Siegell skidded to a halt and spun, whipping his glaive over his shoulder, and he severed the neck of the Mauthe Doog attacking Bartre. "Not fast enough. Come on, I think I can see the tent up there!"

「 Groaning, the boy began to fall back after the others as more and more Mogalls poured out of hiding. These monsters were more organized than he'd given them credit for at first. "It's almost as if they knew we had mages! These monsters have enough resistance to hold against magic attacks!" The boy called ahead, sending balls of Fire over his shoulder back at the pursuers every few steps. 」
「 "Wyvern Rider! You in the white! What's your name?" The sage called ahead. He needed something other than `Wyvern Rider` or `Hey You` to address the man by. This was no time for proper introductions, so he settled for a crude shout. 」

Amelia looked ahead. Sure enough, Merlinus' blue tent had stood up despite the whipping storms. Or maybe he had taken it down and re-erected it once the blizzard died down. In either case, there it stood, and Amelia let out a breath of relief. "Thank the goddess, let's get out of this death pit!" she half-shouted. She motioned for Bartre and Siegell to follow her, only pausing to decapitate another Mauthe Doog that was homing its jaws in on her heart before setting off at a full run towards the tent.

He didn't have the conciousness left to hope that the others would keep him safe while he slept, but if he had, he would have trusted them to the task. The boy finally got some much needed rest to replenish his magic for the days ahead. 」

Amelia ducked into Merlinus' tent with a sigh of relief, making sure the others were safe inside before letting the opening close again. "Thank goodness," she mumbled gratefully. She didn't realize just how cold she had gotten until she realized her knees were wobbling, and she set down her lance against the wall, sinking to a sitting position. She wanted to rest, just for a minute.

"Uh-huh. Just sitting for a minute," she told Bartre. She ran a cold hand through her snow-dusted hair and looked around. "We ought to get to work at collecting up provisions. Siegell... Shastah could carry most of it back for us, right?" she asked for clarification, casting her gaze to the masked wyvern rider she was questioning.

Siegell's breath rose like white vapor in the darness of the tent as he sat down, lookin at the various cured and preserved meats and other foods hanging up around the tent. "Damn... this is... a sturdy tent..." Merlinus had, of course, been visiting Fefga's when the storm had hit, and was still there somewhere [See later pages of Frigid Nightmare, Siegell fans!]. He was just known for his ridiculously sturdy (and evasive!) tents, capable of withstanding (and evading!) attacks from many enemies.
That was why they were safe in here-- try as they might, the Mauthe Doogs outside simply couldn't seem to hit the tent. They kept sailing right over it.
Siegell looked up as Amelia answered a question, and then he nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah. We'd have to protect him, though, because he couldn't fight. Think we could take the tent down and put the food in it, wrap it up like a bag?"

Amelia nodded thoughtfully. She looked around at everything that was set up and hung from the various shelves. Preserved meats, sacks of things like salt or dried jerky, and boxes of produce were lined along the tent walls. The cold temperature was sure to help keep the vegetables and fruits in good condition.
"It might work. We should leave enough room for at least you to ride while he's transporting; you can fight off any Gargoyles that try to mess with him," Amelia said matter-of-factly. "In any case, it's worth a shot."

"Yes, but the question would be if Shastah would want a completely unfamiliar person as the rider," Amelia said thoughtfully. At the least, Vanessa and Tana's pegasi had never taken to different riders kindly, even female ones. Who was to say Shastah wasn't the same?
