Remetheus decided to take his newly refilled pen for a test run. He opened the small book again and wrote a single sentence beneath the first one and showed it to Tal before pocketing both of his things in his sleeves. "I don't really care."

"Really?" Fals said, more of a statement than a question. The moogle was already bored with the whole thing. Dansworth seemed to know what she was doing though, so it would be better for him to copy what she was did.

Tal smiled at Akara, trying to silently assure her that he most certainly would not kill her in her sleep. After similar positive (or, rather, indifferent) responses from the other two, he finally relaxed his grip on the dagger's hilt.

"Yeah....I guess I owe y'all at least that much, if you're gonna stick with me. Well...I don't really expect anything. If you don't want to help me, then that's fine. But right now, all I want, is to hunt down that b*****d, Fallyn. And when I find him..." he simply trailed off, unable to put his angry intentions into words at the moment.

Nikolas
Palazzo
Amoria
Castle, Private Quarters

"This is not the appropriate hour in which to call me, Nikolas..." a voice uttered, low and venomous, on the other end of the line. Nikolas' eyes snapped back open and he straightened his posture, as if the man on the other end could see him sitting. For all anyone knew, the way Nikolas acted just from the sound of the stranger's voice, perhaps he could...

"My Lord...I apologize. I felt it necessary to inform you of our progress...I nearly forgot the time in all of this commotion..."

"Of course," the voice sounded, coldly, with a sarcastic tone. "Now, what is so terribly important that you must disturb my nightly activities?"

He hesitated a bit, feeling the harsh bite from his master's tone. But he didn't dwell upon it. If he did, there would be some form of punishment - he was certain of it. Never show too much emotion to the master. "My Lord...We have abolished the rebels' pathetic attempt at a surprise attack. I have ordered the soldiers to patrol all of the entrances into the castle through the tunnels. They won't get far if they try again tonight."

That is all?" the voice inquired, an edge of anger lacing the words. Nikolas winced silently, knowing he had better hurry up and explain - carefully - the rest of the story, or he might not live long enough to finish his current mission.

"No, my Lord....There is more. I captured one of the rebels and submitted him to....questioning....And we now know their locations. They will be easily dealt with, as long as I take more soldiers this time. We have acquired two new potentials....They're both mercenaries, I believe. I'll be taking them with me. And possibly Johnny and Hel, as well. They haven't seen much battle yet, other than basic training and fooling around with the soldiers."

"Bring whoever you need. Spare no expense of blood."

"Yes, my Lord. Shall I gather everyone and begin tonight? The sun still has not risen here yet."

"No. They will be alert...waiting for you. Go tomorrow. Let them writhe and twitch in despair and anticipation for the rest of the night. Then crush them in their fear and exhaustion when the morning comes."

A thought of the ridiculous cowardice of this plan came to Nikolas' mind, but he dared not utter it to the man. "...Yes, my Lord. It shall be done."

"Good. I shall expect a full report tomorrow...And I had better not be disappointed..."

"Yes, my Lord..."

A muted beeping sound, and the other end of the line went dead. Nikolas sighed deeply with relief as he pressed a single button on the reciever. He leaned back in the cushioned seat and let the phone slip through his fingers. It fell to the floor with a soft thud.

Well, that was over. Now he would go spend some time with his "children". And then...he would check on the king. With the wicked smile finally returning to his face, he rose to his feet and slowly made his way out of his room...

He chuckled at the woman's comment. Such blasphemies she spoke. This was not the most... common of nobility chambers. This was Nikolas's playpin. Anything went, at least for him it did. However, he would not speak a word to the moogle. He enjoyed where this might head. He took a big swig of his glass, before setting it down with a thud. He then took a roll, a bit it, savoring the flavor, before tossing it back on his plate. "Now, let's see some guards drag me out," he spoke softly. He feared no one in this house. In fact, the only reason he played the shy guy card was to get in closer to his allies/enemies. But, obviously, he was stuck with a pet and a moody woman. He need not play a shy guy card anymore. He waved a paige over. "Do tell me when Lord Nikolas arrives. I think a nap is in order." He shooed him off before slouching back in his chair. Maybe this whole aspect of war was completely overrated. No one here seemed nervous.

