Marketa sniffed, still keeping her head down nearer to the screaming infant for some ungodly reason, and turned her head to face him with a red nose and wet eyes. "What if it's too hard?" she asked so quietly Sirius may have had to read her lips. Then again, he may have had to earlier just because of the shrieking cries. After asking what felt like an impossible-to-answer question, Mar pulled the baby's ear near to her mouth and began singing the lullaby about the Mockingbird in Czech as a last resort.

"It won't be," Sirius assured her quietly, over her quiet lines of song. As it turns out, he wasn't half bad at reading lips. "It only gets easier after this..."

Marketa finished the lullaby, and it seemed that Yvonne may have been starting to calm down, so she quickly pushed on with "Blikat, blikat, krátký osud," one of her favorites as a little girl. She still remembered how her father would cuddle her in his lap and she would stare at the stars. Thinking on her feet, she pulled out her wand from under her mattress and produced a few artificial stars above the baby's head. The Ministry would only register it as her mother doing magic anyway. Yvonne's eyes widened, and she reached for the stars, enraptured just as Mar had been as a small child.

Sirius grinned. How could she think that she wasn't any good at this - the stars were beautiful. Miniscule and luminescent, they twinkled brightly in the dimly-lit room. As Marketa sang, Sirius finished in a soft-but-strong baritone: "How I wonder what you are."

While Yvonne finally stopped crying and giggled as she tried to grab at the stars, Marketa turned to look at Sirius. "T'ank you," she said quietly. Turning her attention to the stars, she blew on one and it flew to revolve around Sirius's head. "Sirius: krátký skoba osud," she said with a wan smile.

Sirius smiled apologetically - in a fashion that screamed 'don't thank me'. To amuse Marketa, he tried grabbing at the star spinning around him, only to fail miserably as it danced passed his eyelashes. He adopted a faux surly look, still watching the rogue star.

"I see you were named after de Dog Star for a reason, den," Marketa laughed, watching his stuggles with her little star. "Bot' of you are so close to being caught and kept forever, and den you simply dance out of reach of dose who try to cage you."

"I'll let you in on a little secret, then," he said, lowering his voice. "I think the dog star only dances out of reach because he hasn't found the right catcher yet... If that's so, then we share the same plight: to find our desired cage."

Marketa felt a blush rocket up her cheeks and she smiled. "Sirius Black, why do you never talk like dis in front of anyone but me? I try to tell everyone 'ow wonderful you are, and dey look at me funny," she laughed.

"I talk this way when I give advice or when I'm talking about something extremely important... but not when I'm bullying Snivellus Snape. So... maybe it's because most of the school sees me only when I'm doing the latter. I have to keep up my image, you know." Sirius grinned.

Mar smiled and shook her head. "You seem like two completely different people, sometimes. Dis is why I like being alone in your company; you seem much more mature." She lifted Yvonne slightly in order to coo: "Isn't dat right?" at the infant. Yvonne stuffed her fist into her mouth and gurgled, large orb-like brown eyes focusing on Sirius.

He wasn't sure if he should take that as an insult or a compliment. He was awful mean to Snape sometimes - but, come on!
It doesn't matter. I like being alone with her, too...
"She's got puppy eyes," he commented, looking at the infant.

Marketa feigned anguish. "You see? She 'as only been in your company maybe two hours and she 'as already taken to you in such a way she is beginning to look like you!" She snorted as she poked Sirius in the ribs. "Child-corrupter," she teased.
