Orika braced for the ball that would roaring her way, but Baki seemed to be stopping his charge at the last second, spinning himself around and- Holy crap! The girl ducked and gave a feeble whinny as the ball slammed into the net backing just centimetres above her head. Her one, only, and very, very precious head. "Uh... nice shot, Baki!" Orika yelped without a trace of resentment in her voice, but only a nice big grin. She was playing with the strongest lion in the world; What did she expect, a gentle toss of the yarn ball? Putting on a brave face, Orika stepped forwards and grabbed the crumbling black and white ball in her hand. The school probably couldn't afford new balls so they were stuck with the ones the kids brought over from the mainland all those years ago. Orika dropped the ball and backed away a considerable distance, thinking she could fool Baki as far as the strength of the kick was concerned. The farm girl charged forth and though she kind of forgot to trick Baki in her adrenaline rush, slammed her foot into the ball sending it speeding forwards like an arrow and with just the right amount of curve so it would hopefully land somewhere in the far corners.

Feigning a hard slip in the mud, Baki threw his forelegs forward and tumbled head over heels. He landed in a neat little heap, popping his head up and letting his tongue hang out from the side of his mouth, panting. He made a show of acknowledging that Orika had made a damn good kick, and let her score all at once. He was a good friend after all. He yowled, standing and shaking his mane, checking himself once over and making sure he hadn't hurt himself in the tumble. Back legs good...fore legs good...nose a little tender but otherwise good...he pricked his ears and swung his tail a bit, lowering his head and pretending to be ashamed with himself for missing that block.

Baki nudged the ball with his nose, and then, with another easy swipe of his paw, launched it at the net towards Orika, careful of her human body. He knew that it would meet the net; Orika wasn't limber enough to have stopped it. However, Baki knew that the girl was raw - she had amazing potential, and Baki growled softly at the knowledge. He shook himself out and trotted over to her, licking the girl's hand and letting his tail swing gently, lowering his head and waiting for her to scratch his ears. There was nothing like a good ear-scratchin'!

"That's not..." Xyn's arm froze when Maya leaned closer. He almost leaned into her as well, but instead he folded his arms and leaned forward. He pressed some of his weight into his legs and started to stand, but didn't make any other movements beyond that.

"All things seek balance. It's the second most basic principle of the Douken. You're always helping me, but... I... what could I possibly offer you..." Xyn felt like he had this conversation with her already, and he probably had. Arguing over it wasn't going to bring about an answer, so he quickly interjected before she could respond.

"You remember the promise I made... when we first met?" Still standing beside Maya, the boy took a single step and turned to face her, nearly standing in front of her.

Munin simply couldn't get a better angle on the conversation. Although he could hear the boy's words clearly, he could barely hear or see Maya. What was it she was saying... trying to focus was so irritating. All of a sudden, Munin heard a familiar word. Something about 'Promise'. The raven took a moment to try and assemble the sounds around that word. Xyn made... some type of promise. Maybe that's why Xyn was always so concerned about that girl, some promise he had to keep?

Maya's blank eyes looked up at him.

"I don't hold you to any promises," she said softly, standing and turning away from him. She'd been being her version of 'affectionate' and he brought up a promise of a spar? Maya didn't even feel like sparring - how horrible was that? He'd frozen and moved away...

So much for that. Balance...she lifted her lip in a growl, and looked at him over her shoulder, eyes narrowed in a glare.

"I am not Douken. I don't need balance," she spat, visibly annoyed - and hurt. She shook her head and walked away from him, finding a boulder and climbing up onto it easily, her legs pulled tightly against her chest and her arms wrapped around them. Balance...she was Tategami, and Tategami fought for themselves. Maya could provide for herself and for others; it was her strength that would help her survive. She growled, shutting down the part of her head that handled emotions. She let her eyes drift shut, and listened to the sounds around her.

"Everyone needs balance..." Xyn slid his foot a little closer, offering his hand as he held it toward her. His eye didn't know where to look, going from left to right. Had he... said something wrong?

"Maya..." He almost pulled back his hand, but struggled to keep it outstretched and his palm open. He hated seeing her so sad, but what could he do? All he had to offer was...

"I guess... I'm not a suitable partner..." Xyn couldn't back out of a promise. It was something he agreed to, it didn't matter if someone else held him to it. Still, he and Karite should be at the same level, and she fought him with such a thrill... maybe it wasn't fighting that she enjoyed...

"You fought with a smile on your face... I hoped... to see the smile again..." Xyn's voice was starting to become weak, but he tried his best to continue, "if I can't be a fighter like you, then maybe... you can be my balance." Xyn swallowed, nearly choking, was the sentence was completed. He didn't really know what he was saying, but he felt he had to keep talking. Eventually something he said would be the right thing... right?

Now that Xyn was standing up, Munin could get a better handle on the conversation, although Maya's face was still hard to read even while examining it. There was yet another familiar word, 'balance'. He heard both of them say it, but Maya seemed to disagree with Xyn. Not Douken... not balanced? Xyn always referred to himself as a Douken, maybe those words were relate. The raven made a few flaps of his wings when he heard the word 'fight'. Were they having an argument already? Humans always had such unstable moods...

