Gaunt was smiling brightly and warmly as he felt her sit a little closer to him. He was about to close the distance between them a little more when suddenly he saw Ian bolt toward Serenity, and he felt Prince on him as well.
"Yeah! I don't want to go, dad! You've been great so far! I coudln't hope for a better dad!" He whined up at Gaunt, tears beading at the corner of his eyes and threatening to spill over his face.
Gaunt blinked a few times as he heard the two pleading with them, then his eyes softened and he softly patted the Prince on the head. "Hey, its okay Prince. We're not going anywhere."
"Promise?" Pouted Prince, still face upturned toward Gaunt.
"Promise."

Serenity was a little confused as to what had brought this on, but she reached down and picked Ian up, hugging him tightly to her chest.
"Ian," she murmured soothingly, "calm down ... you're my son, I would never leave you ... I would never make you go away ..."
Ian looked up at Serenity, his pale lavender eyes filled with worried tears. "You promise?" he asked in a very small voice. "You'll always be my mom?"
Serenity laughed softly and hugged Ian again, nuzzling his cheek with hers. "For ever and for always," she smiled. "As long as I can."
She looked over at Gaunt, her eyes soft and somewhat disappointed. Not with the children - Ian was her life, and she would do anything for him, anything at all - but for the moment that had been lost for her and Gaunt. She was certain, however, that it would happen again ... eventually.

Gaunt smiles softly as he keeps Prince close to him, adjusting himself so he was sitting closer to Serenity. He looked down at the two and smiled warmly, thinking that the moment had passed. Hopefuly the kids were calmer now. "Alright, you two. Have you had enough or do you want to keep eating?" Of course, he and Serenity had been talking so much that they hardly had anything to eat at all. But there was time later, or they could pick at the food while Ian and Prince napped in the sun. Either way, it was fine.
Prince looked thoughtful, then he looked over at Ian. "Hey.. Ian?" He sniffed some, his nose runny since he was near-tears. "A.. Are you still hungry?"

Ian shook his head and rubbed his eyes. "I'm just sl-sl-sleepy," he yawned. "I think I'm ready for a sleep ..."
Serenity reached for her bag once more and without even searching pulled out the blanket that she always kept handy for Ian and his naps.
"Here," she murmured, laying him on the picnic blanket. "You just go right to sleep ... Gaunt and I will be here right beside you when you wake up again."
As she tucked Ian under the blanket, she looked over at Prince. "Do you want to sleep with him?" she asked in a quiet voice.

Prince nodded and he smiled as he crawled off of Gaunt and shuffled across the picnic blanket to lay himself next to Ian, hugging his new friend to them as they were covered in the blanket.
Gaunt chuckles and murmurs quietly as he watches the two drift off together. "They're so cute." He smiles warmly at Serenity.

Ian snuggled into Prince's shoulder and the next instant, he was asleep.
Serenity smiled back at Gaunt and moved to sit right beside him again.
"They're both really sweet," she murmured back to him. "It's funny to think that they're both already so worn out ... we've only been here an hour or so, after all. Not that I'm going to complain."
She giggled softly and stretched her legs a bit, then lay on her stomach and propped herself up on her elbows, facing Gaunt.

He smiles softly as he as he reaches down and starts to idly play with Serenity's hair. "Mmhmm. Well, they have been playing pretty hard. And there's nothing like a fully tummy to bring on the drowsiness." He smiles at her, remaining seated while she lay on her stomach, his fingers still gently playing with her hair. He tilts his head slightly as he looks down at her, then he smiles. "Well, is there anything else you'd like to know about me that you can think of?"

Serenity tilted her head thoughtfully at the question, not at all minding that Gaunt was playing with her hair.
"Weak spots?" she suggested, rolling onto her back and looking up at him, smiling mischievously. "I think it might be good to know what would best cheer you up if you're ever down."
Her necklace fell to one side of her neck, and she picked it up on one hand and fidgeted with it, moving the cartouche back and forth on the chain.

His hand was forcibly removed from her head when she rolled over. Instead, it gently rested on the middle of her stomach. He tilts his head as he grinned down at her, shaking his head slowly. "Weak spots, huh? I bet you would like to know them, but it's difficult for me to divulge the information when I don't get anything in return." He smirked playfully down at her, his fingers slowly moving against the fabric of her shirt.

Serenity blushed brightly and put one arm behind her head as a pillow, pulling up the bottom of her shirt just enough that the slightest bit of her stomach was showing, though she didn't notice it.
"And just what were you hoping to get in return?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with laughter.

Gaunt chuckles lightly as he kept his eyes on her face, admiring still how her eyes seemed to draw him into them. He pursed his lips slightly as he thought for a few moments, before he shrugged slowly. "Well, what are you offering?" He grinned lightly.

Serenity had to bite her lip to keep from laughing aloud. She had never had fun with anyone like this before - ever.
"I suppose that depends on the information," she challenged him. "Why don't you just tell me, and we'll see what it's worth?"

He laughs softly and he shrugs as he smirks softly down at her. "Well. I am ticklish, especially on my sides. And I'm a sucker for affection." He smirks lightly and he tilts his head. "So how's that? What's it worth?"

Serenity pretended to ponder his words, though she knew he had given her a goldmine in just those two short sentences. She wondered just what he wanted in return ... information? Or more? Maybe, she mused, she would have a bit of fun with this.
She motioned for him to lean down closer to her, one finger curling repeatedly, her eyes sparkling brightly.
"Closer," she whispered, as if she were about to tell him a great secret.

He blinks when she tells him to come closer. He looked playfully suspicious at her, eying her hands as he leaned closer to her. He was, honestly, expecting her to grab him and try to start tickling him or something. So he being maybe a little paranoid, but still playing along, hoping the surprise was pleasant and sweet instead.
