"... A couple weeks.. a month, maybe. I can't remember. All of that time is a blur, really. The shock, the fear, the exhaustion... everything runs together."

Vanna looked Pierre straight in the eyes, tilting her head to one side and trilling, ruffling her feathers slightly.

"Do you feel... better, now? All those things- do you still feel them, or is this," Emelyn spread her arms out over the beautiful expanse of land- a panoramic view of the wonderful wild. "Starting to feel like home, yet?"

Lorelei smiled again, weakly, and looked at Emelyn, opening her mouth as if to speak. But she closed it again and went down to the water's edge, crouching and touching her fingertips to the flowing water, clean and clear. It was so... different. So much different from the poluted waters of the Port's city bay.

"... Yes. It's staring to feel like home," she said finally, quietly, the melody of the river nearly carrying her words away with it. "But there are still nights where I wake up panicked, hoping that those aren't hunt dogs following our trail, coming to steal me away again. Those moments are becoming farther and fewer in between, but they still happen.

"But... this place is the nicest I've ever known. I'm proud to call this caravan my home, and its inhabitants my family, of sorts. A better family than I ever had the chance to know."

"I'm so glad," Emelyn said, breathless with the happiness she always felt when people found their way to this blessed life. "I come from the south, myself. Quite far south. And this wasn't the life I expected to find. But it's a wonderful one." She breathed in the cool air, and let it out in a cool stream that flowed over the riverwaters.

Pierre, in the meantime... did something he'd not done in weeks- and certainly not for a pure, gentle reason: he laughed, tickled by the brush of Vanna's feathers against his palm.

"It's magical," she agreed.

Lorelei glanced up to Pierre and Vanna, watching as Vanna seemed to tap out a little song and dance on the boy's hand.

"They seem to be getting along," Lorelei said, pleasantly, straightening up.

"They certainly do," Emelyn said, surprised. "...He's not often like this with others. Particularly those that are younger with him. ...It seems like Vanna has a way with the boys already," Em said, laughing.

Lorelei blinked, then turned red at the thought. "Oh. Oh, lovely... Seems I'll have to keep an eye on her, then, when she gets older." She laughed, clambering up the bank again.

Vanna sung a little, turning around in a circle, then quickly walked up Pierre's arm, settling on his shoulder. She leaned 'round as far as she could go, staring Pierre in the eye. Then she chirped, fluttered up, and coasted over to Lorelei.

"I think that means she's ready to nap, back in the wagon," Lorelei confessed, holding out her hand as a perch.

Em nodded, brushing a white strand of hair behind her ear. "Well, it was wonderful to spend some time with you. Really lovely. And Pierre, what do you say to Ms. Lorelei?"

Pierre skipped what would have been his normal reaction, and instead gave the woman a small smile, pointing to the bird with an outstretched claw. "Can I come over sometime and play with Vanna?"

Lorelei laughed, walking backwards towards Clair. "Yes, I think that would be wonderful," she said, nodding. Vanna chirped and... waved a wing at Pierre?

And then the two were gone, back into the wagon.

Lor set Vanna down in her small make-shift nest of twigs and cloth and an angel doll and reached for her journal. Time to make an entry... and maybe put down in ink a little bit more of her story.

Merce nodded her head to the man, and watched him lead away his duckling-like daughter. As they traipsed off, one of the birds in the cage let out a soft whistling phrase.

"Dark child. Dark bird. Like a weed- so does the bird grow..."

Response and such to follow.

Voltaire stepped out of his wagon dusting off his hands a bit surveying the look of it for a moment before glancing off to the side where Annjette sat playing.

The swan-girl looked quite sad. Though no matter what Voltaire tried to tell her it didn't seem to make things 'better' for her.

He shook his head with a small sigh and went over to 'Jette and knelt beside her, "Chin-up. She is only going into her own wagon, Duckling. She isn't going away. I am sure her and Vanna will still visit."

Annjette let out a small 'hurrmph and turned her back to him. Voltaire stood up and sighed flapping his arms against his side. Lorelei would probably be best to speak with the duckling. Promises are best coming from the ones that may need to make them.

Vanna was the first to emerge from Clair, followed shortly by Lorelei, her arms full of her few belongings. The harp, the doll, and the journal sat atop a bed of skirts, gifts from other caravan members. She smiled at Annjette, making her way over to the girl.

"Annjette, why the sad face?" she asked. Vanna flew over, twittering happily and landing on Annjette's shoulder. The bird played with one of Annjette's dark curls affectionately.

Voltaire nodded his head toward Lorelei as she came out and then watched as the three interacted.

Annjette squeaked and smiled a little at Vanna, but the smile didn't quite reach her eyes. She remained silent for a moment before she spoke, "You not living here anymore...Only girl in wagon." She wrinkled her nose.

"What if I never see you or Vanna again?" It was irrational to think this, but it was perfectly rational to the child who only could feel the pang of the loss of two people in a wagon that she had called her home.

"I'll make sure my wagon is right by yours while we're on the road, okay?" Vanna twittered in agreement with her mother. "And Vanna can spend the days with you, if you'd like! I'm sure she wouldn't mind."

Lorelei smiled, kneeling by the girl. "And I promise to come and visit whenever you ask me to. And you can come over whenever you want to, as well! In fact, if you want to stay the night at some point, it will be perfectly all right with me as long as it's okay with Voltaire." She nodded, then held out her hand. "I promise."

She considered what Lorelei said as Vanna twittered along as if agreeing. Annjette reluctantly nodded after a bit, "'Right," She spoke softly and somewhat reluctantly. The swan girl then reached up and placed her own hand in Lorelei's.

"You promised," Annjette said after a moment as if to seal the deal in her own little way.

Voltaire crossed his arms over his chest and smiled a bit. Seperation was never easy for a young one, "We all settled out then, 'Jette?"