[Enter from Uchiha Estate]

Sukotto made his way to the training grounds after having learned that the person who he sought out had been in the area. As he walked, the genin stared at the foggy breath that escaped his mouth as he exhaled. It looked very similar to the smoke that he would breath after training with a fire jutsu or launching one at an opponent. He thought of how strange it was that two polar opposites, the smoke from his fire jutsu and the fog from the cold air reacting to his breath, could produce such a similar looking phenomenon. After trapping himself in his mind for a few moments, the Uchiha shook himself free and set out for what it was that he had ventured to the training grounds for in the first place. He tightly gripped the top of the sack full of training weights that he had been carrying over his shoulder as he came within close enough proximity of the grounds to see the people who were present in the area. The first figure that he noticed was Maya's lion partner. Sukotto remembered when he had mistakenly called Baki a pet during his very first mission with Maya when the village was under assault by strange mercenaries. He had certainly learned his lesson and realized that the two were more like best friends or siblings than master and pet. There were also a lot of the younger shinobi participating in some sort of game that was most likely related to the festival. Sukotto recognized a few of them, but there were a few new faces present and he was happy to see such a fresh sight. For him, it felt like it hadn't been long since Ichi had brought him to the village that he had learned to call his home. While he knew that life could be very cruel, seeing the young new faces helped to stir up a sense of what Ichi had truly fought and died for during that fateful mission to the Orochi village.

Having heard Maya's voice take a tone that hinted towards an unapproachable mood, Sukotto took the time to wander through his mind a little more until she realized that he was trying to catch her eye. He decided that this would be an excellent time to do a little bit of scouting for the future ambitions that he had set out to achieve since there were so many younger shinobi in the area. The genin would keep his eyes open for special sorts of personalities and those with the ability to improve beyond any of the rest. While natural talent was something that most higher ranking shinobi would look for in the youth of the village, Sukotto knew that a hard working ninja who was capable of being taught the values of teamwork would surpass any other shinobi who claimed a higher degree of individual skill. In addition, the Uchiha had a knack for spotting people who really took the time to think through and reason out situations to find the best way of reaching a predetermined goal. While taking time to react in battle wasn't always the best way to handle a conflict, speedy thinking was something that could be trained easily, deep and focused thinking was not. To speed up this process of finding what he was looking for in the younger generations, Sukotto decided to make use of his kekkai genkai, since it would make the most subtle motions of the observed party much easier to notice. With a single blink, the dark hazel circles in his eyes were replaced by two bright red fields that would assist him in determining the strengths and weaknesses of those that he planned to focus his attention on.

Partner?

Maya opened her eyes slightly at the word. But she already had a partner - Baki was her partner, her best friend. Xyn had Munin - they were alike in the way Maya and Baki were alike. They were thinkers, the way she and Baki were brawlers. Though...maybe there was balance there. Brains and brawn, the way her first squad had been...though that had crumbled into nothing. Maya frowned at that thought, but turned her eyes towards Xyn and his outstretched hand. For a minute she just eyed it, not really trusting the meaning behind taking it. But then...

"I fight for the thrill...the excitement.." she said quietly, sliding off the boulder and standing, hesitating. "It's...fun. The way dogs play fetch...that's why I fight," she explained, though winced slightly at her metaphor. She probably could have picked a better one...but oh well. She lifted her lips slightly into a small shadow of the smile she had while she fought, and tentatively touched her fingertips to the center of his palm. She withdrew them, of course, but stayed standing near him. "You fight your way...and I can fight mine. And..." Another hesitation, but Maya dipped her head and shrugged.

"And we can balance." She reached over and ruffled his hair gently, and turned to stand side by side with him, watching Baki romp and then come towards her, having scored all his goals and, Maya noted, having enough compassion to allow Orika her own notches on the scoreboard. The massive beast reared up, his paws on her shoulders, and licked her face. Maya just barely held her ground, grunting against his weight but smiling, shoving him backwards and scratching his ears. She noted Sukotto had entered the area - she hadn't really seen him since the clowns had attacked; he was a pretty reclusive kind of guy. Wait, no, she hadn't seen him since they returned from the Orochi war. Right? Meh. Maya shrugged mentally, not particularly caring, but even so...

Xyn let his hand weakly slip to his side. Defiant to the end... it was something he'd come to learn about the girl. Still, being with her...

The boy started to adjust his collar in order to hide the unstoppable and strangely glowing smile creeping into his face, ignoring Munin fighting to get a better position in the conversation. The raven squawk a few times, but Xyn merely tilted his head to the left to nudge him. Once the static look had returned to his face, he turned his shoulder slightly, it brushing against hers as if to make her turn toward him as well.

"Earlier... did you want to talk...?"

