His first solo venture... In all honesty, it would probably be enough to make someone a bit nervous, since this particular assignment...in all decent respects was something similar to performing a solo mission. Not for Shinratsu.
Yokou couldn't come, she was off somewhere else fighting a giant scorpion (from what he last heard), Zephyr was happily blubbering about scorpions to mash (with the Nara in the background, pointing out they were only supposed to defeat the scorpions, not try to get a national species extinct), while Elruda-chiisai-hime was excited...humming something about bringing home 'many Akerus', much to her kunoichi companion (Sakeme)'s dismay...
Shinratsu stared down at the piece of paper he got from the advertisement. Or...what's left of it. The Senju, that brute...Zephyr had excitedly tried to take the article out of a copy of the morning paper...and ripped it cleanly in two. So it was ducktaped, but during the taping process, some argument broke out between the Hokage and Shikamori. So...when Yokou asked him if he had read the news...
The Hyuuga head of family, with a sweatdrop (expression: =_=), showed him the event and apologized for the condition of the article... As for Shin...he was beginning to find the Konoha people, very, very weird... They meant well, sure...but... Watching them trying to assimilate was most...amusing...
Well. It's probably to be expected. He had trouble assimilating to Iwa, and in fact...still felt secluded...rightly, as a foreigner on strange lands. However, bit by bit...that feeling was eroding away...slowly, but surely... And it made him wonder. Being so far away from home...staying in an unknown place... What would be their feelings for this village? However...he didn't think Senju Zephyr's laughter was fake... To laugh so openly... And he didn't think he was a bad person...after seeing the Hokage helping children who were behind in the Academy. There was a certain love...of a village not even his own...
If he could smile like that... Shinratsu's eyes grew heavy, half-lidded eyes making his expression almost distantly sad... He had to admit. He envied those people from Konoha. To protect a place that was not their native home... He briefly wondered... People like Giglamesh, like Yokou and the others... Those kind of people should be called truly strong. A dazzling kei, a pureness even while stained... A strong conviction. If only he was able to obtain such a resolve...
It made him sick to think... Where was his resolve, his conviction? Or... Had he lacked it to begin with? Still, still...the last time, repaying Yokou and Giglamesh had come as priority rather than protecting the village. He wanted to help, he wanted to do his share... But this...this was what they would call half-heartedness, wouldn't it?
While he would protect the ones close to him...his team and even Yokou's odd, bubbly group...he still haven't found the resolve to protect Iwa...
Sharp screeches in the air caught his attention.
s**t.
How fortunate he is...found three scorpions in one splendid go. A minor nest, it would seem to be. Shinratsu faintly noted. These things... Could you even call them scorpions anymore? The civilians sure would be surprised... They would be about he size and weight of a man. And...who on earth would want these things as pets, besides Elruda-hime!?
He should finish them off as quickly possible...
At least they haven't noticed him yet. He thought, somewhat nervous, safely hidden behind a sizeable boulder. He did his best keeping still and unwound the wire around his gauntlets. A ranged attack would probably be best... Should he risk it? Shinratsu wondered as began preparing for his attack. It wasn't very wise, certainly. He had no antidote on him. And plus...he was outnumbered to boot.
He began attaching the shuriken, all six of them, to individual wire and attached each wire to a different hooks on the steel knuckles of his gauntlet. The steel knuckle pieces was actually Yokou's suggestion for modification to his gauntlets...so that it could better accompany the user of Ayame Tori. Then, if the scorpion's friends would attack he could use the wire to pull out the shurikens and then cut up the next one with Ayame Tori too...without wasting time to go out, gather the shuriken, and get injured to boot. However, preparation would make quite a bit of noise.
The wind... What if he could use it to... He could use it to shield noise in the area, and the scorpions would not be aware that he was here, hidden. It doesn't need to be a wide range either, just around where he was to absorb sound.

Kon saw the scorpion's tail pierce Hitomi's shoulder. Nothing life-threatening, but still a pretty decent blow. Kon swooped into the battle, watching as Hitomi's hand cratered the creature's armor. There was a sickening crunch as the exoskeleton was taken to pieces on itself, and a large, impact crater remained where Hitomi's hand had broken through the creature's skull. Kon opened her talons and tried to deal the death blow to the injured creature.

Shinratsu shifted the pattern of the wind around his body, to mute the soft 'clinks' made as wire was secured around shuriken. However... If he threw them all in one go, it would leave him briefly defenseless. Three shurikens should be enough.
Briefly, he wondered if the wire should snap...but Yokou had promised these were the type used by hunter-nins, and among the Uchiha clan's most famous shuriken techniques... The wire was tough enough to withstand cutting elements of nature and even superheated by the flames of the Katon techniques used by the Uchiha Ninjutsu Masters. And also that, it was a personal favourite of ranged weapon masters, so that they could just pull up the fallen weapons by attached wires, and could use them again and again in attack combinations.
Coil by coil, Shinratsu attached the end of the wire to the fingers of his gauntlets. There. That should do it. Should he attack, now, all he had to do was pull on the wires and the shuriken will be freed, one by one.
And thus Shinratsu lashed out, at the scorpion (speed) that was zooming around as fast as a Genin rookie...who had come dangerously close to where he was hidden. A hand flung out and three shurikens split the air, the thin wire attached to it almost invisible unless looked at from the correct angle, and headed towards the young scorpion with deadly speed. As the shuriken spun towards the scorpion, Shinratsu allowed the spools of thread to unravel.

Hitomi leaped forward, over the creature and attacked one of the remaining scorpions, leaving the injured one to Kon, who would hold its attention. Hitomi was coming down at one of the scorpions that looked less-suitable for fighting than the previous, but much more so than the first. Hitomi numbly noted that she had been struck, but ignored the wound and focused on the fight at hand. She curled her legs, preparing to bring her heels down on the head of one of the remaining scorpions.

Kon noted that just as Hitomi landed on the skull of another scorpion, she was nicked by another tail on her bicep as she raised her arm to steady her crouch. Kon raised her beak and aimed a shot at the exposed tissue of the scorpion's skull below her. This is going rather well. Much better than I could have hoped. And we haven't even had to run yet. She also noted that that damned tail raised as she drove her beak towards what made this thing tick.

Hitomi heard a cry followed by a gut-wrenching snap as Kon was cut by the scorpion's tail, and ripped a large chord out of the scorpion's head, biting down and clipping it in two. The hulking body --twice as tall as Kon-kou-- fell limp instantly, and Hitomi raised her fist to drive it at the only injured scorpion, to correct the mistake of its existence. Her fist didn't even ache. It was the only one she had, and she was more than used to punching with it by now. She noticed that two tails were raising to strike.
