"'Impossible', Arthur?" Mordred smirked. "Whyever would you say such a thing! It shouldn't be too hard to find him. Or are you claiming I can't convince you to try? Strange-- I would've thought you'd be eager to assist me in finding someone other than yourself to spend time with."

Arthur paused, deliberately, set down the pen, slowly, turned to half glare half stare at Mordred, laconically. "Find, him, yourself, Mordred. I'm busy." Because he really didn't want to know any more than he needed to about whatever Mordred was up to.

"Now why would I do that when it's so much easier to bother you?" Mordred grinned. "Tell me what you're so busy with, Arthur~ Maybe it'll convince me that I'm better off looking for Edmund on my own."

To tell the truth, he wasn't actually busy with anything important. Just trying to wring out a few answers through unconscious writing, to get a few hints about why things were so strange in the air, especially around that unicorn and the new demon.
But Edmund? Edmund was of no consequence, as far as Arthur was concerned. No longer possessed of any need to get up at all, he pointed out the door, "Try the library."

Now they were getting somewhere. "And where would this library be, Arthur-dear?" Mordred's eyes glittered with unholy anticipation. "I think you'd best show me."
Edmund was, by far, one of the most interesting characters Mordred had come across in his time here. And the angel was not about to let this intriguing coon slip away so easily.

Arthur stared at Mordred in a hostile disbelief. Really, what was the point of making him get up? But talking was only going to prolong the damnable angel's stay, besides--there seemed to be something funny and brown and...
"You're my bat," he commented dryly, picking up his staff and moving across the room towards the hall.

Mordred only laughed at Arthur's words, not caring what the rat thought. This visit would be fruitful in one way or another-- and Mordred was intent that it be fruitful in the way he planned, rather than in the way it could go. If he'd read Edmund right...
And if he hadn't? Well, the angel would deal with that in time, wouldn't he?
Following Arthur close enough to prod him along to move faster, Mordred didn't bother to try to hide his anticipation. Things were moving now, and he wanted to be at the center of it.

Considering Mordred's interest in the coon, Arthur began to have second doubts over whether Edmund really was of no consequence. Thankfully, he didn't have to worry long about this development before they reached the library, and a somewhat surprised looking coon emerging from it.
Ah, Mordred. Of all the pleasant surprises...
"I'm afraid I've yet to see my brother today," Edmund frowned at Arthur and the angel, as if Atticus' presence were the first and foremost thing occupying his mind. "Perhaps one of you..." he trailed of ingly, unwilling to shed a hint of other intention in the rat's presence, but almost certain he wouldn't have to worry about that for long. Arthur looked as eager to go as Mordred did to stay.
A pleasant surprise indeed.

"Shoo with you now, Arthur-dear," Mordred smirked. "I have things to discuss with Edmund which would probably bore you to infected tears."
In truth, Mordred couldn't care less if Arthur heard anything that he had to say to the coon-- but then again, discretion was always a good thing to attempt, wasn't it?

"I doubt I'd be crying of boredom," Arthur muttered, remaining exactly where he was. "Give me my bat."
Edmund frowned distractedly and peered closer at the pouf of brown fuzz portruding from Mordred's fist. "Forgive me, is that... alive?"

"I apologize if you're mistaking this little piece of fur for your own little prize possession," Mordred smirked. "But this one has a tendency to live at my own home-- with a house mate, as a matter of fact. And yes, dear Edmund, he happens to still be living-- for the moment, at least."

It was Arthur's turn to frown. There was another one?
For that matter, where was Archimedes?
Without another word, he slipped off into another part of the house, perhaps to search for a bat perhaps for another person to warn of the presence of Mordred.
Edmund paused long enough for the rat to be out of hearing range, though didn't for one second drop the demeanor of subservience. "Do you mean to kill it, my lord? For I cannot see how it might... breathe."

"I was considering it-- but decided against it. And he appears to have peculiar survival powers-- perhaps endowed upon him by his master, your Alpha," Mordred smiled as he shifted his grip to twist one of Cayden's wings, letting the small creature shriek quietly.

Alpha. Lovely. He owned one of the annoying little creatures as well? What poor taste. "What purpose, then, does he serve you, my lord?"

"Have you ever tried to communicate with these beasts, Edmund?" Mordred asked curiously as he twisted the bat's wing until a tiny snap could be heard followed by that whimpering scream. "They're quite interesting, truth be told-- at least, the stories they tell are. Apparently, you see, your Alpha sent this little creature on a mission of sorts-- one that I thought might interest you."
