[I am super sorry for not filling in those posts immediately. crying ]
He ran to the lagoon all the way from the village to escape the unnerving glares people gave him. It didn't matter whether he tried acting like a decent person; People were just too used to his disagreeable nature that they couldn't stand him in a semi-good mood. No matter what he did there were also persecutors, people out to get him. ... Oh, the woes of being a freaking shinobi, for Kami-sama's sake! Shinichi shook his head as he took a shortcut through the forest, bypassing the path most people took to enter the lagoon. Hardly a sound was heard as the Kage leaped from tree to tree, as graceful as a cat and twice as silent. When he finally found the gathered children, Shinichi somersaulted off a branch and made sure to land on a twig, thus alerting everyone to him. So far there was a smaller crowd than he had anticipated, but still enough for a decent relay race. He had expected such favorites as Serena, Tanu, and Izumi, but they were probably just being slow today. Oh, well. Action waits for no one. "Let's get started then," he said curtly, waving for the group to follow him a short distance to a waterfall 40 metres in the air.
"I hope you brought your swim suits," Shinichi said with a laugh. He rubbed his hands eagerly together and looked over the brood of unfortunate tramps he'd have to teach real sports to. Without surprise, there were the Three Miscreants. If they hadn't shown up, he'd have dragged their necks here, but a mischievous child also meant an adventurous one. Good for them! He nodded in the direction of the three as his eyes scanned over to the only other child brave enough to compete."How are you, Kane?" he asked cordially and rhetorically. Kane wasn't bleeding to death so he should be alright. Without missing a beat, Shinichi raised his voice to be heard. "This will be a team exercise so form two squads." There were four so far, but he expected more to show up soon. Shinichi gestured down the roaring waterfall, stepping so close to the edge that from an angle, one could think he were suspended on water. Sea foam splashed onto his kimono and the dark foliage above cast dark shadows on Shinichi's angular face.
"There will be 3 challenges to test your abilities. I don't care who does what, as long as you manage to complete them all. The first person will jump off this cliff into the water below. If you streamline your body correctly, you'll land fine. If not, you'll be in so much pain, your screams will wake Dhan." Shinichi chuckled as he watched the children's faces for their reaction, then went on, "As soon as that person hits the water, he can search for three pearls at the bottom of the lagoon or someone else can. After you're done with that..." Shinichi pulled out two rubber balls from his pack and pointed to a net he set up below. "The third challenge is a team exercise. One person will throw the ball so it soars over the net and the second person has to catch it. You do that twice. First ones to finish wins. Sounds simple? Great. Come on, let's begin. And you, Kore, I have something special planned for you if you'll be kind enough to leave your partner's side for the day." When everyone was in teams and in position, Shinichi started the relays with a simple "GO!"

"Oh, hi, Kane!" Orika waved to the male with a great, bright smile on her face. She felt at peace with herself after that examination of her fears and anxieties. "It's good to see you here. Are you looking for a team? I-" Just then, Karite came bounding into the lagoon, looking as lost as a cow in a pigsty. He was so cute. "I challenge you to beat us!" Orika chirped as she quickly latched onto Karite's arm, previous resentment at him ignoring her during his and Maya's fight forgiven. The excitement pumping through her veins made her think of what fighting was like for the former thief and how it was almost like a drug that he couldn't keep his hands off. "You'll be my partner, right, Karite? Oh, right, you just got here. Uh, so Shinichi-sama decided to organize a sports festival so we don't think too much about the bad things in life. It's a celebration of our past miseries and a hope for the future." Orika cheerfully waved at Shinichi to signal to him that they were about done choosing teams, so confident was she that her boyfriend would be her partner for this event. With her eyes and his thief skills, they should have no problem kicking Kane and Shisei's butts! "Eh... you go first, Karite-kun," Orika suggested.

Maya crept into the lagoon area and growled as she saw the crowds of people. Her ears had caught the directions of what was happening, but she stayed back. There was no way she was going to pair up with any of the students, especially since she didn't really know any of them...and they seemed to be paired off already anyway. But...the exercises looked kind of fun...and Maya could at least do the first two parts of it on her own...
Signaling for Baki to stay where he was and watch her back from there, Maya crept forward until she was at the cliff's edge. She peered down over the edge, and shrugged. Seize the day right? Maya peeled off the new clothes she had gotten from Mai's home and was down to a tight black tank and moderately light khaki shorts. She shivered; it was cold! But at least she had clothes under the warm stuff...so screw it. Without so much as a backward glance, the Tategami girl threw herself headfirst over the cliff...

