I got the impression she was crying because what Jeia said only traumatized her further.
But I could be wrong.

Ok, so I am in desperate need of some help, you guys.
I have a friend who lives all the way in Alaska. Never met her personally, but I've know her for about three years now, so she's very dear to me.
Now, from what I hear from her every day, her mother abuses her. Mostly emotionally, always screaming at her for stupid things, telling her she's not worth anything and the world would be better if she were dead. But I think she's hit my friend a few times too.
The thing is, no one else believes her, because apparently the mom only does it when no one's around. So the sister thinks she's crazy, and the dad heads out the door the moment the mom starts yelling. I think he hates conflict, and even though my friend has told him repeatedly about what goes on, he either doesn't do anything about it or doesn't believe her.
I don't know what to do. She takes everything the woman says to heart, and when it happens she talks like she's suicidal. I'm really scared. It breaks my heart to see her like this. I've been trying to encourage her to hang in there, let her know I'm here to support her and I'm her shoulder to cry on or a person to rant to if she needs it. But I'm really and truly afraid that it's not enough and that she's going to do something drastic, and I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines.
So is there anything more that I can do, even though she lives on the other side of the country?

I'm sorry to say it, Usa, but unless you want to go all the way to Alaska, you're stuck on the sidelines.
I would, however, strongly advise you to strongly advise her to go to the local police. Doesn't matter if they believe her or not, they have to investigate. And if she does hit your friend, there will be marks. They'll be able to tell if she's lying or not - I'm not saying she is, I'm saying they'll be able to prove something's wrong. Alex's dad is a cop and he says every police officer in the US is obligated to offer guidance and help for something like this, especially in the case of a minor.
Scarily enough, this sounds horribly familiar to me.

As a survivor of abuse I understand what your friend is going through. It took them only a few weeks to get what theyneeded.I went through therapy & extra counseling at school. It didnt help paul( father person) that I bruise easily I lived in north carolina for a time which didn't help at all with it either. the thing of the matter is,is that your friend needs to go to the local police or a neighbor/friend.
