Kimi glanced up at Trace and motioned for him to sit on her lap. "This is DJ, He'll be keyboarding for us tonight." She glanced over at DJ and nodded. "DJ, this is Trace, he's a very talented guitarist." Kimi never really liked introducing people, but it was something she had to do. She hated having to sum up a person's life into one or two sentences just so that someone else could internally judge them for what she had said. "We’ve got to get going soon; I think Tess needs a nap before tonight." She said concerned about the girl in her car. When Tess came in Kimi smile and winked at her. "Welcome in sweetie" She said softly.

I declined Kimi's request for me to sit on her lap. I was a perfectly grown man who needed not to be placed on the lap of a mother-like figure...though it was comfy. God what was I thinking. I chuckled to myself and nodded to DJ. I glanced over to Tess and handed her the drink I got for her. She smiled a little in thanks, which I had assumed was the only communication she would give to me before we talked about the matter properly. "So, how long have you been playing the boards?" I asked Marcus.

Marcus watched suspiciously as the newcomers arrived, not immediately trusting them. He was suspicious by nature. Marcus quickly discarded the look and shook the one girl's hand, and looked at the guy. He noticed Kimi's offer, and was struck with a pang of envy. What he wouldn't give to be able to touch her.... Marcus discarded the thought, glad that his face turned to a stony disposition that refused to move. He didn't want jealousy written on his face. Marcus looked at the guy, Trace, and began thinking about his question. Just how long had he been playing the keyboards? "Oh. Jesus... since... man... well, actually playing and not dicking around on it, that would have to be since I was eight. Just messing around, since I can remember. Sometimes I wonder if I was found with a keyboard."

Kimi nodded, "That's a long time." She said and rolled her shoulders. "Now that five years longer than I've played bass." She leaned onto the table slightly and looked back over at Tess, Hey Tess; if I get a brownie will you share it with me?" She knew it would be a lot easier to say they were sharing it and make the girl feel less guilty too, Even though it was well known that Kimi did not eat sweets. She stood and brushed off her skirt before walking over to the counter and purchasing a dark brown chocolaty expensive looking square of goodness that came sprinkled with powdered sugar. Then she carried it back to the table and placed it in fount of Tess. “Look’s good.” She make a yum-yum sound and took a bite licking her lips afterwards to get the chocolate off of them.

(I'm sorry it took me so long to post back. I've been overwhelmed with homework)
I moved over so Kimi could place the brownie on the table. The scent was even sweeter up close. I picked up one of the small forks made specially for such a treat and scooped off a small piece that had each of the contents of the dessert. "Thank you," I spoke to Kimi and consumed the minuet piece. A smile formed against my cheeks as I took another scoop. "Any ideas on opening songs for tonight?"

"Flightless Bird, American Mouth?" it was one of their less bad a** songs but it was her favorite to hear sung by Tess, she had the perfect voice for it. "Maybe, I'm no good at mix order though, It's just the best thing we've got in my eyes." She chuckled and took a sip from the glass of water she had gotten for herself. "Or maybe, take a bow?" She licked the chocolate off her thumb and bit her nail. "But sweetie it's really up to you." Kimi could never chose the right thing to get a crowd pumped she just liked to hear the music herself, the crowd was not any matter of her’s.

"I was thinking more along the lines of something soft, but switch up the chords and throw in some guitar solo's so it's bad a**." I took another bite. "Maybe, Hallelujah? I don't think anyone's ever tried that before." My eyes glided towards Trace, then Marcus. "Instead of using an acoustic we can use an electric with some distortion added in. I think it'd sound pretty cool." I awaited a reply before speaking more of it.
"Sounds neat. Definitely not something I've heard before," I added, taking the last sip of my coffee before stepping away to get another.

((sorry i haven't posted in a while!! standardized testing will be the death of me...but i'm baaack! smile )) We were back in the room, sitting around while I helped her unpack her things. My phone had vibrated a while ago, a frustration that usually lead me to throw it wherever I saw fit, but instead caused me to simply stuff it farther in my pocket while I showed the peculiar girl around campus. I finally opened it, revealing one new message from Tess and three missed calls from an oddly familiar looking number. I tried to open the message, only to realize that the "ok" and "delete" buttons looked horribly similar. "Damn," I murmured as the little virtual trash can popped up on the screen momentarily, then went back to an overview of my inbox. I sighed and started a new text to Tess. "didn't get that last text. phone's being evil. where r u?? i think we have to talk" I snapped it shut and got back to pulling the miscellaneous contents from the luggage bag.

