Terisa's nerves hadn't settled even after the hatching had started. Probably for reasons all the way from the first dragonet maiming a girl to the fact that there were a number of eggs already hatched. Biting her lip, the shy girl stepped sidewise to avoid getting stepped on by one of the newly matched pairs. Slowly but surely, the girl was getting pushed to the back of the crowd of female candidates. Since pushy just wasn't in her nature, Terisa tried to just stay out of people's, and dragonets', way. She was trying her best to also keep in sight of the hatching though, since it really was a beautiful experience, and, if this whole dragonrider thing didn't work out, she definitely hoped to get a few good weavings out of the scenes she was seeing.

At Inannath's Hatching, the Nile Crocodile egg suddenly began to twitch violently, suddenly exploding into a thousand shards. The little blue within it had his wings fully spread, his eyes wide and swirling, a prodigious birth. He zeroed in on the world around him, standing strong and proud, determined to find his mine.

But the first thing that the blue saw was bright lime green, eye searing to most but absolutely gorgeous to the little dragonet. Of course, he already knew who His was by now and walked towards the boys, never taking his eyes off of Inannath. She was so beautiful! How could he ever tear his gaze away from that lovely hide, that regal brow? Inannath was perfect and he could not stand it. He trembled as he finally turned his regard to the one other thing that he would focus intensely on in his life, his other half, his One, his Loraket.

Mine, do you see that beautiful creature? Can we go speak to Her? I'm a little hungry, but that can wait... just look at her, 'mine! Oh... my name is Rangith, by the way.

The little pink egg hatched and Greloren grinned. He'd heard some saying it would hold a brown, but he'd said green... and he was right. And ow that color hurt his eyes! She was a very bright green... And she knew exactly who Hers was and quickly made sure everyone else knew it as well.

Riordan watched the rather vibrant green rush across the sands to Hers. It was amusing to watch these hatchlings. Even freshly hatched, they had such differing personalities. And some seemed to know instantly who was Theirs and others took a bit longer. The boy wondered why it was like that.

Then a blue hatched and the boys watched as he headed towards the males... but he didn't take long to spot one of the boys and Impress. Greloren chuckled a bit. He'd guessed that one to be blue... and had been hoping it would hatch, no matter what others had said.

Riordan sighed a bit. He'd touched that egg... and he'd been hoping that one of the eggs he'd touched would hatch a little dragon just for him...

Lynna felt herself murmur happily "It hatched!" And it was a blue! Not what she expected, but she was outrageously happy that the spotty egg had overcome expectations and had hatched into a remarkable boy!

At least the eggs were hatching more frequently now. It gave Ennrik something to focus on and Mal something to talk about. Anything for a little distraction. The chatter and oohs and ahhs went up immensely as a Bronze slowly entered the world with a mewl. Now that was absolutely adorable! Mal snerked a little at the idea of such a powerful creature making such pathetic noises, but… damn. It was so cute! Especially when the Golden Queen nudged her son towards the boys. “Yeah. A Bronze just hatched. Can you hear him, Ennrik? Listen to that. It’s a nice sound, don’t you think?” He decided not to tell his friend that the Bronze had briefly stopped to glance at the Harper apprentice. That would surely just set off his fright more.

Besides, the Bronze had pushed off quickly enough. “He needed some encouragement, actually. His mother had to poke him towards the boys. And he’s got stripes. Lots of them. Oh! Just Impressed to… to… what’s his name. You know, that Lord Holder’s nephew or whatever he is.”

“Oh. The Blue finally Impressed to Raena. She’s a Healer apprentice, I think. And a few more Greens just hatched as well.” Mal was perfectly fine with reporting the events of the Hatching; he was pretty certain that talking was somewhat forbidden for the Candidates, but since when had he followed rules? They were really more like guidelines anyway. “The bumpy egg hatched. You know, the one that people said was a dead-egg? Just hatched into a beautiful little Blue.”

Another blue and green, one was blindingly bright, the other rather delightful in his darker colors...Gar watched both, and had to crack a smile at how the blue watched the green. She certainly was...something. Alas, neither were his, but he smiled at Loraket when he impressed. The blue really was very lovely, if a bit silly looking with one dot of a different color there on his headknob! So far all that had hatched had impressed, a good sign. A lot of greens and blues too, possibly the only normal thing about the clutch so far.

Faranie eyes the bright green with interest. Such strange colors...was there something wrong with it? Obviously not, once it'd impressed, but she was still confused. Since when had marks like that been common? There was something very odd about this clutch, she decided, and like her brother made her way more to the front. She did this with shoves and a bit of yelling though, unlike the well mannered girl she was supposed to be pretending to be.

