Thorn was now completely immersed in the book, her attention off of everything else for the moment. A rare moment of peace when the girl could dwell on the lives of another, more fictional, more interesting plot as opposed to her own life. It made her smile, a rarest of smiles, although she wasn't aware of doing such a thing. To show pleasure....happiness in this heckhole of a place! But she remained unaware; after all, ignorance was bliss.

The book itself, although now only on page five, was starting on the history itself of the fantasty's past events of creatures that lie hidden away from the world, and yet as the times ahd modernized, they were right infront of the faces of normal people without them realizing it. Mutants, foul creatures, they were called, but these rumors made by humankind were false...somewhat. While the Lycans and vampires were locked in a never-ending war with each other, the faires wanted peace between them all, and daemons wanted control over them all.

Just for history, it was worded so wonderfully that Thorn couldn't describe it in her own without putting it to shame. She continued to read, smiling, unaware of it.

Alice lead him down the hall and back towards the stairs. He was guarded and almost assertive, and his silence made Alice uncomfortable.
"The dorms are on the third floor, and all the rec. stuff is on the second floor, including the dining hall." Said Alice, desperate for a break in the silence.
He made an acknowledging grunt but said no more. When they rounded a corner Alice caught sight of him looking at her, making her uneasiness increase slightly.
They walked up the stairs in the continued silence, Alice having to quicken her pace slightly to keep up with him. Finally they reached the long corridor of dorms, lining both sides of the walls.
"Do you remember which one was yours?" Alice asked, as she fidgeted with her ring some more.
"Your's is 314, Mr. Black." Came a voice from behind them. Alice whirled around to see Dr. Gerard standing behind him grinning like a fox at it's prey. Alice saw the boy's hand clench at his side. s**t, I don't want him to end up in solitary. God knows what could happen. Alice thought to herself.
"Is there something you need Dr.?" Alice asked, trying to keep the disdain for being polite to him from her voice.
"No, I was just on my way to the fourth floor. Just thought I would check up on everything. Behave now Alice." He said as he turned on his heal like a military officer and left. Alice sighed and rubbed her temple, her headache was getting worse.

"God Damnit SOMEONE LET ME OUTTA HERE!" Dimitri shouted, severly pissed off. He slammed his shoulder into the door, "Alright, haha, you've had your laugh...now...OPEN THE GOD DAMN DOOR" He slammed his shoulder into the door again. The door wouldn't budge, DImitri's temper flared, the lights flickered slightly, probally the c*** wiring in this place. Dimitri walked over picked up his guitar, plugged it into the amp, but couldn't find a electrical outlet. "Figures, now way they'd give a prisinor eletricity" He grumbled. He unplugged his guitar and started strumming, praticing a few songs he knew from memory.Gotta calm down...take deep breaths, focus on the music...no one's gonna let me out when i'm so angry He thought to himself. He started to sway back and forth from side to side as he played, getting into the rythem of the music.

The whole while he and Alice were walking, Damien could sense her discomfort. He tended to have that effect on people, and usually thought nothing of it, but for some reason, in this case, it really bothered him that he was having that effect on her. Furthermore, the fact that she was able to make him second guess his demeanor really frustrated Damien.

As they approached the dorms, Damien sensed a presence, an evil presense. It felt like he might have a vision, but he didn't. When they stopped in the dorm hallway and Alice asked him which one was his, her question was immediately answered by Dr. Gerard. Of course Damien didn't know, and apparantly the Doctor knew that. This told Damien that the b*****d had something to do with his amnesia. Damien could hardly contain his anger, he wanted to deck that arrogant cur right there, but Alice seemed to make an attempt to redirect where the situation was headed. She protected him? Damien realized it was only because Alice was a genuinely kind person.

When Dr. Gerard left the two alone again, Alice looked Damien right in the eyes, "You have to be careful around him, or you'll get thrown in solitary." Damien nodded and said, "Thanks..." he hesitated for a moment, "...for what you did. If you hadn't said anything, I probably would have punched him." Alice smiled then directed her attention to the ring on her finger, playing with it for a moment, and then continued to say, "I never like to see anyone put in solitary." Alice looked down the hallway, to her own room door, "Well, I need to sleep." She looked back up at Damien, she knew he was reading her like a book. "So... see you around?" Damien smiled and answerd, "I hope so." They both retired to their rooms and went to sleep.

