Good, Ayra knew where to go. Sentria, the stereotypical desert country, was... another country. It was far away, and it would require walking, for sure. Multiple days worth, maybe. And with as determined as he was, he doubted his ability to carry himself and Nils to that far-off land without being at his peak, let alone with the lack of supplies he actually had. A streaking noise against the window. People had found the reclusive little cottage. Were they more of the attacking army? Refugees?

Ayra, without a shred of hesitation, let the people in at a familiar voice. Adele, an enemy, no less, and Ayra threw caution to the wind and dragged the travelers in. But, they weren't lying, luckily. Some random, average-looking girl came in, alongside the purple haired berserker that tended to dodge in and out of the people's eyes, as Ayra carried her wounded husband into the shack.

Tibarn, the King of Phoenicis, to be this damaged? Things were definitely bad back out there, if he was almost dead. Ayra, not missing a beat, asked the Druid for healing services. ...and that weird new girl offered to help. Really, why wouldn't he be able to do it? He was a powerful Druid, maybe even one of the best in the country! That girl had no reason to even say anything. For all Rei knew, she was a spy, an enemy.

Just to annoy the girl, he stood up, not saying a word. He reached behind his cloak, pulling out a neglected Heal staff. The thing hardly ever got used, and when it did, it wasn't for long. But, it should do the job, and at least stabilize the man. The healing light washed over the laguz, mending his wounds and easing his pain.

"Sentria, right, Lady Ayra?" Rei looked over towards her, after the healing was done. "That shouldn't be too far... right?" A sheepish grin crept onto his face as he looked over at the 'sleeping' Nils. "...we need to get help for Nils." Already, ideas of a trip to another country were forming in the Druid's head.

(( Jeez, single-minded, much? XD ))

Maiara barely bit back something angry as she strapped her Heal Staff to her hip, against her belt. Am I that bad at talking to people, or do they simply have something against me? Maiara could only wonder as Rei completely ignored her. Adele had given her a small hint of recognition, as did the wolf outside (albeit it had been in a more confrontational way at first), but both Ayra and Rei seemed to treat her as noticeable as the wood planks in the walls. At least the Hawk King has the excuse that he's using all his concentration to stay conscious, Maiara thought.

"Don't need me? Fine," Maiara murmured inaudibly. She brushed her hair off of her shoulder, then turned and faced the door. She strode silently out of the room, her skirt rustling around her concealed left leg as she opened the front door, emerged into the cold of the snowy early morning, and closed the door behind her--not slammed, but loudly enough for it to possibly be noticeable, if they paid attention to even that.

...What now? Maiara rubbed her hands together. Eyris was taken over by the invaders, so she couldn't return there... and there was possibly no way to return to Jehenna. A distraction came in the lingering presence of the wolf, studying the horse off to the side intently.

Maiara edged carefully from the horse, giving herself more distance between herself and the giant beast, and knelt down next to the wolf. "You're still here...?" Maiara hesitated, then reached out with her bangled arm and placed a hand on his furry head. "You'll freeze if you stay out in the open like this, you know..."

Maiara looked up thoughtfully. If they could find an alcove or cave, that would at least be a place to sleep for the night. Find some firewood and there'd be warmth, too. Maiara turned to Charon. "Doesn't seem like we're exactly welcome here, so... c'mon. Let's find you a place out of the cold." Maiara rose to her feet. "If... you aren't about to ignore me, too." she laughed sheepishly.

[Blue will represent Siegell for the duration of this post.]

Siegell smiled, slipping his arm gently around Amelia's back, resting his hand gently on her hip. His eyes seemed to flare in the light from the fire, turning from their bright amber to a mellow gold, then changed to a bright and almost frightening red for a moment. Snow had once more begun to drift to the ground outside, but Siegell paid the falling fluff no heed. "Well, as much as I shall enjoy having you so close, there is nonetheless much to be done. I will need a new castle guard, and an army, to be certain. Do you know what I see when I look out at Eyris?"

He brought his face away from Amelia's, where it had been quite close all this time, and held out his hand toward the window, his wine glass perched comfortably between his fingers. "I see a city of wasted potential. It could be... perfect. The center of an empire, the greatest city that ever was, so long... as it had proper leadership. As it is, crime runs unchecked in the back streets. And I need you..." He turned his head once more to face her. "Yes, I need you by my side, to bring the people 'round. Even a dictator cannot truly operate if the people hate him, no? What progress could I make without their cooperation?" He chuckled, closing his eyes.

"We've quite a lot of work ahead of us. So let us enter this new journey together, shall we?" He lifted his glass, letting it clink gently against hers before he took another sip.

