pierce. He heard it howl before feeling something sharp slice into his side as he was shoved to the ground.
(( yay, I got to use a bit of the rp I won him with! XD ))

An enranged growl split the air. Catching the cat by the back of the neck, Brajan ripped the bloodied and furry mass away from his son, flinging it violently with a jerk of his neck. Howling, it bounced in the grass, skidding to a halt. The stallion hovered just above the colt, eyes gleaming in the light. He stamped a hoof. A warning and a challenge. Had he been alone, he would have gone after it. But he had his family to protect, and the other pair of cats were regrouping.

(Yay for RP contest prompt! XD lol.)
The filly quickly skid to a halt beside her brother ad underneath her father, worry filling her face. "Wyatt! Wyatt, are you ok?!?" she asked, gently nudging her brother. Nalani hated to see him injured like this.
Since Brajan was guarding the other two, Natsuhi ran over to Faolan to guard her from the regrouping cats. Had it just been her and her mate, taking care of the cats wouldn't have been as much of an issue. However, since there were foals to protect, the cats seemed to be taking advantage and trying to split them up. They must have been desperate for a meal. "Stay back!" the mare warned, a dangerous tone in her voice. Her glowing eyes cast a deadly glare upon the felines, seeming to intensify with her determination. "You will not be feasting upon any of us here."

Wyatt groaned, though clenched his teeth in an attempt to pinch it off. He wanted to smile at Nalani, to say he was okay, but his side burned fiercly. Instead he rubbed his head against her to comfort both of them. He was faintly aware of Brajan standing over them. "Is.. how are.. Foalan? Mom?" He gasped through, trying to find out how his mother and his sister were.
The cat that had been thrown growled softly, just barely able to pick itself up and limp away. The other two (I think there are just two more...?) glared at the adults. They had seperated the prey as planned, but now they were down a mate... Plus, the bigger kirinae still seemed in moods to fight. They could smell the youngling's blood, so tempting. They faced off with the adults a little longer, hoping for another chance to get a meal...

"Natsuhi, Faolan! Come here!." Brajan's voice rang out easily over the grass, cutting the air. If they wanted to remain, he'd give them a fight. But for now he remained, eyes blazing, a soft rumble in his throat. His attention turned only briefly to Nalani and Wyatt. They were okay. They were okay so far, at least.
At her father's call, Faolan lifted, her eyes turning up to her mother. Skirting close to her side, she started forward, wide glowing eyes on the cats. What were they waiting for? They were waiting for something, right?

Natsuhi gave a small nod and hurriedly began ushering her eldest along, not taking her eyes off of the cats. While it was best for them all to stick together, moving made them just a bit more vulnerable to attack.
"They look ok," Nalani replied, still worried for her brother. "They're heading over right now." The filly curled up against her brother's uninjured side while looking around at the three predators. Why wouldn't they just give up and run away already?

Wyatt nodded, taking comfort in knowing the others were okay, and that Nalani was now sitting next to him. Had he been right in what he'd done? He yearned to ask his father, but was feeling sleepy even through the pain. He lay his head down, waiting for his mother to come. He hoped father wouldn't be upset with him. He'd had to do something for the girls! Right?
The cats growled deep in their throats. With the adults together, they probably would not be able to reach the younglings. At least, not with only two of them. Frusterated, they turned and stalked after their more wounded mate to search for easier prey.

Brajan's narrowed eyes remained on the predators, never waivering. As Faolan and Natsuhi neared, he stepped to the side, allowing the mare better access to their son. It took all he had to remain, not to charge the pair. To reek bloody vengeance. He stared a long moment, then turned his attention to Wyatt, nudging his son's cheek gently, attention flicking helplessly to his mate.
Faolan ducked low, skirting near Wyatt's side, tiny body low to the ground. "Is he okay?" Her voice came strained, weak and afraid. They were so small, had been so helpless against the big cats.

Once she was certain that the felines had departed, Natsuhi lowered her head down to Wyatt's level to check him over. He was indeed wounded, but it didn't look to be fatal at least. Ever so gently she used her tongue to clean the area, not wanting it to become infected. "Wyatt, dear, how are you feeling?" She meant other than the obvious pain from the injury, although her wording wasn't quite as clear. It would be best to get him back to their sleeping quarters if they could. "Do you think you can walk?"
Nalani watched helplessly along with her father and her sister. It pained her to see her little brother hurt like this. "Thank you, Wyatt," she said softly, just barely above a whisper. "... You saved us." In her mind she determined to herself to somehow work on growing up quickly so that her brother would never again be hurt for their sakes.

Wyatt merred softly, smelling his father's scent along with something else. The cat blood. Then he realized he could smell it on himself as well, and it made his stomch turn. "Ow." He said, which was all he could manage to answer his mother's question. Walk? He blinked a little, lifting his head to try standing. He clenched his teeth. Be strong! He got to his hooves, but his legs felt weak and he wobbled with each step. He looked up at his parents, flicking his tail silently. Where was he walk- er, wobbling to? In a delayed reaction, his brain registered Nalani's words. Taking a deep breath he tottered over to her and started licking her cheek. He was starting to feel better now that the excitement was gone, though his side continued to burn. Having never known such wounds, it felt worse to him than it really was. He looked between Nalani and Foalan. "I- brother." Another deep breath. "My- job." Then he sighed and leaned against Natsuhi, feeling like he was about to fall asleep. "Nap- mama?"

Faolan uttered a soft sound of distress. "Wyatt..." She looked between her parents, panic-stricken. Was he okay? He didn't look okay. Pushing herself up, she moved to his side, trying to press up against him and steady him, but it wasn't working. He was so shaky. She sniffled, terrified and helpless.
"You did well, Wyatt." Lowering his massive head, he licked his son's ears affectionately. "Sleep now. It won't hurt as much when you sleep." The stallion's gaze moved to his mate. "We'll bed down here for the evening. If you'd like to take the girls back, I'll stay. I don't know if it's a good idea to move him."

Natsuhi nodded in agreement with Brajan's suggestion. She doubted he would be able to make it back safely to the nest in this shape. "We can stay here the night. I'd rather not split us up right now." The mare lowered her head to give her son a soft and affectionate nuzzle. "You can rest now, my dear sweet child."
Taking the cue from their parent's conversation, Nalani began shuffling together leaves for Wyatt to lie on. "Faolan, help my make a bed," she whispered, trying to get her sister's attention. It was the least they could do, right?

Faolan looked at her sister with wide eyes. It took a moment for the request to sink in. Once it had, she nodded, joining in. She began yanking up leaves, depositing them near her brother. Was he really okay? He wasn't looking so good..

Wyatt felt a warmth different than the one on his side flow through him at his father's words. His tail flicked to show his pleasure. "Okay." He said, leaning even more against Natsuhi and closing his eyes. He saw the girls making a bed, but thought he might fall asleep before they got done. He tried to distract himself until they finished. "Dad? Why- cats so- mean?"

Brajan settled beside, nuzzling their son gently. "It's the way of things, Wyatt. If they're great enough in number, as those were-... well, to them, we're little more than a meal. It's simply how they are. And how we are."
Faolan looked to the males, then down to the leaves. So... the cats thought they were food? A tiny shiver ran through her. "Nalani.... I don't wanna get eaten..."
