lol For that place, as long as your element didn't kill you it didn't really matter what species you were. Well never mind. We cleared things up, though personally I would have preferred to save my 4th character slot for a character I actually wanted to make. sweatdrop

Hello Everyone! I'm very new to Gaia as well as new to RPing. So, I was hoping by posting my character ideas here you could help me improve and excel. Here is one character that I've been thinking about quite a bit these past few weeks. I would greatly appreciate some type of opinion on her.
Name: Catori Gender: Female Age: 22 years
Ability: Manipulates any type of energy, mostly through touch, but some with her mind. For example, she can touch water and make it freeze or boiling hot. If there is a storm she can manipulate the electrical energy from it with her mind. However, there are some problems with her abilities, such as: she is somewhat not in control especially when she is feeling powerful emotions (rage or depression). Also, her powers are not from birth but slowly progressed from the start of puberty. She herself must learn and develop in order to wield these powers effectively.
Bio: Catori has pale skin, hazel eyes and dark brown hair. Her eyes are large and surrounded by long, full eyelashes. She is shy but very blunt, which can put people off when she is in social settings. She has a dark past with many secrets (including causing the death of her parents by uncontrollable abilities). Therefore, she is orphaned and spends most of her time alone because she fears that she will hurt the people she loves.
Obviously, this is not very in depth but I would love some critiques to strengthen and lengthen this character. So, please tell me what you think! heart

Well, it isn't too bad. For a first go, it's a pretty good attempt. Be careful of giving someone the powers to control any of anything. I told an earlier poster that it's just not fun enough if you give someone control over all the elements. It's better to pick some abilities. Yes you have weaknesses, and people will exploit them. But, good fellow RPers will find a way to make anyone shine for a bit. For example if you have a rogue who's good at solving puzzles, it isn't fair to the fighter or the mage, to always have puzzles for the rogue. You did say energy, not elements. So you're already doing pretty good. Just develop more details about her, and you got it good.

Ten Tails Sorry I wasn't more help, mate Eh, no worries. My options were actually much more limited than I anticipated. sweatdrop Still I managed to string together my ten year old not even a day year old prince. I don't know what that girl uses, but it isn't logic. rofl

Alright, prehaps you can help me make a flimsy idea into a strong one...
I am intending to make a half-golem character. One to fit into a steampunk setting based on the Terra De Ange books. I personally am not a fan of the lackluster presentation of the setting, nor the books themselves, but hey, some friends are playing and they might make it enjoyable.
So yes, half-golem. A half-golem that makes various steampunk devices, most notably the steampunk lightsabers called Electro-blades that another character of mine in the RP uses.
What should I make his limbs out of, and is this a good idea?

You've stumped me. I barely even know what steampunk is. I've never read the books you're mentioning. And I work in a book store, so apparently I should at least have heard of those books.

What should I make his limbs out of, and is this a good idea? A golem is classified as a creature created from some sort of earth. Whether this be metal, mud, rock, or (the more common one) clay. They are often made to follow the bidding of a sorcerer. In other words, golems are created from some sort of natural material, whether they be blood and bone, clay and rock, mud and metal, etc, etc. Which kinda makes me wonder exactly how you got a HALF-golem considering I'm assuming some sort of reproduction had to take place. xD;; I'd suggest taking a look into that. As it stands though, your golem is created in a world of steampunk, which often runs around a few key themes. These themes are: steam, clockwork, occasionally alchemy, and coal. If you are to make a character who "forges" weapons, so to speak, I wouldn't use brittle materials. Certainly not coal, which will catch fire. x] This also rules out clay, mud, and some forms of rock. Exactly how much of the golem is "human" considering you stated he was a half-golem? But questions aside, I would suggest a mixture of clockwork, and metal. It's durable, it's functional, and it has all those nifty moving joints. So robotic arms; but better. OH! Well, to explain where I got Half-Golem...It's a monster template from a Dungeons and Dragons sourcebook, which I am adapting to the rulesets and balance of freeform. I will do my best to quote it here. half-golem Half-Golems are the result of good intentioned actions taken too far. While the application of a poultice infused with curative herbs or the casting of a spell can save the life of a injured or diseased person, only powerful magic can replace a missing limb. Such magic is often beyond the reach of an ordinary person who might work in a quarry or a mill, or be scything a field of grain. Especially when they suffer the loss of multiple limbs. Arcane artisans have applied their knowledge of golem construction to attempt to restore such people to wholeness. While initial results are promising, there is a serious limitation to the effectiveness of the technique - many people who received one of more limbs where unable to withstand the trauma of the procedure and became deranged and, earnestly, evil as a result. Now, my character survives the trauma, but he is twisted by it. He's not evil, but he's taken a step in the right direction, becoming hot-blooded, furious, and violent. He has no conscience about the loss of life as he once did, since because of his death and return to life experience, he's become a nihilist. Also to answer your question, he's been heavily reconstructed. His whole right leg is golem parts, as his half of his left. Both arms are replaced, as is half the chest including one lung and the heart. His spine is completely golem parts, and one of his kidneys failed in the reconstruction and had to be replaced. And I agree, clockworks made of some hard metal would be best, prehaps include the removal of more redundant organs to place a steam generator into his body, for steamwork robotics. But are hard metal clockworks even effective?

I think they would be effective. They would have the ability to add joints/hidden weapons, so they would be efficient. I think the only drawback is that a few of the smaller pieces might prove delicate, and therefore a little easy to snap. There's also the matter of exactly HOW he makes them move. Some sort of magic?
Also, a quick question: How did he survive if he lost his lung and his heart? I would assume they're fairly integral pieces of his biological makeup. xD Did he lose them DURING the accident, or DURING the procedure? I mean, a heart is delicate, even the smallest scratch on it would tear the membrane and put him in cardiac arrest. Never mind his lung. <.<;;

And yes, as I said, it was a dead and return to life experience, rather than a near death.
The character was dead for a total of 3-4.5 hours, if I follow the backstory in my head. So yes, though he did lose his heart in the process, and his lung in the accident, he was brought back to life by the magic of the procedure.
Hmm...Well, golems are animated by magic, it would just be a matter of causing gears and whatnots to sync magically to a bodies biometric rhythm. Alternatively, for a more realistic look, I could have it that there is a steampunk device inside his chest that uses the body's excess electrical impulses (The energy that would normally be used to move his original limbs) to power a small generator that takes lquids and coverts them into energy for his new bodyparts.