"In the meantime... your new armor should be under construction as we speak. I want you at the head of my elite personal guard. Someone I can trust, hmm? Someone who can be sure that my control over them is properly maintained. What do you say, Amelia?" The fire flickered and hissed, then flared up with a soft pop, turning his mask gold as he looked into her eyes.

Tibarn grumbled and stirred as the light of healing rolled across his frozen, scarred flesh, seamlessly sealing his many cuts, instantly reducing the swelling of bruises. He didn't look great by the end of it, but the blood that stained his hands and clothing had at last ceased to flow, and he rested more comfortably. "Where," he murmured, "Ayra... where's Vah?" He could make out his wife in the dim light, squinting as his eyes continued to adjust. Curse his terrible night vision... "She's... okay? You're okay?"

Leon, the Lieutenant of Eyris's Watch had just received that rank not to long ago. Had it really been a week now since he was promoted? Of course, even though he was promoted, and gained the privilege of learning some lance work from his Captain, he was still asked to do the mundane tasks of escort missions.

"Get as many out as you can." Those were his most urgent (and troublesome) orders, and they didn't suit one of his rank at all! He wanted to fight the invaders. He wanted to drive out the conquerors, that was the only way he'd truly save his homeland!

But instead he was playing baby-sitter for civilians. Oh, how he hated his superiors for this. It was a good thing that he didn't at least have to stay with them after taking them away from the city in peril. Of course, returning home wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't bone-chilling cold! If only there was a warm place between here and Eyris... if only...

And there it was! A log cabin, and since no smoke came from the chimney, it had to be empty. Shameful that Anri couldn't fit, but his horse had braved worse elements. The steed would be fine out here, Leon would not.

His eyes caught two specs.... which when he got closer turned out to be two people on the outside, or rather... a person and a... wolf? Not that he knew what a Mauthe Doog was, he wasn't from Magvel. If he knew anything though... anyone crazy enough to be outside in this weather had to be guarding someone or something inside.

An even closer look made the Watch member recognize the cleric and ... wolf... from Eyris! He didn't know their names, but remembered seeing them in his patrol zone. That couldn't mean well for the city if they were outside of it... "Can ya tell me..." he said to Maiara. "How th' tides o' war turned for Eyris?" Of course he was expecting bad news, but the truth would likely bring the knight to his knees.

Amelia's smile softened a tad at the warm arm around her back; it was comfortable. Gentle. Something she had never thought Siegell could actually be. She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling his hand against her hip, then opened them again at the sound of Siegell's voice. She lightly ran a finger against the lip of her wine glass, listening to the very faint whistling sound that resulted as he questioned her. "When you look out at Eyris?" she murmured, echoing his voice.

She mused over the idea as he took his face farther from hers and studied the window, hand held towards it. I see a city previously safe from invasion... its walls always has held against dissonant forces. But this time, it fell...

Amelia listened in silence. Her wine glass moved up to her lips again, and the small mouthful of wine traveled down her throat as Siegell's eyes met hers again. His words caused her to lapse into silence, her own eyes closing. Dictator... that's what you intend on calling yourself? But your goal is to improve Eyris... improve the country...

Her thoughts were distracted by the soft clink of her glass on his, and when he spoke, Amelia opened her eyes again and turned her gaze to meet Siegell's. She studied his eyes for a moment, the yellow irises near a mask that turned gold in the light of the fire. After a pause, Amelia smiled warmly and sipped from her glass. "If... I didn't intend on aiding you, would I have come with you from the start...?" she asked, the smile widening. "Yes. I'll do my best."

Adele gingerly laid the injured laguz down upon the bed and took a few steps back to survey the situation. Would this have had happened if she'd...?

No. There was no time for regrets.

Ayra wasted no time in walking into the living room and calling upon Rei. She remembered both of them...it was a genuine surprise that they both were so readily accepting of the girl, even after all she'd done. But, again, it'd been a different time. It was no time now to wonder about what could have been and what should have been.

"I--" She was quickly cut off by Rei's relatively chipper response. So she knew where they had to go. The heartlands of Sentria? It was a journey of at least a week, accounting for a generous pace. Though a thought entered her mind, mostly concerning her own willingness to return to the forsaken desert country so soon, it was quickly dismissed by her compulsion to help the swordswoman and her spouse. Besides...she needed to know what had happened with Siegell, from his mouth himself. For one who wandered as much as Adele did, there was little she didn't know. Tales of his exploits, his takeover, had spread all across the continent by now. And what got Adele the most, right where it mattered, was the rumors of him having taken a new bride.