Ennrik had to concentrate much too hard to make sense of Mal's descriptions of the goings-on around them. Even with his eyes firmly shut, his head was spinning. He wouldn't be able to keep his feet much longer. Resigned to what would come next, he gave in to gravity and sank to his knees in the sand, fortunately too far along in his stage-fright to notice the scorching hot sand beneath his shins.

Resignedly might not be the appropriate term. The thoughts Ennrik directed toward himself were scathing. The sort of things which would end friendships if spoken aloud and to a friend. Possibly the sort of things which could get a person disowned by his family. Certainly his family would disown him if he directed his words toward them. Fortunately, he kept his mouth firmly shut. Partly to keep from saying anything unforgivable to Mal, and partly to keep himself from vomiting.

He'd made it a point to know the names of all the Candidates, and to try to find out what he could about them. Even if he didn't Impress, he had wanted to be able to remember everything about the experience. He wasn't a great composer, but he might be able to come up with something. When the next wave of nausea passed he answered, "Cilyme. His name's Cilyme."

As if cued by his thoughts, his empty stomach tried to rebel and his whole body shuddered with the effort of not throwing up. He was utterly miserable as he said, "I should be watching this. That's what Harpers do."

The momentary lull in the hatching was suddenly shattered as two eggs cracked simultaneously, both revealing greens. The green that had emerged from the Sable Antelope Egg only stuck around for a second, before diving headfirst back into the pile of eggshells that had formally been her home for the past few sevendays. She wasn't ready to face the world yet- it was too big, and it was too scary!

The Jackal Egg green had no such problems with facing the world. She almost strode out, as much was possible on newborn legs. Before she could face the Candidates, however, she tipped over the remains of the Sable Antelope Egg, expelling the green that had resided within.

With a squeak, the Sable Antelope Egg green dashed forward, running as fast as her wobbly legs would allow, nearly screaming. Her little cries were not that cute, but she was quite a pretty little girl, for all that her eyes whirled orange in alarm. She veered first towards the males, and then away, realizing that wasn't she wanted. Boys were scary! Instead, she dashed towards the females, before running smack dab into the legs of the one she had been looking for.

Instead of locking eyes and facing her newly bonded as the others had done, scared little green Ixtabth cowered behind Brynne, mind voice shaking as she did so. Ixtabth is scared. This world is scary. I'm going to die! Another Impression had been made, and it had been made first by the green people thought would never choose. The Jackal Egg was taking her time, however, striding towards the boys, waggling her tail in a manner that was almost seductive.

Two eggs shattered and two green appeared. Greloren frowned a bit. He'd guessed both of those to hold blues. Oh well... He chuckled as one green scared her sister forward towards them, then she suddenly veered towards the girls and Impressed.

Riordan felt sad for the little green who'd been scared. But she'd found Hers and would be soothed... so he turned his attention to the other green, who was making her way towards the boys and looked rather playful. The boy grinned, thinking she looked a bit silly... and rather cute.

Idly, Florian wondered if he should move towards the front of the pack of male candidates. Ghilani was gone now, off feeding his young brown, and Forian felt a feeling akin to loose ends. Technically, he should be just as anxious and eager as those around him, jostling for position and making his thoughts as attractive and inviting as possible for the young dragons. But Florian just couldn't bring himself to do it this time.

His eyes constantly roved over the milling candidates and the lower tiers of the spectators, pausing here and there to study a particular individual or group of individuals. Twice he paused to watched Mal and Ennrik, wondering if Healer attention should be drawn to the sickly looking one, but the other boy seemed to have the situation under supervision... if not control. Of the hatchlings, he had found himself almost detached from the events of their birth. Certainly he was happy for the new pairings, his friend in particular, but he was not watching the stumbling dragonets with the eyes of a candidate anymore.

He was a healer, and he studied them as such, noting unusual markings and behavioral patterns, neatly filing away his observations for later use. Certainly this clutch had it's strange ones, and he did feel a stirring of pride when the strangely patterned crocodile egg hatched a whole and healthy dragonet.

Hesendek watched as the two eggs split at once, revealing two greens that couldn't be more different. Before anything could really happen, the prouder of the two bumped her clutchmate out of her egg, sending the terrified green tearing off towards the females. The apprentice vintner watched with wide eyes; he didn't know hatchlings could move so fast! She made one v-turn and found Hers in a bit of a collision.

Hesendek whipped around. Now, where was that- Oh! There was Mo, right beside him! How long had she been there? The candidate cleared his throat sheepishly as he smiled at his friend, looking towards the green taking her time. Did she want him? Oh. Wait. Hesendek eyed Mo again. Er, wasn't she supposed to be standing with the girls? What if her dragon couldn't find her?

Maybe this green was for his friend?