Maya felt the free fall easily, her tawny eyes almost closed as the water got closer and closer. Her bare feet caught on the cliff side every so often, but not hard enough so that it would break any of her bones. She needed her feet bones at least; those were the ones she used to get around and run away from people. Well, not from her enemies, no true Tategami ran from an opponent...but running from the social aspect of life in general, well, Maya was good at that. She wasn't a fan at all of having to be around people and be nice...that wasn't going to happen any time soon. Maya shifted her weight in the air, trying to figure out a way to hit the water. A belly flop would hurt, but she didn't want to disrupt the water too much with the ever popular cannonball...hmm ...

Maya shifted her weight midair and 'streamlined' her body like Shinichi had said. Her hands were pointed over her head, her right palm touching the back of her left hand. She hit the water clean, and opened her eyes underwater, the cool, crisp water almost leaving her breathless. It had worked - she hadn't stirred up too much of the water, and now she looked around easily, trying...wait, what was it that she had to find down here? Clams or somethin'? Maya rolled her eyes underwater and floated just beneath the surface, wondering just what it was she was looking for. Well.. at least it was kind of pretty under here, and not just swampy like what it seemed the other in-land water sources of the island would be. Instead here, the water in the lagoon came from melting glaciers in-land that traversed the harsh landscapes to come together and cascade beautifully down the cliffside, thus providing them with food, water and a place to live should they have to go camping.
What? Maya shook her head. What the hell was she looking for again?

Karite listened to what was going on around him and was sure that today was going to be one of the best days of his life. As Orika attached herself to his arm the boy couldn't help but to smile. Looking at her with his large silver eyes he kissed her own the forehead and brushed away some strands of hair. "I would pair with you if you were destined to enter the pits of hell and fight with the devil himself. Your stuck with me now doll face." As Karite heard Shinichi talk to Kore about something special he smiled and ruffled the guys fur on his head. "Looks like your staying up top today buddy. Dont worry I will be fine without you for a couple of hours." Standing beginning to strip down to his undergarments. Karite showed off his tanned body. Riddled with scars like a well read book he was more than capable of going toe to toe with a sailor about war stories from the way he looked. The one he sported the best was the mark of shame itched into his face by none other than Maya herself. As he stood and looked at the cliff he saw Maya jump from the cliff. Karite smiled, it was going to be an interesting event. "You still owe me a romantic night Orika, dont think I forgot." Karite said as he ran to the edged of the cliff and without hesitation kicked backwards and flipped into the abyss. All that was heard was the slowly fading sound of his excited call as he plummeted down the face of the cliff spinning in all directions. His earring and chin whipping in the wind.

((Azzy, You might want to handle the peral hunting your combo is an 11, mines is a 7.))
Karite was enjoying the free fall. It was something he hadn't tried before but if it was this much fine would more than likely do it again. His only concern now was where was he going to get enough air under there to breath? If Orika was there he could always try the mermaids kiss, swapping air between one another. The other option was finding a underwater air pocket. That wouldn't have worked either. Pausing his thought process to do some mid-air spins the boy was lining his body up for the perfect entry. A native of the wave country couldn't let a jungle girl show him up on the perfect dive. He would bring shame to his past. As he realigned himself with the water he formed his arms into the perfect triangle and lined his fingers on top of each other. As he was ready he would tuck his head in between his arms and drill through the water like a knife. He still had not thought of a way to double his air so his only other option was to move quickly.

Kane's evaluation of both children was interrupted by the arrival of a new person. Smiling genially at him, he watched as the guy joined the team... and immediately grabbed Orika's attention. Damn. She would have been a strong ally. Feeling slightly peeved that he was stuck with this scrawny runt, Kane nonetheless got up and moved over to the group smoothly. Think about his hidden clan qualities... think about his real power underneath the surface... he thought to himself. Eying the young snake kid critically, Kane decided to introduce himself, figuring that the very least a team needed to know to work together was each other's names.
"I'm Yamanaka Kane," he said, offering the boy a hand. "From the flower shop."

Shisei had begun to ignore most of the commotion around him. He had stopped playing with the leaf and just allowed his eyes to wander about the growing field of people. Before he could answer the emotional girl, the blonde from the village appeared introducing himself. Soon after Karite, then Ero-sensei followed by a crowd. Shisei decided to keep his answer to himself. He had already told the reaper that his eyes had seen enough from the farmhouse although Orika did not need to know that. Regardless of who it was he'd become the best. Whether it be Orika, Tanu, Karite, Serena, Xyn or even that person.... he'd be the best. The crowd began to grow larger. “How annoying…” the violet head thought as he returned to his feet. The man explained the rules and teams were chosen. “Good I prefer to work with someone with more experience.” The serpent had deduced that he was in a class higher. Perhaps in Maya’s or Serena’s. Looking off the edge the gold eyes stared at the boy. “My name is Orochi Shisei.” Also extending his hand somewhat awkwardly. “Take the first two exercises. I can’t swim.” the pale boy replied gripping the elder’s hand.