...A hand subconsciously gripped tighter around the hilt of one of the axes at her side.

The axewoman quickly caught herself before Ayra or Rei noticed. She didn't want her hidden anger to incite the wrong impression from either of them. Instead, she was ready to throw her two cents into the conversation when--

"Don't need me? Fine..."

Adele responded with little more than a quirk of her eyebrow as the girl stormed away from them and seconds later the front door could be heard opening and shutting. Wow. What a temperamental girl...

An awkward silence filled the room for what seemed a really long time to the berserker. Finally, she took it upon herself to break it. "Lady Ayra," she quietly spoke up with the title Rei had addressed her with and her words slowly becoming loud and more pronounced, more like the berserker they all knew, "Lady Ayra...I can't help but think that this was all my fault. If I hadn't left again, maybe he wouldn't have done what he's done..."

She trailed off. It was false hope - Siegell liked to do whatever he damn pleased. She knew it. Ayra knew it. And Rei probably knew it too. Everyone knew of Siegell and Adele's partnership. If Adele hadn't left, she probably would be standing beside him right now in Sentria. But false hope was still intended hope, and even though her words were so transparent, she still trusted that the words would serve their purpose.

"Sentria...the place you're lookin' for is about a week west of here with able bodies. Realistically..." Her gaze wandered to Tibarn's body. "You're lookin' at about two, best case." She knew this continent from all the wandering she did. She didn't know if she'd be able to navigate them there, but it was one of the few things she could offer.

"Ayra...Rei..." Her gaze then wandered briefly to the druid's before returning to that of Ayra's. "I can't do this all on my own. I'm no superman. Neither are you. So...I should be able to get there if you'll trust me to lead you. I need to see Siegell myself." Her hand once again found itself upon the hilt of one of the axes. "I'll be glad to use my axes to help you however I can, if it comes to that."

Adele's attention then turned to the girl who'd just stormed out a few moments earlier. She felt bad for her. Hell, she didn't even know the girl's name. "She can help too," Adele acknowledged her ignorance with a slight nod of her head back towards the front door. "She's a really good cleric, and all the healers we can get will definitely be better." Again, it was another lie to produce hope. She knew nothing about the girl but assumption. She hoped, though, that this one was less transparent.

And, with a glance back to the front door, she hoped that the girl hadn't gone far.

The mauthe doog had been crouching low to the snow, eying the horse hungrily, ears folded back timidly at the beast's girth and tail unfurled. It was an unusual posture for a mauthe doog as canines did not typically take such a stance. Such a stance was more of a feline thing. But Charon was on his own and, well, the beast was a bit intimidating. Surely he could get at it through other means.

He froze at the sound of the wooden slab on the human den opening, one of the humans stepping out as the wood shut behind her to seal the den off. He perked and raised his head, a paw suspended in the air in mid-stalk as he turned his red eyes on the human. One of the female ones, he believed. Snow clung to his furry tail as he straightened himself, watching her but not establishing eye contact.

Charon nervously backed up a step as she approached, but when she knelt down he found that her height was suddenly less threatening. The mauthe doog sat his bum in the snow, ears twitching to her murmurs as she placed a human paw on his head, a gesture he found oddly comforting. He wagged his tail but it was more out of anxiety than joy. He lifted his head upon seeing her glance up, observing her for a moment before exploring the skies for a sign of something. He was perplexed to find nothing but the wintry sky.

She made murmurs again and stood. The mauthe doog automatically rose to his feet as well, his face full of nervous wonder as his tail thrashed at his hindquarters.

Maiara brushed her ponytail away from her shoulder. The air was cold, as it was very early morning, and she could feel goosebumps rising all over her arms, leg, and exposed midriff. Maiara shivered and hugged herself, a violent tremor going down her spine as the wind kicked up a notch. "C'mon, guy... I don't know your name... if you have one. And I don't know how you could tell me... if you have one, I mean," Maiara trailed off; she was bad at talking to a mauthe doog, for Latona's sake.

She looked up as she was approached. She recognized the armor and brown hair, and Maiara inwardly felt glad someone had actually spoken to her. Doesn't assume me to be a villain. Nice change of pace.

"...If I'm out here shivering in the cold... having just transported the Hawk King here to his wife... what does that tell you?" Maiara asked. She looked down and blew on her hands to warm her fingertips. "...Eyris fell to the invaders. Our defenses crumbled as they targeted our leaders; they seemed to know precisely how to attack each squad captain."

Maiara looked back up and sighed. "In any case... I'm not very welcome in there, and I'm freezing, so if you don't mind..." Maiara gestured to Charon and started to walk, the horse forgotten for the time being.