"Fair enough," Akara said.

"I'd like a piece of him myself, setting his little goons on us. Cross me and I'll kick your a**," Akara said crossly, face clouding over in displeasure.

"You don't strike me as the evil, heartless, killer type anyway," she said to Tal, leaning back against her pillows. "I'll stick with you. Stealing, piracy, extortion and assassinations included as long as you're going after the right kind of target."

She smirked to herself. Her mother had always said her moral compass was slightly askew anyway.

Hel
Palazzo
Amoria
Amoria Castle, Ground Floor, Dining Hall

The door to the dining hall slowly crept open a crack. No one entered, but a bright green eyes could be seen staring through the opening. Much quicker than the door had opened, it slammed shut again, loudly this time.

Hel knelt on the hall floor outside the doors, clutching a carved wooden doll in an Amorian soldiers outfit tightly to his chest. While a sixteen year old boy clutching a child's toy might be an odd sight to any random passerby, anyone who'd spent enough time in the castle the past 3 years was quite familiar with the sight.

"There are strange people in the dining hall," Hel whispered conspiratorially to his doll. "That man sitting with Johnny is scary."

Hel's stomach grumbled loudly, and his face crumpled in an unhappy frown. He shuffled forward on his knees, and cracked the door open again.
The scary man was still there. But there was a moogle sitting beside him. Hel liked Moogles. They were soft and fuzzy.

That decided things. Hel unholstered his gun, just in case, and crawled through the space in the doors. He kicked them shut behind him, and sat on the floor, eyeing the occupied table.

After gathering his courage he got to his feet, gun hanging limply from one hand, doll clutched tightly in the other. When he reached the table he sat beside the moogle, not saying a word, but staring at the fuzzy little creature with wide, green eyes. The only time he looked away from Fals, was to shoot Dansworth a glare, which was hardly intimidating.

(That was...way too much fun XD)

"You can put that gun away, boy," said Dansworth, staring lazily at her knife. "We are guests of Nikolas, and I think he would be a little put out if I killed one of his lackeys already."

Dansworth saw Hel's every movement in the refection of the knife. She thought he was cute, although the doll was a little much. If he was a little older, she might have maked a move.

Lot

"Well Tal, looks like you're stuck with us," said Lot, almost laughing. Then he turned to Akara. "By the way, what's your name?"

Lot's curiosity was definitely a driving force in his actions. It often got him into trouble, including the incident that got him tied up with this party.

The moogle was slightly annoyed at being stared at, but didn't let that bother him too much. He was used to that. Judging by his weapon, he was a gunner or something. Fals wondered if he brought that doll of his everywhere, and whether or not he'd accompany them. He could prove useful, especially since he appeared to like moogles.

He could protect him. He was a ranged attacker, and since he wasn't going to be going near the front line anytime soon, he would be near him. Fals supposed that he could always use another person to hide behind. Acting as cute, fuzzy, and adorable as possible (It somewhat irked him that he could do that so easily), the moogle turned to return his gaze, beaming.

Hel glared at Dansworth with all the potency of a kicked puppy, and deliberately placed his gun on the table top, within easy reach.

"I don't like that scary man," he whispered to hi doll. "He's mean."

Hel decided to ignore Dansworth and turned his attention back towards the moogle. The moogle who was now smiling at him. Hel smiled back, happy that the fuzzy creature seemed to like him.

"What's your name?" the boy asked softly, gazing around the hall for a servant. The only drinks out on the table were water and wine. Hel thought water was boring, especially for dinner, and the last time he'd had wine he got in trouble. Plus he'd spent the rest of the evening ill in bed.

Hel wanted juice. Plain, simple juice. After waiting for an eternity, with no sign of a servant anywhere, Hel sat back in his seat with a pout.

"Where are all the servants?" he whined. "I want juice."

"I'm Akara," she replied, holding out a hand for Lot to shake. "Nice to meet you. I suppose we're traveling buddies now. We might as well all get to know one another."

She grinned.

"But someone else can get that started."

After waiting fifteen minutes, Dansworth finally stopped gazing at her knife. She took her plate and put a little of all the food in front of her on the plate. "That's long enough," she said as she offered venison to the moogle. "Everyone waits out of respect for the royal family. now we can begin."

