Ouch. Although, even Caelan admitted the irony of him, Lord of Fire, crashing and burning. Caelan's mind reeled. How to salvage? Could he keep it funny? At least, for him? He didn't want to push too hard, the scars wouldn't let him forget what happened then. He thought and thought in a single moment, when he thought, instead of pushing why not pull? What seemed to be instantly, Caelan's grin fell, and pain entered his eyes. He always was good in Drama class. Caelan moved away from Serena's touch, looking as though he was in utter pain. Changing his voice from seductive to pained, he finished his masterpiece. He really needed a new hobby. "That hurt. That really did." Caelan got off Serena's bed, kicking up his shirt and catching it mid-air, covered his chest with his shirt, put on his shoes, and headed for the door, silent and still 'in pain'. Caelan left a well-placed hesitation while he was on the threshold, then left his dorm. He quickly walked away, keeping a sullen appearance until he was a good distance away, which he then began strolling aimlessly. He would let Serena stew, and let it sink. Let her come to him. Stopping by the science pod, Caelan pulled out a cigarette and snapped, lighting it. He then began to play with a fireball, boredom and almost what looked like pain unintentionally seeping into his eyes.

For a moment, Serena knew that she had caught him... And it was only a split second that she saw the pained look replace his cheeky grin and she felt she had gone a bit too far. Was she playing with fire now? But, what she said had been true, hadn't it? It was as clear as day... Caelan was known to be a jerk... And she was easily being played by him. But, had she gone to far by actually saying it? Surely, people knew he was a jerk, but had anyone truly told him it before? She sighed, her eyes flickering to the closing door, hearing it click shut. She tapped her foot a moment, still frozen in place on her bed. What should she do then... Chase after him? Apologize? She felt awful... Was she any different, in the long run...?
She then rose, a guilty look painted upon her delicate features, and pulled on her shirt, and over that, a hoodie. She knew that, by now, it should be drizzling a little outside... After all, she had the strange ability to make it rain when she was sad... A reflection, in a way, of her self. Her self-expression... "Caelan?" she called out when she had exited the dorm room, looking around. Which was had he gone? And then she felt a certain tugging in a direction of the science pods. Had he gone that way? A gut feeling, merely, but she listened, and her pace, though it started off slow, quickened, a certain rhythm with the now falling rain... "Caelan?" she called out once more, seeing a fireball appear and disappear. It had to be him... Her pace quickened to a run, the rain hitting against her face, chilling her...
"I'm sorry," she said when she came to a stop before him, wrapping her arms around him in an embrace. What did she care, though? What did it matter to her, really? Except the fact that she felt a strange pull to this guy, what did it matter? Did her feelings really strengthen for him while they were playing, of anything, strip poker? What a strange concept, huh... But now it was, she was holding on to him as if not wanting to let go, her hold tightening ever so slightly, her face burying into his chest, feeling a certain warmth there... It was almost welcoming in a way, and it was then that she realized... She didn't want to let go...

When Serena arrived, the fireball vanished, and he looked stupidly at her, cigarette hanging out his mouth. When she hugged him and buried his face in his chest, he realized he made a bad. He crossed a line somewhere. Caelan was now sure that at least a part of Serena loved him, was attracted to him, and he never wanted that. He just wanted to tiptoe the line. Caelan gained a pained grimace, and moved Serena away. "Stop. I don't know when, I don't know how, but I crossed a line. You were right." Caelan stood up and walked away. Before he was too far away, he called over his shoulder. "I am a jerk. It'd be best if you just hated me." Like what always happens. Jesus, am I emo now or something?

Serena's arms were suddenly empty, devoid of the guy who had kept her warm in the chill of the rain. But now, he was walking away, calling over his shoulder he was a jerk. And, perhaps he was... But somewhere she had acquired feelings for that jerk. And she didn't care... But now she was left alone, and Serena's rain stained face would never give away that she was crying now, save for the growing redness of her eyes as she leaned against the wall of the building, sliding down to come to a sitting position upon the grass. Why did she care anyways? Why should she? Only now, it would, indeed, be difficult to face him. Could she get a new room assignment, maybe? Runaway? Leave the school and not show her face? Be a freak somewhere else and work for money doing shows with water and air? She sighed, burying her face in her knees, which were now hugged to her body. She was, indeed, a fool... Easily changing as the water... But a man of fire had dried up that water and now she didn't know what to do...
"Caelan... You're a jerk..." she said softly to his retreating figure, though she knew he would not be able to hear it. "But, I don't know if I could ever hate you..." she finished. She could feel her clothes getting drenched, but she couldn't care less. What did it matter, right? She had scared off a guy that she hadn't known she had acquired feelings for... Until she had held him... Had felt that need to be around him... She sighed. Pathetic. That was the word. She was pathetic.

