He wasn't the kind of child to yell in frustration, or impetuously stomp his foot in impatience. In fact, Yuurin was very patient for such a small boy his age...he was rarely the type to cry too. But tears of disappointment did well up in large, darkly green-gold eyes, pooling slightly at the corners before rolling slowly down his pale cheeks...
A soft sniffle, as he tried to keep it under control, but it happened as so anyways...
As the older staff of the castle had known, it is only in the instance that it is one of San's requests that he grows more impatient - solely focused on accomplishing the task at hand and...the child only grows truly upset when he wasn't able to accomplish something San had asked of him...
Startled apparently, the maid came to a halt, and kept asking him comfortingly what's wrong...but this girl was new to the staff, so she did not understand the reason for the tears...
"Water." He whispered. "I need to get water. Someone...is really hurt..."
It wasn't just not being able to accomplish San's request that upset him.
No, that someone saved lots of people.
Even if it was only such a little thing as bringing water, he wanted to help...
Obtaining Water Yuu has a dilemma on his hands. The kitchens, where he could get fresh water for Kana, happened to be built not just 'not exactly close' but very far from the medical wards. If he takes the main path, it would take forever to navigate through winding hallways to and back. However, he recalls there are multiple passageways, shortcuts, in which would make the distance covering much easier... Theme Song: Main Theme But the maid merely looked uncomfortable. The procession of people marching by and the light from the painted lanterns threw long shadows over her features, and as she looked away, the jeweled ornament dangling from her decorational hairpin gently swayed in time with the gesture... The lantern light caught the tiny set gemstones in the ornament, darkly tiny stars set in lustrous metal glittering in the dim light.
"So you wish to use the servant pathway...? But..." The girl began slowly, rather nervously...almost biting her lower lip just very slightly as if the effort of coming up with an acceptable answer for the child was difficult. Her hands uncomfortably fisted the hem of her robes, wrinkling the smooth silk of the dress. "I'm sorry...but that's not...see..."
Yet her voice trailed off again.
"Why not?" Asked the child.
If it would help...why wouldn't that be allowed...?
His eyes fixed intently on her, but the maid apparently refused to further speak on the matter. Or to even look at him in the eye, for the matter. Her grip on his hand did not loosen either...if at all, in fact, she gave his small hand a gentle squeeze...
Was there something in the pathways...?
Something that might be dangerous for him?
"I am sorry...but let us just wait for the Lords to pass...we can just use the main pathway..." Said the maid at last.
She could not come up with an acceptable excuse.

Theme Song: Main Theme Unhappily, Yuu was pulled quickly along the hallways by his hand. He walked quickly, keeping up pace, at the very least the young woman wasn't taking up a pace that was too difficult for him to keep up by... But she was becoming rather tight-lipped now...though at the very least he supposed he should at least be grateful that the halls have somewhat cleared now...there would be more people arriving, but for the moment now they did not have much trouble navigating through the halls... The child cast his gaze to the great stone walls, where a moth descended upon a burning lantern and, with the slightest crackle, blackened and died...
Casting his gaze away, he wondered to himself.
Had he likewise asked something that should not be answered, then...?
...
And that was when the realization hit him.
Ah.
But of course. While the main halls have guards stationed, the servant passageways must not. Then that could only mean...
Traps.
And only the servants would know how to get through them.
Thus, if any unwelcome presences utilize these passages without setting any off...
Then it would only mean the palace's staff were the traitors.
So he did not press on...did not say anything else. Merely gave a light squeeze to the bigger hand in return...
It was a small pity.
But it was pitiful, nonetheless.

[Time to begin my training towards 95 ranks in knowledge....]
Aya sat up smiling at Maya. She knew the Tateagmi meant well by her words and she wouldn't really kill Kana if she ever cried over him again. As everyone began to filter out of the room, the girl with the pools of watery eyes wiped away her tears as best as she could. "Alright," Aya said with a nod as she picked up the discarded charts from the floor. No matter how much Aya didn't want to admit it, Shinichi was right in knowing that Aya knew how to set his bones so they would heal correctly. "I should reset those splints... I didn't do a very good job earlier," Aya said with a smile as she scratched her nose, hinting that she had goofed up in some way or the other. "The empress seems really nice... She almost reminds me of Ichi," Aya said to Maya and Kana as she began unwrapping the splints that she had set up poorly for Kana. None of the cloths were bloody since Kana had been washed up after Aya healed the wounds of his skin and tissue. Draping the cloths over Kana's torso as if it were a table, Aya removed the splints. "Where was it again? His..." Aya began as she read the descriptions that Maya had written, which made Aya smile once.