The other guests also began to partake of the meal, after having waited the required time.

Lot

"Well, what do you want to know?" asked Lot, assuming the comment was directed at him. "I could talk about some of my adventures, including the one that happened just now. That sort of thing happens to me a lot I guess." Lot was yet again attempting to keep his ramblings in check.

"Hah...Yeah...I think I'll save that for tomorrow. I'm gonna get some writing in, and then get some sleep while I can. Y'all can stay up and talk all ya want. We leave for Gabbiani late tomorrow morning. Oh, and we're passing through the Sleeping Forest, just so you know."

Tal gave a mischievous smile as he made the last statement, then took a bite out of a chicken wing before rising to his feet. With the journal given to him by Artemicion in his hand, he headed to the bed he had earlier claimed for himself and flopped down onto its surface once again.

He rifled around in the drawer of the sidetable until he found another pen and jar of ink. After opening the journal and flipping through the first few pages, he opened the jar and dipped the silver-colored quill into its depths, collecting a bit of the jet black ink within. He then quickly thrust the pen to the paper of the journal and began to write, singing as he did so.

"After all the jacks are in their boxes,
and the clowns have all gone to bed,
you can hear happiness standin' on down the street....
footprints dressed in red....
And the wind...whispers...Mary...."

Nikolas

"Hello, dear children," Nikolas chimed with just a hint of jubilance as he entered the dining hall. He stared at the food, which was mostly still there, untouched. He frowned at his two new guests, as well as the two children he had known much longer. They were just now beginning to partake of the feast, although it should have been set out quite a while ago.

"And what do we have here? You don't trust me to serve you food unpoisoned? Or perhaps you were waiting for some friends?"

At this point, he noticed that his "son" was sleeping in his seat. He glowered at him, then grabbed a book from a shelf against the wall and tossed it clear across the room. The book hit Johnny upside the head before Nikolas bellowed: "Johnny! Have some manners! You could have at least stayed awake until I came down!" despite his harsh tone, he was mostly only toying with the young man. He loved watching people squirm; it was entertaining.

He shot upright, his robe neatly straightening itself out. He glanced to the man, trying not to make eye contact. "I'm sorry Lord Nikolas, it was a mistake I shall not make twice." His posture was flawless, his food barely touched. He was not the eating type. He averted his eyes to the boy beside him, clinching his doll tightly. "Hel?" he said a bit confused. Was this boy to accompany them on their task?

Dansworth
Palazzo

"Of course not," said Dansworth with a smirk. "What could you possibly have to gain from killing Fals or me?" Nikolas maybe a sadistic, evil, shadow lord, but he would not kill people that were useful to him, unless he had a compelling reason. "As for friends, if any of my acquaintances tried to enter the castle, the guards would slay them on sight; not that I would grieve at all if that happened."

Dansworth decided that it would be better to leave the real reason out of the conversation. Nikolas may not like respect for the crown, until it was his.

Hel ignored the book flying towards Mikey, focusing on Nikolas instead.

"Where did all the servants go?" he asked crossly. "I want juice. And that man is scary." Hel pointed at Dansworth. "Why is he here? Can you make him go away?"

Hel heard Johnny speak his name.

"What?" he asked turning in his seat. "Whatwhatwhatwhatwhat?"

Remetheus pocketed his things, heading towards his bed. He made sure that his staff was near his person before inwardly sighing as he curled up beneath the sheets. The small mage was exhausted, though he didn't fall asleep just yet, just in case his other companions were still talking.

"I'm Fals." The moogle chirped offhandedly, already bored with the whole thing but acting like he wasn't. He still payed attention though, never know when someone might say something useful and he still knew too little about his new 'companions' anyway.

Fals didn't answer Nikolas' question, seeing as Dansworth had already answered said something. And he now knew Hel's name. He wondered why Hel called Dansworth a man though, he thought she was a female. Then again, he really didn't pay attention towards the more obscure differences between the genders of humans, but Dansworth definitely wasn't male as far as he knew.

Lot yawned. "Yeah, it's getting late," said Lot as he stood up. "I'm going to follow after Remetheus here and head for my own room next door. Good night," He said as he left for his own room. "This is going to be fun," he thought to himself.