Heat. There was lots of it. Caelan was in another small, secluded area, once again, shirtless. Continuing his effort for the perfect form, the perfect fighting style, he had been creating fireballs and infernos and the ever-dreaded black fire. In fact, there were several spots were black fire lingered, refusing to die out, trying to burn it's way through the dirt. Caelan kept his relentless form until he was utterly spent. He collapsed onto the ground, face to the gray sky. Once again, he took it too far. This was going to bite him in the a** later, he just knew it. Every time he did it, he always took it too far. He took everything too far. Jokes, fights, being lazy, anything. Caelan exhaled heatedly, sending a nice fireball up twenty feet, where it dissipated. Oh well, like anyone would be able to get where he was, the place was- "Again?! Get to class, Valentine!!!" Ten minutes later, Caelan was walking to the biology classroom, escorted by the stern teacher. Caelan looked around, saw no one looking, and started a small fire in the freshman classroom they had just passed by. The teacher panicked and called for the assistance of the escorting teacher, who hurriedly rushed over to the fire. With the distraction set in place, Caelan kept moving, making it look like he truly was going to class. All he would have to do his round the corner, keep going, and never show up for class. Simple. However, as he rounded the corner, he smacked face first into a new girl, this one tanned and gray-eyed. Caelan stumbled back, feeling his temper and temperature rise. His hair began smoking when he called himself down. For once, he didn't want to get into any more trouble today. Instead of losing his temper and trying to beat her to a pulp, he then did the next best thing. Be snippy even though it really was his fault. "Watch where the hell you're going, you idiot!"

It took her moments later, but she finally got up, now completely drenched through, her eyes, once a dark blue, now flickering a gray-blue as she walked toward the dorm rooms, coming to stand outside, rain still dripping on her skin in a steady pattern. She knew he wasn't in there... And she didn't care. No... She didn't feel the need to go into the room, change, and curl up in a ball, immersed in both sadness and embarrassment. No... She wanted an escape, and so she turned now, her footsteps traveling in the direction of the classrooms, passing by different students, all of whom had faces that seemed blurred. She heard whispers of students wondering why she was soaked... Wondering why her eyes were lifeless and dull, her face sullen, her emotions on a down slide. And she faintly felt the heat when she passed by Caelan, who had ran into a girl who looked rather confused...
"Professor... I'm not feeling well today," she said softly, peeking her head into the classroom, not fully wanting to drench the classroom in water. The professor looked up at her, a bit confused from her appearance, but nodded nonetheless. She offered her best smile, which was rather weak, and turned around, briskly passing by Caelan once more before heading back into the rain. There was a forest somewhere beyond the hills... And though she hadn't been in there in a long time, she figured today would be a good day to go there once more...
And so, when she hit the grass, she removed her shoes, feeling the blades beneath her feet, and her pace quickened to a light jog up a hill where she saw the beginning of the edge of the forest... Her sanctuary...

Jogging through the hallways, Gem glanced from side to side at the unfamiliar posters and classrooms she past, slowing to a stop as she came to a dead end. Well, this deffinitely isn't the way we came...ugh where are the dorms? Backtracking her steps, Gem slowed to a fast-walk this time. Turning the next corner, she immediately recoiled as she collided with another student, her hand reaching up to her knocked forehead. Ouch...gonna feel that one tomorrow. She looked up at the guy she had slammed into, scowling at his comment. Adrenaline got the better of her. "Back off flame boy!" she retorted, her fists clenching as ice grew from her palms and spread up and over her wrists.

There was something about the girl's voice that chilled him to the core. Maybe it was just an ability, but somehow, her tone kind of made Caelan feel... something in the pit of his stomach. Caelan never thought he'd ever feel this kind of thing, it made him feel bad, he felt guilty. In a moment, Caelan recovered, drenching his arm in flames. "Watch what you say, ice princess, or this hallway'll get a nice new coating of you." The way Caelan said it was condescending and sneering, as if being a princess was as bad as being a cheap prostitute.