Pearls...that's right. Maya's eyes scanned the bottom of the lake, and she spotted the first pearl-host easily. A large, almost open oyster taunted her and she swam towards it, kicking her legs easily and reaching the mollusk, prying it open easily and snatching the large pearl from its pink, smooth tongue. Maya wondered just why oysters held the gems in their 'mouths'. To her, it would seem pointless, most especially if the gemstone managed to get itself stuck in the oyster's throat or something like that. The though made her chuckle mentally - a choking oyster at the bottom of the lagoon...now that was hilarious.

Maya held onto her first 'prize', debating just where to carry it...and she rolled her eyes as she popped it into her mouth and held it under her tongue. Well...if the oyster could do it, so could she. Maya floated for a minute, her eyes searching, searching for another oyster so that she could snatch another pearl. She needed two more, since Shinichi seemed to like doing things in three. She mentally smiled at the small joke and continued to swim around lazily, knowing that soon she wouldn't be the only person hunting for the small, whitish orbs.

The serpent child eyed his 'partner' in these events. He looked like a typical pretty boy. Sparkling yellow hair like the backside of a wasp that was dipped in glitter. Kind, blue eyes like a lake in spring. The perfect poster child to show off a day at the beach. There was no doubt in the white child's mind that his older peer worked in a flower shop. Shisei just hoped he did not live up to the blonde stereotype. Actually that would be better if Kane was as dumb as a tree stump, but performed well. He’d be easier to direct then. Especially how things were becoming with the Xyn character, it would be advantageous to have another higher ranked shinobi as back up. Hopefully Yamanaka Kane would not be a disappointment. He did look like he could be strong. Hopefully the youth also knew jutsu. Then he could start getting ahead of his peers.
Scoping Out the Competition
While the others play Shisei will stay. For future purposes, it will be good to see just how well everyone does in these competitions.

Maya floated for a bit, a tad bit lost. Just one oyster? Was it supposed to respawn pearls at certain time intervals, was that it? Maya groaned and hovered over the oyster, willing it to produce another pearl quickly. She wondered then how they made them, exactly... and then quickly forgot the though. It would take too much energy to really think about that and she didn't want to waste energy she could be using to find pearls instead. Oh, but this was harder than she thought it was going to be... Maya poked the oyster-shall, silently demanding it produce faster so that she could get out of the water.

"Hi, Shisei-kun," Kane said easily, shaking the kid's hand. He noticed Shinichi arriving and giving them all their instructions, and nodded slightly at the older shinobi when he acknowledged him. No reply was needed, and besides Kane didn't interpret his question as being particularly sincere anyway. He turned to Shisei to split the sections up, but the kid was quick and got in the first word.
"You can't swim?" Kane echoed Shisei in a bit of surprise. He thought that the academy would at least teach their students this basic skill, considering that they were on an ISLAND and all... you know, water for miles around, lots of pools even on the island itself... but no matter. This was irrelevant for now.
"Mmm..." he said thoughtfully, noting that the others had already started. Not very good really. "All right. I'm not too good myself, but I'll try," he said, offering Shisei a boyish grin. "But seriously, you need to learn to swim, and maybe after this I'll help you with it."
Not looking forward to this at all, and yet looking forward to it a little, Kane made his way to the cliff. Seeing the pile of clothes that lay there, from Shisei's teammate, Kane decided that it would probably be a good idea to strip off a few layers, but definitely not to the extent that the boy had done. It was cold after all. Who cared if there was sun. Kane had never really taken to the cold.
One jacket, one dao and garish earring off later, all Kane had on (which was still a lot) was a tight T-shirt and fitting khakis. And his underwear. He knew that the earring was relatively small and thus easy to lose, but he didn't really care since he was going to replace it anyway. That earring had been so 2 years ago. But his dao on the other hand... If it went missing, someone was going to hell. Hopefully not him.
Kane looked down at the water which looked so very far away. Only then did it hit him what he was going to do. Taking a deep breath (and feeling the goosebumps), he tried to remember what his lessons in the mainland had been like. Yeah, they'd taught him how to dive. Kane looked at the bodies tumbling down and Maya already having hit the water and made his decision. He leapt down and curved his body in the air, arms extended.

As he felt the wind whooshing through his hair Kane opened his eyes fully to see all the sights and sounds. He was sure that he'd never do this again so why not enjoy the experience fully while it lasted? If he died, at least he'd die seeing pretty things. And he'd meet Dhan... Kane there and then resolved not to die, at least not then. Like everyone else, he'd die when he was ready. He'd go into this further, but this activity was kind of exhilarating, adrenaline-inducing and not to mention potentially fatal, which put Kane's mind on instinct mode. Seeing the surface of the water get closer and closer Kane made an effort to streamline his body more, making sure that as little of his body's surface would actually hit the water. He wanted to be like a sword stabbing into it.