After her speech here, she found that Rei was staring at her dumbfoundedly. Yup, he was just as weird as she remembered.

"Bu-" he started.

"Hm." Adele stopped him, holding a finger up in the air. "Hold that thought for a second." She turned around and strolled through the living area, opening the door and exiting the cabin quickly to keep the cold from coming in.

It was chilly out here, but Adele was mostly protected from the cold by the leggings she wore under her skirt and the armgloves she favored to wear to prevent callouses from wielding her axes. She pulled the ragged scarf she wore closer around her neck and set out into the snow.

Fortunately, the girl hadn't gone far. She was walking along with the mauthedoog from earlier and another mysterious man. She ignored the other two as she focused upon the girl.

"Hey, you!" Adele called to her. "What the hell do you think you're tryin' to prove?"

The girl hesitated a moment before spinning around to face Adele. "Dude, they don't trust me. What do you want from me?" She looked fierce.

"In this place and time, do you blame them? Everything's going to hell, and you're a new face! So instead of throwing a pissy party, why don't you come back inside where it's warm and introduce yourself?"

The girl was adamant. She stood in place, fuming. Adele shrugged and advanced upon the girl. She seemed to be frozen, not entirely sure what Adele was doing, and only when Adele grasped her collar quite forcefully did she scream.

"Augh, what the hell are you doing?!"

"I'm draggin' you back inside if you're not going to come back in yourself."

"G-get off of me!"

The screams went ignored by Adele as she sent the girl to the ground with a quick yank of the collar, causing her to thud upon her rear. Adele had power and this girl was light - it was almost effortless for her to drag the girl along. Her screams continued to fill the air as Adele slowly dragged her back towards the cabin.

Maiara was, to say the least, surprised to find Adele coming back out of the cottage. And approaching her. Maiara rubbed her exposed arms, causing her bracelets to chime and crash into each other repeatedly. Maiara stopped a few yards away from Charger, but as the horse let out a loud snort through his large nostrils, Maiara inched away from him.

The conversation didn't really last long; Adele didn't seem to understand that the others seemed more content to make sure she wasn't around, so Maiara was just letting them have what they wanted. If they didn't get her help, it wasn't her fault; they were the ones that had pushed her out, right? Adele didn't seem to think that way.

She didn't even notice when Maiara told her to let go! Maiara tried to whack one fist against Adele's shoulder, but it did absolutely nothing. Too freaking thick-skinned...! she thought, gritting her teeth. When Adele had gotten her a few feet through the snow, Maiara whacked her hand as hard as she could against Adele's and stood up straight. She was shivering harder now, face flushed in indignation, but she held her back straight, arms stiff at her sides.

"I can walk inside on my own," she muttered. Maiara gave Adele a brief look, a mixture of frustration and quiet appreciation--maybe towards her not immediately branding her an enemy--before stepping back into the cabin. She didn't say anything this time, not about leaving or being cold, as she was still shivering; she just sank down into a chair, feet thudding into the floor. If anyone listened to the noise, though, they might have noticed that one foot thudded louder than the other, giving a much different sound.

They had lost. It had at last sunk in, and him not admitting it outright meant that Leon was in pure denial of it...

But they lost.

Eyris was lost, gone, just like the snowflakes melting upon the knight's armor. Some would break down and cry. Others would run off into the blizzard and hope that death would take them. Some would even swear up and down with all their courage that they would win back what they lost.

But Leon did none of those things. He just... shut his eyes. He accepted defeat, he accepted the loss... all of them were facts. They were facts he already knew upon entering, he just needed one more voice to confirm the suspicions he had all along.

The crying was done and overwith for him. This wasn't the time or the place.

He wanted to help that girl, thrown out for whatever reason... but just when he was going to unclip his cape... another one came and just threw her in.

The Lieutenant stood there dumbfounded. "Uh..."

He blinked...

Anri beside him would have looked just as puzzled had he been human.

"... Am I... 'nvited too...?"

He hadn't noticed Charon staring in Anri's direction the whole time.