Gem's glare deepened at the second warning, light gleaming from behind her narrowed grey eyes. Her common sense and usual nature were screaming at her from the inside, begging her to walk past and just ignore the hot-headed fire manipulator. Instead, Gem steadied herself on her forward foot and shifted her bag behind her. "Oh, is that a threat?" she shot back, cringing inwardly at how pathetic a comeback that had actually been. Walk away! For god's sake, what do you want? Your head burnt off on the first day of school?! Taking a mental breath, Gem restrained her thoughts and stood back, trying to make her next attack sound as callous as possible. "You know what, forget it." She unclenched her fists and shattered the ice, sending hundreds of tiny fragments to the floor where they made light clinking sounds with the wood, and made a move to walk past Caelan.

Ice and light? Fire and darkness? Exact polar opposites? In the same school? Was somebody smoking something when they were getting kids to come here? Caelan laughed at the girl's next words, because they were some of the worst to use in a battle of words. Still chuckling, when she walked by, Caelan stretched out his arm, releasing little licks of flame. He looked her in the eye as his own turned pure black. His smile was replaced by a menacing snarl and his voice became much deeper and guttural. It was enough to make even his friends cower. "No. It's a guarantee." Caelan lowered his arm, let his eyes go normal, and walked off. After he rounded the corner, Caelan slumped against the wall and held himself. What the hell was with this feeling? Why was she able to make him feel guilty and horrible so easily?

Victoria squirted what was left of her frog's stomach acid on the teacher's frog, and his started to disintegrate also. The teacher seemed to be too distracted paying attention to the soaked student that had just excused herself. She took that chance to go check on Gem, who was most likely puking in the bathroom by now. "Whatever." She muttered to herself as she got up to leave the classroom before the door had even closed. Once she left, Gem wasn't too far away, and she seemed okay from what she was seeing so far. Caelan was sitting around the corner, being "himself". Victoria never really spoke to him from what she could remember from last year. She mainly just stuck with one group of friends. Friends who left the school and left her without even saying anything. Some friends. "Hey." She said to him as she passed.
Once Victoria caught up to Gem, she seemed sicker than she had expected. "Gem... are you alright? The teacher told me I could check on you. Sorry about the frog...I was just...bored." She smiled apologetically. She was pretty good at keeping her composure when she lied. She figured that when they got to the nurses office, she would just wander the halls quietly until the next bell rang for history. She rolled her eyes. Who listens to the teachers anyway? No wonder they question themselves when they get home. 'Why did I become a teacher?' Funny. Should have thought of that when you were getting a job.

When Caelan held his arm in front of her, Gem immediately shot him another look, glowering back at his jet black eyes as her own shimmered. Her insides crawled at his reply, his glare held her in place, and then he was gone. Gem let out a breath she hadn't realised she'd been holding. Sure that by now the colour had fully drained from her face if it hadn't already from biology, Gem started down the hall again but swung round again when she heard Victoria's voice. "Hi, it's cool, it got us out of biology anyway." she replied, forcing a smile. "I'm just heading back to the dorms for a bit I think...erm, do you know which way they are?"

After a moment of panic, Caelan collected himself and stood. He scratched his forehead, wondering what to do. God forbid he ran into another girl. He's had enough drama as it is today. Caelan shrugged and walked towards his next class: History. He'd sleep through the entire class, but hey, gave him some thinking time, right? Caelan marched off, navigating the halls and avoiding teachers, until he reached his next class. As first period wasn't done yet, Caelan just sat himself next to the door until the class started.

"Ah. They're over that way. You make a left at the first intersection, then go up the stairs. I'll see you later then!" As the bell rang, Victoria realized that the history room was moved to a different room, because of remodeling. She rolled her eyes and started to walk in the other direction. She figured they were going to study the first discoveries of America. Boring. As if she hadn't gone over it enough. Every start of the new school year, the History class starts with Columbus, the Vikings, Amerigo Vespucci and all that. While other students rushed to their next class, Victoria was in no hurry. From where she was standing, she could see the History room about a few 100yds away. She slowed her pace, feeling the boredom lurk from the classroom door.