A smile had finally grazed Aya's lips and those pearly whites were released like the sun rays between clouds. "Ne, ne!" Aya said in her usually tone as she was settling back into her normal light personality. "Maya-chan, can you show me where this is?" the girl asked, holding up the chart and pointing to the spot that spoke of Kana's leg. At least, Aya thought it said leg! Maya's handwriting was rather poor, but Aya wasn't going to make fun of her for it because Aya was happy that Maya had helped with Kana's charts. As Maya studied her own handwriting, Aya turned to Kana. "What was the samurai like? Was he big and armored with a huge katana?" Aya asked as she started unwrapping his arm while asking the questions. She was feeling a bit shaky still from her lack of chakra, but right now it was due to hunger! Boy was Aya hungry. She hadn't eaten since breakfast before the tournament, but she was used to not eating for awhile ever since the Orochi War her endurance had built up quite a bit to the point where she didn't need to eat three meals a day.

Maya scrunched her nose. She had to read her own notes? Now that was a first...mostly because Maya never really bothered with notes to begin with! She studied the area where Aya was pointing, and blinked. Holy crap, what had she written? It had to do with Kana's leg, but where exactly was it again? Well then... Maya looked down at Baki and silently asked him to help - HE was the one who had found most of the breaks anyway, so he would probably be better at helping decode her own notes....which was slightly shameful. Maya sweatdropped and gave a weak smile. "Well, that's... um .... that would be..."

"....."
Maya felt a harsh drop in the pit of her stomach. How much help had she ended up being!? Stupid Huwei, making her take notes on medical things, on bones - all she knew how to do with bones was break them, not mend or help name them! The thingie in Kana's leg was busted, yes, but where, Maya had no idea. Something like the tabby cat area...what? Maya cringed; now she was just making stuff up in her head. It had started with a 't', the bone, but what was it? Maya tried to push her tongue into different verbal positions, trying to remember the feel of the word. What in the name of god had it been? Only a few minutes had really passed, maybe 20 at the most, and already her mind was blank? And then the academy expected her to remember jutsu, right. It was a miracle she had passed academy! How was she going to meet the requirements for the next set of exams? Maya rolled her eyes and groaned. Great, just great.

Happily darting in to the spacious chambers, before the maids present could even say anything...Yuu took a clean bronze goblet and filled it three quarters full with water from the purified basin...but then...
Certainly, Kana was somewhat cleaned but...
...he did look quite bloody still. The child realized.
The feeling of dried blood couldn't possibly be very pleasant...
So rolling up his sleeves and passing several curious servants, he took a smaller basin, of the same kind of gilded bronze as the goblet, and filled this one halfway with fresh water...
...now towels...where was he going to get one...
He could...well, take the hankerchiefs from the dining hall...
But they weren't ideal...
He'll just have to take a towel from the laundry pile when they pass through the landing, then...
So standing up - though wobbling slightly unstably - with the basin in one hand, now heavy with water, and the goblet of water in the other, Yuurin marched out of the kitchens to the curious glances from the palace staff, probably wondering why the boy would need that much water for... If it was for washing up, he could've just headed to the bathing chambers...
They stopped short at the open chambers where the maids were washing, hanging up, and taking down linen. Yuu stepped forth and asked politely for a towel, and one of the maids kindly gave him a freshly clean one...though...
The boy looked at one hand, then at the other...
A sweatdrop.
The maid who had accompanied him all this time took the towel instead.
"You are going to fall, young master." She pointed out kindly, before taking the basin too.
He didn't seem to hear though (the only sign being a slight pout), before deeply musing over another matter...
It's late...
It's late...he's forgetting something very important...
Then the boy stopped to a short halt there, looking deeply thoughtful.

...and Aya's friend...
So to the great curiosity of the maid accompanying him, spinning on his heel, Yuu returned to the kitchens, and filled another two goblets with water. But now there was a dilemma. He has three goblets...how was he going to carry all of them...?
One of the servants kindly showed him a special kind of platter, with several holes...
Ooh. Interesting... Thought the boy, as he peered over the oddly shaped piece. So the goblet's base would be secured in each of these gapes, and then one would be able to carry multiple goblets at once...
How ingenius.
He briefly praised the one who had invented such a simple but useful device in his mind... So, he placed each of the goblets onto the strange platter, a slight click securing each one safely in place. But then...came the hard part...
He tried lifting the platter now.
...who knew water could be so heavy...