I felt the vibration of my phone go off with a few soft jingle sounds that followed quickly. I glanced over the text and replied.
"That's what I basically said. We're at a coffee shop in the middle of nowhere Be back soon...i think. & brace yourself."
I turned my attention to Kimi. "When are we gonna leave?" I didn't like being out in public much. The people and their gross body odors disgusted me the more I was around them; even the sweetest perfume sent my stomach into tumbles. Now that the brownie was gone, it's scent was replaced with that of way-too-much Axe cologne worn by a man in his mid-thirties who wished he was young enough to pull it off. He obviously failed. I pinched my nose closed and coughed to expel it from my lungs it held captive.

I nearly broke the phone opening it. My fingers tapped the keys yet again. "hmm... 1. coffee shop in the middle of nowhere 2. lack of smiley emoticons 3. brace myself? either you're planning to elope with some hobo Kimi picked up on the street in order to comfort you or you just wanna be a pain in the a**. hmm..." I smirked and clicked send, murmuring something about the stupid full keypad on my phone, something that would take a great amount of will power to adapt to. "What is this?" I teased holding up a pair of skimpy undergarments as if they were a nuclear explosive that simply had to be held at a great distance from my face.
"Shut up," I muttered, snatching them from his grasp.
"Didn't think you would be the type to sport the secret," I lifted my eyebrows.
"The secret?" I mused.
"Victoria's Secret,," I looked down for a moment, feeling slightly foolish, having known about something of this criteria better than the female next to me.
"Oh,"
"What is Victoria's Secret?" I feigned curiosity toward the word play.
"That she is a dude." I giggled slightly under my breath and stuffed the fabric back in my bag, to be removed only when the time came that there were no arrogant guys in the room...it was going to be a while, I presumed.

I hadn't bothered to put my phone away, knowing his reply would only come seconds later.
" First off, I'm not a pain in the a** Secondly, talking this much in texts is pitiful I'm gonna call you."
I excused myself from the table, not waiting for Kimi's reply; assuming she'd want to stay longer. The bathroom was vacant and with a turn of the lock I'd have some privacy. My fingers ran across the buttons and a ring was soon heard through the speaker phone application,

"One sec'," I flashed a smile at the girl and leaped from the floor into the hallway. I smacked the green answer key and held the phone to my ear. "Heeeello?"
"Gabe?" I looked up at the bed where he was practically passed out. I needed somebody to talk to, but they were all off gallivanting this way and that, leaving me feeling as if I had strolled into the ladies room half-way through the movie and came back out unaware of what in the world was going on. My last resort was either going to be a man I'd never known (but of whom I had found to be very kind in the past hour) or the teddy bear I had stowed away in a compartment beyond the touch of anyone without a full knowledge of decoding a Chinese puzzle lock. I wondered how much a plane ticket to Australia would be during off-season.

His voice echoed as it radiated from the speaker. I turned down the volume slightly and let myself lean against the wall, moving downwards into a sitting position. "Hey," my voice was soft so anyone outside couldn't hear. "Sorry if I'm bothering you. It's just easier to talk than to type everything that comes to mind." The cold tile floor resulted in an outbreak of goosebumps that rippled over my thinly coated self; I shivered. "What are you up to?" I figured I might as well keep it simple, for now at least.

"Helping what's-her-name unpack. Oh man you should see some of the stuff this girl has got in those bags! I'm gettin' ready to pull a continent out it is insane," I chuckled to myself a little. "It's no bother," I added quickly, "I know what you mean. Hey do you think you could get back here...like, soon? I really think we should talk in person I just...I don't know." Chills of regret naughtily sprinted in laps up and down my spine. If I hadn't said anything last night, she would have been fine right now. I shook my head and kept my mouth shut, for fear that the next time I let it run would ask for her hand in marriage. For some reason I felt like things were coming apart after those three words. Everybody was tense, with the exception of the new girl who was probably oblivious to the happenings that occurred as we spoke, and I could tell that it was my doing. Frayed ends in a band usually lead to one thing, the one thing we'd avoided since day one.

"Once Kimi says we can leave, from there it'll probably take a half hour or so. I wasn't really paying attention in the car. And yeah, I was hoping to talk in person. Over the phone isn't very personal so it wouldn't do any good. Though, I did want to say thanks for staying with me last night before you disappeared this morning." I let my eyes close, replaying the previous night over and over through my mind, in an attempt to make sense of it all. Yet, it remained as blurred and opaque as it was beforehand. Still, I wasn't sure if his confession was a good thing or not; it could make the band, or break it in the long run. I prayed it wouldn't.