OOC: Allright heres my first post *Wrings hands nervously*

Joshua lay on the ground staring up at the sky. The last events were blurry he remembered facing off against an opponent and cutting him down turning to meet the next when… When what? “Oh right the rock.” He mumbled softly. As he had turned he heard a whistling sound and something hard connected with the back of his head sending him deep into unconsciousness at some time he must have rolled over turning his head to the right he looked beyond the bodies he was lying among and saw the fighting was done. “But which side… just my luck” He thought as he realized it was the attackers that had won and everyone on his side had fled or died. As snowflakes hit his face he decided he would lay here until an opportunity to escape presented itself

His plan to lie among the bodies until he could get a chance to run away was shattered when he heard a groaning to his left and saw a halberdier going around stabbing his lance into all the bodies to check if they were dead. “Crap you’ve got to be kidding me.” Joshua thought his situation getting desperate as the man worked his way towards him. He had an idea but he’d need all the luck in the world to get it to work. He closed his eyes and started breathing slower right before the man made it to him the clank of the halberdiers armour got closer until it stopped above him. When near death the bodies senses increase dramatically and Joshua could hear the mans grip tightening as he raised his lance Joshua braced him self for the stab and..

“Hey! Man why do you even bother doing that?” The was a few footsteps as a second body joined the halberdier above Joshua “This guys obviously dead just look at that wound!”

“I’m wounded?” Joshua wondered to himself. He felt fine apart from being sore all over.

A shuffle of sounds let Joshua know the Halberdier had lowered his lance “I’m under orders to check every body no matter how wounded they are.”

“Well don’t worry about that why don’t you come drinking with us? Celebrate a little man! This guys dead for sure and even if he’s not he aint gonna get far with that gash!”

“I suppose your right…. but ” Joshua inwardly sighed with relief as he could tell the man was weakening.

“Look ill prove to ya he’s dead!” a sudden movement above him and a foot was kicked into his side. Pain suddenly flared up inside of Joshua’s side as the man kicked him in a wound Joshua had received while falling on his own sword that had been numb till then.

“Gahhh!” he yelled out as his eye flared open and he grabbed the man who kicked him’s ankle and yanked hard pulling the startled mans feet out from underneath him as the man was falling Joshua was standing his good hand gripping his sword as his left hand strayed to his right side holding the wound shut he limped a couple steps back sword out stretched out towards the Halberdier.

“Come on I wont go down without a fight.” He said.

The Halberdier looked to his comrade on the ground before calling for help… a bad idea as his friend had fallen on a lance Joshua had stepped on while getting up causing the lance to tear through the mans stomach. The Halberdier looked up but Joshua was already on him slicing his neck open with his sword. The body fell to the ground with a muffled thump. Looking around Joshua saw that no one had seen the scuffle yet and he started to hurriedly limp towards the forest putting his sword in the sash around his waist he pulled a vulunary out from inside his robes.

“Dam it not enough left to do me any good” He muttered as he tried to pour some on the gash as he ran.

Soon shouts were heard from behind him it wasn’t to hard to notice a limping man rushing from the battle field and soon soldiers were in pursuit somehow Joshua’s hat had remained on his head in all this confusion and he adjusted it as he made it into the forest fringe. “Damn Damn damn” He swore as he crashed through the bushes unsure of where he was heading. Just knowing if he was caught he would be killed

Meanwhile.

Jaren walked through the woods outside of FEF castle whistling blissfully he’d been away on commission and had heard nothing to do with any of the trouble going on if he had been there though he would have helped defend the castle. He was headed back to Eyris and had gotten lost on the way thankfully some people in a very nervous state had pointed him in the right direction before running the oposite way... which Jaren thought was strange but then decided it didnt matter. Unfortunately as usuall Jaren had not prepared for the cold weather and had opted on buying a dream catcher with all of his money…. He also hadn’t thought what he would do for food. He was like that… as he made his way through the forest towards the town he eventually he came into sight of a cabin waving cheerfully at an armoured man with a horse standing out side of the cabin. Not giving a single moment of thought as to way that man was there and why he looked so depressed as he passed.

Turning his head away from the man towards the cabin he suddenly stopped walking frozen in midstep as he stared at the thing that captured his attention.

It was a Mauthe dog a demonic little beast from his home Magval.

Jaren clapped one hand over his mouth to prevent himself from screaming. Although a swordmaster Jaren had always been afraid of the monsters that had for a time shown up on Magval.. Espically the spiders he could fight any of the monster but the spiders.

He looked back at the man with the horse which was what the dog was stareing at. The dog hadnt attacked yet so Jaren jumped to a conculsion (The wrong one) That the man must be somehow controlling it!

"Evil fiend! I will expunge your darkness from this world!" Jaren shouted drawing his sword and rushing at the man who was obviously Leon .... Luckily for them both though as Jaren started to run his feet hit a patch of ice and slipping on it caused him to crack his head on the ice knocking himself out cold as his sword flew from his hand and embedded itself in the door of the cabin straight to the hilt.Which would probably alert anyone inside.

A sword going through a door tended to do that