What control he gained through speaking with San came out of sheer diplomacy; One always lied under his teeth when talking to other countries, especially when that country had proven to be nothing but trouble for Shimagakure. But when Aya harshly hissed at him to scram, as if he were some bothersome cat, Shinichi found it exponentially harder not to lose himself in his famous rage. Because anger rarely dissipates without either being bottled up inside (and Shinichi's inner still was full) or turned into disguised or open poison, the black fury that the Kage wanted to spill out was the epitome of untamed darkness. He had already made the mistake of letting his emotions overwhelm him in killing Dhan and started a bloody, useless war. Was it really necessary to begin another one? Perhaps one diplomatic mistake could be remedied, but two? And since San clearly favored Aya, the man forced himself to calm down, the strength of which left his body shaking and him with shallow gasps for the breathable air that was immediately polluted by the rebellious Aya's presence.
San's interjection saved his honor as a patient leader. Shinichi let out a deep breath and unclenched his teeth, already feeling the gums weaken under all the pressure. As San went on, he couldn't help but think of what he had almost roared. 'No, I don't trust you. You put the entire village in danger by running away from your duty! How the hell can I trust Ichi in the hands of two shinobi willing to leave Shimagakure, everything your mentor worked so hard for, because you didn't get everything you wanted? You brats have been spoiled long enough!' Look at them, controlling their Kage like he was some incompetent puppet. And worse, it he tried to reassert his authority, tried anything in fact, they would always find some excuse to use any minor flaw, past or present, against him. Their convoluted logic made the pits of his stomach burn. These two were not Shimagakureans. They were not two kids Ichi would be proud of.
The biting words caused a surge of relief to flood through Shinichi. He would no longer waste any more time or anxiety over those two if they continued to act like that. The sudden peace softened his expression and he nodded eagerly to San. "I apologize for insulting your medic earlier," he said sincerely, now more aware of the man's talents, "Song-san's help is much appreciated. I cannot repay your great kindness."
When Yuu came into the room, Shinichi's peace left him as quickly as it had come. His brain pieced together possibilities, except instead of worrying about enemy maneuvers this time, he was concerned with something much closer to his heart. The child was young, possibly even young enough to have been... no. Impossible. But San had insinuated that she and Ichi were special to each other. And why else would she brand his symbol on her wrist if their devotion to each other was not powerful? Surely Ichi could have chosen some other symbol if there were any ill memories associated with this woman. The thought brought a deep melancholy to the man and try as he might, he couldn't find reason to think otherwise. That question lingered even as he tried to focus on San's words. Could this boy be Ichi's son?
He could not begin to reply to the Empress, but stared after her silently. Burdened by a question he could not ask, Shinichi merely tipped his head to the inhabitants of the room and followed San to the prison. It was clear he wasn't needed in this country. Was he needed back in Shimagakure or did their mood also elevate noticeably as soon as he was out of the equation?

Aya's blue eyes turned to Maya as she began to stumble on her words as she tried to decipher her own written words. "Oh! I think I know where," Aya said for the sake of saving Maya from herself. She watched Maya roll her eyes and groan, so the little Tenmoki girl just flashed a smile. Aya ran her hand down the bone of Kana's leg. "Gomen, Kana-kun," Aya whispered to her boyfriend, knowing that it was gonna hurt him as she touched his sensitive areas. She was sure it was somewhere around the large bruise, but she needed to know the exact point of breakage in order to set things correctly.

"Aha!" Aya said brightly as she was no doubt causing Kana tremendous amounts of pain as she made a quick snap with Kana's bones. She didn't give him warning, because she knew he would only tense up, and with Kana's muscles it would've been impossible for Aya to put the bone in place! "Ne, ne! That was the worse part," the cute little medic kunoichi told her boyfriend as she set the planks in place around Kana's leg. As she set them there, Aya thought that there should be a better alternative than just using planks that were likely to move after an hour of wearing them. "Just a little more pain while I wrap the cloth around~" Aya said, trying to make it not sound bad for Kana as she did this. "Ne, ne! Maya can you elevate his leg?" the girl asked with a smile. It was hard to wrap the splints securely if she was losing one hand to raise Kana's leg.

It was a good thing, though, that he kept the water not full to the brim, otherwise there definitely would have been spills...
Carefully...carefully...
So thus Yuurin headed for the medic ward with the maid.
Somehow...
He kept getting this nagging feeling that he was still forgetting something...

What was he forgetting...?
But he didn't stop walking as he mused. They continued at a even pace, passing through empty halls now...

His gaze was set on the night sky - a good view this particular window had offered...except...it wasn't exactly the stars but...
New moon, again... Thought the boy, noting how dark the night sky was tonight.
...
The cycle of the moon...the new moon represented the demon hunting season...
...
But it won't be demons hunted, this time around...
A soft sigh escaped his lips.
A repeated tragedy.
Shinobi.

Civilian.

Warrior.
In the end...were they not all human...?
So why...?
Why does the samurai despise shinobis so much...?

What was it...?
Where...