What in the world?! Gamoira's brows furrowed when the green hatchling suddenly mauled a girl before making her choice. Was that supposed to happen? Dragons going after candidates they didn't like? Well, she did not like that one bit! Her expression now incredibly determined, the young woman stepped forward to stand slightly in front of Hesendek as the brown made his way into the sands. This one looked pissy too, and there was no way that he was going to take a chunk out of Hesendek. Not on her watch.

Each new dragonet was met with the same protective stance, the young woman unwilling to let any of them get close to her friend if they looked unpleasant. So far, the new ones seemed nice enough, but now that she had seen that green she was incredibly suspicious. Arms folded resolutely over her chest, she stood that much taller, hoping that there was something the slightest bit intimidating about her. If not, she was there, which meant they would have to take her out first if they wanted to get to her friend. Take that, nasty dragonets.

Things were happening much too fast for poor little Handra, who could only watch as dragons made their way through the candidates, some nosing at him but others avoiding him completely. Despite all his nervousness, he could not help but marvel at the different personalities that were coming out of each egg. The egg that he had visited last, the big hippo egg, ended up producing a brown dragonet, who found His without even the slightest look in Handra's direction. All for the better, really. He would have been absolutely terrified riding a dragon that big, not to mention the responsibility.

Handra tore his eyes off the hatching for a brief moment, scanning the stands in a futile attempt to look for F'sey. Was the rider even here? The former shepherd chewed on his lip nervously, before forcing himself to look back at the hatching. So many greens! And so many different patterns! It was amazing that so many different dragons could all be classified under the same colour. His eyes darted to the recently hatched Sable Antelope egg, eyes softening when he saw her cower. Poor thing. Looked like a little frightened lamb. He already felt sorry for her.

His attention was pulled away again as another green made her way towards the boys. Handra sucked in his breath, trying his best not to fidget. Be brave, little one, be brave.

Nandeli cringed when a very irritable green took out Astri. Ouch! That was going to sting later. That poor girl. She had really been hoping that one of girls she at least knew a bit about would Impress. At Elae's question she nodded slowly. "I should think so. The Healers are good, and it's not a serious wound. That green was so rough though!" It made her shiver. No matter how many times she had stood, seeing someone get mauled by a dragon always made one reconsider their current situation.

The young woman watched the rest of the Hatching in an unusual silence, however this was broken when Cil Impressed his bronze. Her face broke out into a wide grin and she waved merrily at him. Haha! Would you look at that? Little red-faced Cil had himself an adorable bronze! Who would have thought? Her glee only escalated when La Impressed a green. Atta girl! And that definitely had a say in that one's sexuality. Probably not as hardcore a lesbian as the rumours had said. She would have to rethink that one. And then Raena with a blue! My my, things were turning totally upside down!

Chuckling to herself, Nandeli relaxed her posture and watched as the Jackal Egg green made her ways towards the boys. That one definitely knew where she was going.

The Gorilla egg twitched ponderously then. A few harsh bumps from the dragonet's head and he'd cracked his nose free, and, kicking out his legs, sent the rest of the egg out of his way. The large brown that was revealed glanced at the candidates and turned to the boys, walking with great certainty up to the one he knew was His, a Weyrbrat that was nearly too old to Stand anymore. Impression was made as more noses broke out of their shells, and the pair left the sands for the brown's first meal.

The little scared green was cute, and was the second egg he had managed to predict correctly. There really wasn't anyway to know what was going to hatch out of any particular egg, and Dusen was suddenly glad that he had kept his predictions to himself. He would have been out quite a few marks had he have actually bet on the hatching.

He watched the other green, the jackal, wander around. Who would she chose?

“Cilyme. Right, that’s it. Well… I guess it isn’t it anymore.” Mal kept talking, completely oblivious to the dark thoughts and misery drifting around Ennrik’s brain. Well, maybe not completely oblivious; after knowing him for years, Mal knew full and well how depressed Ennrik could get. “Nah. As a Harper, it’s your job to listen. Sights aren’t so important. Remember Connrik? He was blind and still played better than anyone. Best Harper I ever knew.”

“Two more eggs hatched, by the way. Two gorgeous little Green girls. One of them was the egg you touched, Ennrik. You know, the one that almost had a splash like blood on it? But… ohh… one of the girls is hiding in her egg! It is absurdly adorable, like the little mewling Bronze.” He decided not to tell Ennrik that the other Green----the one from the egg the Harper himself had touched---was striding towards the boys.

“The scared Green is… well, you can hear her, can’t you? All of those squeaks and squalls of alarm? She just ran into the legs of some unfortunate lad before screeching at him and running away. But wait… wait… I think she just found her rider in one of the girls there.” That was nice.
