Aw crap!! Looks like I've got a lot of work to do. The only thing on that list I already knew was Nihonjin. I know some words in Spanish, French, Japanese, Louse ( I think that's it). Do those count or do I have to learn to speak them fluently?

I think I can answer.
You have mastered a language if you can survive a day in a country in which the language in question is commonplace.
Otherwise, you just know it, you haven't really learned it.

I'm not really picky regarding what exactly it's the history of, but the history of linguistics seems interesting to me.

Mine is the study of the female creatures that walk around us everyday. What do they want? What makes them tick? How does one talk to them without stuttering and sweating profusely? This is something I may never learn.
