She noticed the pass of emotion over his face, but said nothing. Instead, the spirit-seer waited for him to speak. Once he did, she had to think for a moment herself.

It sounded foolish and young to say she'd never encountered something of that nature before. It was the truth, but what would he think of her for that? Then again, if Verdi said that she had, he would ask questions that she wouldn't have an answer for. Not to mention her display in there would look even more pathetic.

"No, that's the first of that kind I've ever come across. Only tales of simliar spirits have been told." Even as she said it, the color came back to her face, replacing the extreme pale complextion with one of a deep red in embarassment. At least they had ceased to attract unusual attention. That was the girl's only saving grace for the time being.

Had Verdi answered with anything but the truth, he would have been surprised. Gerald blinked at her from under shaggy bangs, then leaned up against the building and looked off into the street. What could he possibly say? His entire universe had just been turned on its ear. More importantly this moment, how did this affect the formation of a friendship with Verdi? If he was going to cut her loose, now would be the time. He had enough reasons to do so; she couldn't blame him. Heck, Donovan had run out on both of them... but that would be something to consider later.

She was weird. She was unpredictable. She was never going to be the most popular girl in school or a star athlete or the valedictorian. He could tell already that staying friends with her would leave him with a lot of explaining to do. But--and this was a big 'but'--, if all this was real... Some stubborn part of his mind refused to give up on science and reason just yet and told him he had suffered through a vivid hallucination... But if she could truly speak to the dead... imagine what sorts of valuable information that could provide. Knowledge that no one living was privy to. And all the spirits weren't as dangerous as the one in the clothing store. Some just wanted to chat, have a little unfinished business taken care of... and if he could get Verdi to talk more about it all...

He exhaled softly. There were a lot of 'if's in there, but also a lot of 'but's. In the end, there was only one choice he could bear. He'd made a life of collecting information, and he'd be damned if he was going to let something this big and world-altering slip through his fingers because he'd gotten a bit of a scare. The world was a scary place; he'd better get used to it.

Eternally attempting to be cool, he shrugged his way off the wall and spoke to her indirectly. "Well, guess we're finished in there for the day... anywhere else you want to go?" He paused and glanced at her to check her reaction before feigning a very slight smirk. "Just don't say 'the graveyard'."

Shock was the only expression on the girls face for a moment. The response hadn't been 'Just go away freak,' 'I actually need to be somewhere now,' or any of the many responses that were avaliable in the world. No, he had asked where she wanted to go next. Being so unexpected, the question only hung in the air, unanswered. Where did she want to go next? It was as if the question didn't just apply to the place for her. Where did she want to go after this incident? Could she still be ok with Gerald? While his acceptance was a relief and rather nice, it was unnerving.

All this processed over her face, the expressions easily read. Suddenly, her face broke into what was one of her first true, not forced friendly smiles. "Definitely not the graveyard."

Smile still in place, the spirit-seer picked her things up off the ground and stood back up. "There's no where else in town I need to be. So, unless you have a destination in mind, I say we head back to Grove, don our uniforms," At this she couldn't help but make a face. "and set about exploring the school. You were, after all, examining the school map when our paths first crossed." Paths crossing, that was laughable, but it would do.

Gerald gave her a nod of approval and followed her out into the street. Smirk on for one... two... more seconds, lest he drop the expression too quickly. Verdi hadn't seemed suspicious of him, but it paid to pay attention to detail. He liked catching people off guard, and the young woman obviously had been lost for words for a moment there. In the end, she had accepted the unspoken offer of friendship with happiness and, apparently, no reservations. One connection made in what would eventually become a intricate social web with him acting as the attentive spider.

It almost made him want to smile in return.

Once more, she found herself smirking at his expression. He certainly was endearing.
I hope he's not stupid.
A cold wish, but if it was one thing she couldn't stand about anyone, it was ignorance. But she would simply have to find that out for herself, and judging by his comment on strange events, he wasn't stupid at all.

Rosie waited for him to be done with measurements before standing from her seat.
"So... where are you heading after this?" she asked, adjusting the strap of her purse on her shoulder. In contrast to the rest of her, the purse was something rough and festooned with buttons. Here and there was a patch of colored, wild cloth that even if there wasn't a hole, served the purpose of holding the bag together.

Colin smiled, nimbly jumping off the stool, which was odd for someone of his size.
" I was thinking of getting something to eat..There is supposedly a good place around here." He messed with his hair a bit, before tugging his gray beanie back on his head. It really brought out the gray in his eyes...
" Would you care to accompany me?" He asked, as Madame Vernier came bustling out of the back room with sizes just to fit them.

" Here you are, dears.." She said, holding each their respective bags. Colin took his, but before Rosie could receive hers, he intercepted it in a very gentlemanly way. An irresistable smile that left no room for objections to his actions.