Charlie opened her eyes to rows of books. Before she could panic, she remembered that she was in te library, but she didn't realize that she had fallen asleep. How long have I been here? She hoped that it wasn't long, and it wasn't, though she had no way of knowing it; it was only about twenty minutes. Uninterested on the books for now, Charlie walked out of the library to do some more exploring.

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
Moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I love
And drowned her deep inside of me

How appropriate, thought Charlie, only there's not a guy for the sea to steal from me. She let "Just Like Heaven" finish, and then switched off the mp3 player. She turned a corner and opened the first door she saw.

"Excellent!" She breathed when she saw the pool tables. She had never been very good at pool, but this would be a good place to practice, since there was not much else to do. Charlie racked one of the tables and picked up a cue. She placed the white ball on the other end of the table and took aim.

"Aw, crap." She had missed the entire rack of balls and scratched in the left corner pocket across the table. Well, her skills had definitely not improved. Hopefully, though, her game would get better. At least good enough to no longer suck. Then the balls would fear her! Muahahahahaha!

Charlie snorted at the thought of someone or someting fearing her. The only time anyone was afraid of her was when she was behind the wheel of a car, and even then that was tempered with fear for her. If only she could make someone fear her. Just because she was little did not make her any less dangerous. She hoped. She reached into the pocket and drew out the cue ball. She reset it and fucused her anger into the cue, but not all of it. She didn't know it, but part of her anger was channeled into a different part of her brain. One that didn't control motor reflexes. Somewhere in the mansion, a sleeper was having the worst nightmare of their lives.

Lance was still fighting the guard when he felt something hard hit him in the back of the head. Lance fell forward, and tried to get to his feet when the guard kicked him in the stomach. He doubled over as the guard reached into his pocket and took the zippo. The guard walked off as a second walked over Lance. Lance struggled to his knees, and glared as the guard opened his zippo and lighted it. Then, somehow, the flame grew much larger than it was supposed to and then... attacked the guards? The guards ran off, dropping Lance's zippo, as he stood, legs shaking. He staggered to his zippo and picked it up. It was still hot, yet it didn't seem to have been tampered with. Lance hesitantly lit it, when suddenly... nothing happened. Lance looked at the zippo before pocketing it and walking off, wiping blood away from his mouth. Alright, so maybe he had been tampered with. At this point, the only thing Lance knew was that the guards would be back, this time for revenge.

Alice plopped down on her stiff mattress, and sprawled out. All the restlessness from solitary was finally catching up with her. She had just fallen asleep when suddenly she started dreaming, but the dream was more like a nightmare. Her mind raced with memories of the past, an image of her cowering in the corner as Rick stood above his fist raised, flashed through her mind. Then the image melted away revealing something far more terrifying. It felt like she was awake, but when she glanced around her, she caught sight of a figure. As the figure moved towards her she realized it was Rick. She could practically smell the whiskey as he neared her.
"No...you're dead. I killed you. I saw you die." Alice muttered, as fear rose inside her a terrible snake uncoiling.
Rick said nothing only continued to walk towards her, staring at her with that same look that often haunted her.
Alice screamed and broke away from her nightmare, sight up right in her bed. The sheets where askew and her pillow had fallen. She clutched her head, her headache was still there, and was now pounding to the rhythm of her fast beating heart.

“I know you will,” Dawn said faintly in a breath and her words were hardly audible. She clutched almost desperately to Brynn’s sleeves. Was this compassion? It was nothing like how her father treated her, but it felt right.
“But why?” she had to ask herself. Why was Brynn treating her this way, and why did Dawn believe that she was protected? There was more to this. There was more than a sibling-like love and need to protect.
“Who are you?” Dawn whispered. “Who am I?”
Dawn stood up suddenly, pulling Brynn to her feet with her. “You must go,” she said smoothly, but there might have almost been fear in her words. She opened the door and the two stepped outside. The hallway was empty and cold, all metal and glass.
“Why?” Brynn asked, sounding concerned and suddenly angry, not with Dawn but whoever had made her so afraid. “Why must I go?”
Dawn looked around the hallway. “My father wants me to become friends with the new students.”
“I don’t understand…” Dawn looked up at her sharply, cutting of her words. “Who is your father?”
“I think….he is up to something….not so nice…” Something flashed behind her eyes. She had never gone against her father before. Then she looked past Brynn and her eyes went wide.
-----
Jack stood up from his spot on the couch. His mind was on Alice, but he tried to brush away her image. This was not the time to be worrying about women. He moved slowly from the library, passing the sleeping figure of the girl from earlier. The hallways all looked exactly the same to him and he had no idea what direction he had come from, but somehow he found his way to the right hallway. He was looking down as he walked, but stopped at the sight of two girls talking at the end of the hall. Normaly he wouldn’t of cared, but two words struck him.
“My father….”
Everything clicked. The girl staring up at the doctor with pride and excitement, knowing her way around, drinking the juice like it was candy despite the weary look of everyone else. She was the daughter of the good doctor, and she was standing here in front of him with no protection.
Jack ran up to the two girls. The one with pink hair must have guessed his intent, or else just didn’t want anyone near Dawn, because as he ran up she jumped in his way. Jack pushed her, hating the fact that he might hurt an innocent girl but doing what had to be done. He seized the front of Dawn’s shirt.
“Tell me how to get out of here! Make you father free me!”
Dawn’s eyes went blank. She was shaking her head slowly. “Please…don’t…” Her face seemed darker, like some shadow had crept over it.