Rosie looked at him over the rims of her glasses. He was either being very kind, or very, very cunning.
"Will you hold my clothing hostage, regardless of the answer?" she asked, a smile playing throughout her voice as she looked up at him. Rosie was finding it rather hard to meet his eyes. She wondered what he saw in hers... His eyes were soft to her. She was all too aware of her condescension to others, and would hate if that came out without any words. Why did he suddenly make her feel like a terrible person?

Colin grinned.
" No, I'm not that cruel." He winked at her with a contagious smile. He was a little worried, however, as to why she wouldn't meet his eyes.
' Well, she just met me after all..Maybe she's shy?' He wondered, shifting the bags onto one arm so it left his right one free.
" Though, I hoping you will say yes. I've enough with me to pay for the both of us three-fold."

He wondered if she was feeling ok, the look on her face that she was obviously trying to conceal. She did it well for anyone else, but Colin was not just anyone else. Remarkably for a male, he was rather good with understanding others emotions. But she confused him, which in turn piqued his interest.

The left corner of her mouth was tugged into a quirky smile immediately.
"Yes, I'd love to fill this black hole I call a stomach." Which really isn't a black hole at all. Rosie wasn't athletically built, nor was she fat, but there was always that stubborn bit of pudge here and there. At least she could say she had curves, unlike the skinny models who had bodies similar to those of ten year old boys, but her weight did bother her sometimes.

"You lead the way... Colin." Taking her hands behind her back, Rosie sauntered forward in a slightly comical fashion before turning around to see if Colin was coming.

In a moment of weakness, Colin might think her figure was very pleasing, but those were the moments of weakness, and as such, not now. He smiled, wrestled with the bags a bit more, then walked next to her as they headed down the street, chattering into the fresh autumnal air as they did.

---------------

Danni smiled, waltzing into the shop with Alex on her arm, completely contended with the day and the hot guy on her arm.
" And here we are." She reached over to ding a small bell on the counter and wait.
" She should be out in a moment, and then you'll get fitted." She smiled up at him and readjusted her arm.

Alex really wasn't looking forward to this. For starters, he hated being touched by people he didn't know or didn't want near him. Danni, well, she was a beautiful girl full of wit and wisdom. He could tell that much just by the walk over to the place, with the way she laughed, made jokes. Alex could appreciate that.

Soon enough, the woman in charge came over, and gestured for him to take his coat off and stand upon a small stool. Great, he thought, as he was taken away to become a spectacle. Sure there was no one else there, but Danni had a perfect view him being pinched and prodded.

"New student?" the woman muttered as she took out her measuring tape.
A small 'yes' was all he bothered saying. It was a good thing he had worn a tighter shirt that day so she didn't have to fuss with looser fabric. Once she was measuring for a collar, she had a chance to look at his face. "Eyeliner?" she asked as if it was a grand joke. "Wonder if they'll let you get away with that."

But it wasn't that comment that made his fist curl or his eyes grow cold. It was what she muttered when she walked away that made Alex turn inside himself.
"Wonder if I should hand him a skirt..."

Danni let out a small 'tch' and raised a brow at the woman who had looked over at the noise.
" I could say the same for you, ma'am. What is that that your wearing, an embroidered dish cloth?" She sent her a harmless smile, watching the woman's mouth fall open, before she shut it and bustled off, mumbling under her breath.

Danni allowed herself a sly little smile before turning it towards Alex.
" Don't listen to that old shrew. I like your eyeliner, and I think your manly enough to look hot in a skirt." She stood to correct a smudged line under his eye.
" She probably just has a dusty uterus anyway.."She mumbled, rolling her eyes before sending him a wink.
" I probably won't be allowed to shop here anymore, but it was worth it."

Alex stared at Danni during the exchange, with his lips parted slightly in awe, and those lips turned into a smile the second her finger touched his face to get the smudge. She defended him. He'd never been defended by anyone but his dad. Even his friends back in high school had been stand-alone people in the end. But Danni... she'd just pissed off the woman without a second thought.

A few minutes passed. Silence in the store...
"I... really don't think she's coming back," Alex said. And at that, he burst out laughing.

Danielle joined him in laughter, warm and honey toned and mixing with his perfectly.
" Aw, it's alright. At least you'll have an excuse for when a teacher asks why your not dressed right." She grinned, and jutted her chin at the back room.
" Well, speak of the devil." The woman came back out again, sporting a blue skirt this time. Danni found it hard not to laugh as she sat back down after correcting another smudge with aching slowness.

The second time she dragged her finger under his eye, his heart started pounding. What on earth was a girl like her doing, correcting the eyeliner of a guy like him?

"Gotta.. go get my uniforms," Alex muttered before tugging his coat back on and escaping for a moment to the counter.
The woman offered no apology, barely made eye contact, and performed the transaction with a certain air of coldness. Typical, he thought, even though he wasn't the one who had said anything. Once the packages were under his arm, he motioned towards the door for Danni to follow.
"Where next?"