A rage gripped Brynn like she had never known. She seized him by the shoulders and turned him around so she could see into his eyes. She searched them, trying to bring to the surface all the pain she could muster. She forced him to look at her, to see her eyes, to see her anger, to fear her. Her voice was an almost deadly whisper. "If you touch her one more time," she breathed, her eyes never leaving the boy's, "I'll make sure that you don't survive this hell of a little retreat into the backwoods." She held on to the boy with an iron grip and kept staring into his eyes. Her hair darkened to a deep purple and her eyes lost more of their blue, accenting the gray in her eyes. She positioned herself in front of Dawn but kept her eyes connected to the boy's. She didn't want him to look away and try to go after Dawn again.

Christopher stood in the hallway just outside the dineing hall. He rested his head against the cold stone of the hall trying to ease his throbbing head. His head had been pounding for days and the cold helped a little. Christopher had snuck out the back after the Dr. Had made his announcement. Christopher hadn't really been paying attention but had become more interested whe the Dr. had said something about how they had been altered. He wasnt quite sure what he had meant about the students being "altered", and right now he didnt really care, he just wanted his head to stop pounding. He'd figured out how he had been altered later, right now he wanted to avoid the rest of the students, like he had been since he arrived at the school. The library seemed like a good place to hide out, and he smiled slightly as he relished the the thought of settling down with a good book. Christopher stopped leaning against the wall and slowly shuffled off towards the library.

Dimitri had calmed down quiet abit. He set his guitar back aginst the wall and lyed down and closed his eyes, he heard a click then looked over at the door, it now hung open. "all I had to do was calm down...figures" He muttered, he walked out, no one in the hallways. He wandered around the halls getting used to the layout of the building.

Charlie smiled as she actually hit the racked balls, but frowned when the eight ball went into the pocket from whence she had drawn the cue ball only moments before. In frustration, she yanked it out and reracked all the balls, taking aim again. This time, she barely nudged the one ball with the cue ball. Well, at least this means that I don't have to start over...

Charlie continued to attempt to get the balls she aimed at into the pockets. After forty-five minutes, she finally pocketed the eight ball...on the other side of the table from the pocket at which she had aimed. Remembering what Alice had said about cameras, Charlie thought, Well, it's official. I am definitely the worst pool player in the world. And now, there's video evidence to prove it. I just hope that it doesn't make it to the internet. She chuckled at the thought of the "good doctor" putting anything recorded here on the internet, especially since he was doing slightly illegal things in them.

Thorn got quite a bit farther into the book (for she was past the history intro and was now at the first chapter), when she realized that she had let her guard down for far too long in a "public" area such as this. She could also hear footsteps; not good, she wasn't supposed to be a book child!

Shutting the book and using a few pieces of her hair as a bookmark, she realized that she had no place to hide the book if she kept it with her; were they even allowed to take books out of here? There was no sign anywhere saying anything about it, and this certainly was no school. She sighed; she figured that not many people would look in the library, right?

....wrong; there's been too many people here to leave this thing all alone. It appeared to be the only copy. There must be SOME place I can put it.... Thorn thought to herself. But where?

AHA! Just head to the room real quick with it; no one has to see, right? Well, they'd find it eventually. She decided just to take it out and come up with a smart remark if anyone asked. After all, what did she ahve to fear of the others? They were all weaker in street fighting compared to her!

Looking left to right, she quickly slipped out of the library, clutching the book, now in the halls.