Munin was a little surprised and how easily he could grasp these human words. If he just picked out the ones he heard most often and determined their meaning, he could build together what they were saying. They were definitely talking about fighting, not actually in a fight. Different ways of fighting? Maybe that was it. They had gotten into an argument over their different styles. It all had to do with some promise... a promise to fight? Munin cooed at the idea, knowing just by looking at the girl that Xyn would surely lose such a battle. Hmm... Munin started to wonder... if Xyn and Maya fought, would that mean he'd have to fight Baki? The raven started to bury his head in Xyn's collar, ready to hide if the conversation actually went in that direction.

The Uchiha realized that Maya had picked up that he was present, but figured that she hadn't quite picked up on his body language, for she didn't take to approaching him. Sukotto saw that she was conversing with one of the others, so he figured that he would wait until they ceased. Interrupting two people in mid conversation was something that he tried to avoid as much as possible, and judging by the way that the pair reacted to each other's words, whatever they happened to be, Sukotto decided that the conversation was most likely about something more important than what he had to speak about to Maya, and so he would wait.

He continued to take this opportunity to observe the unripened shinobi of Shimagakure. The fact that they were playing a game for the festival was a convenience that Sukotto couldn't help but overlook in his search. They were most likely participating for fun, and so this activity would show their personalities as well as their potential for improvement along with their natural skills and abilities. The genin realized that he would have to factor in the element of luck in his observation, since one or more of the younger ninja may have had an off day on the day of the game, causing them to perform less than their best. In addition, there was always the possibility that one or more of them wouldn't see any point in a game, causing them to merely go through the motions of playing instead of actually trying to succeed. Unfortunately for Sukotto, it was quite difficult for him to determine how a shinobi would handle themselves in battle until they actually entered one. Their nerves could very well take precedence over logical thinking, preventing them from handling the conflict in a way that would bring about the best outcome. While a competitive game could reveal some of this hidden skill, it definitely wasn't a complete indicator of how they children would handle themselves if their life happened to be on the line.

With all of this in mind, Sukotto had an epiphany on the spot. Before younger shinobi could ever be placed into a combat situation, their instructor had to know for sure that they would be able to handle themselves. It wasn't that they would lack the skills or abilities to deal with opponents, since they had been trained about as long as they could walk, but they simply lacked the experience and training to be able to deal with the way that their minds and bodies behaved under severe circumstances. A chill crawled down the Uchiha's spine as he wondered if any of the older shinobi had considered placing students into a controlled situation that would seem life threatening enough to stir up these feelings. This sort of test would truly tell whether or not a student was ready to become a full fledged shinobi.

She could hear a small commotion coming from this direction even from the shore. It wasn't that long a walk, and she didn't know where else to go. It was always best to go where there were the most people. If she had the misfortune of encountering some person with less than respectable intentions, surely their would be someone else with more honorable intentions to guide her in the proper direction.

"Hold my hand in the dark street." She still couldn't be seen from this distance, and neither could anyone see her. She maintained a low voice, still practicing the song while she walked. She had stopped skipping the moment she made it to solid ground, but she still walked with somewhat of a glide, her wide skirt moving back and forth like a bell chiming. The cold air combined with the energy she was placing into her song made her cheeks appear even rosier than normal. She, of course, already knew this from the warmth in her face, deciding she could somehow use it to her advantage. From the direction she came, Sukotto was the first person she saw, but she paid little attention to him at first.

1... 2... 3... 4 boys, 2 girls, and 2 adults... wait... is that a lion?

She came to a stop while she quickly scanned the area, not wanting to be seen just yet. It was probably best to approach the adult first, but this boy was in the way. He seemed much older than the others, but still had the look of a child in her eyes.

"For if you do I know that I'll be safe." Eri continued her song, beginning a very casual approach just slightly behind Sukotto.

The Kage bounced a soccer ball on his knee and shot it into an empty net. He never played soccer in his life, having been too busy training or otherwise working to engage in such foolish games. But it was different for the younger generation, who prized fun as much as they did hard work. So, why not combine the two and teach them a lesson about the beauty of natural enhancement as well? Shinichi opened a canvass bag and started distributing 3 dried honey sickles each to the winners, remnants of one of his missions. The violet plants' juices were crystallized and so the petals could be eaten for their rejuvenating effect whenever the children pleased. "Save these for when you really need them," he instructed the children, guessing that they were hungry and some of the more foolish ones might eat them right away. "Now, then, I'm sure you're all starving for a meal, especially since breakfast is such a high priority in the world of busy shinobi. So, go get some lunch and we'll meet back at the bamboo forest in exactly one hour. Don't be late." Shinichi make a tsking sound with his tongue and teeth, and shook his head at the starving brats. He always made sure to grab something in the morning. This was a health festival, after all.

When he'd finished, Shinichi scanned the large group, noting that Kane hadn't participated and that they were joined by two new kids, one who could almost be called a man. Noting Sukotto's black tomoe-tinged eyes, Shinichi remarked, "You just missed the fun, Sukotto. Tell me, what's your big project this time?" The ANBU said this as a gesture of goodwill, wanting to establish strong relations with the genin population ever since Aya stormed away in silent, cheery rage. He spotted the youth watching the children as though in deep thought, noting the reticent teen's austerity on a festival day. Physically, he resembled Ichi so much, but mentally, they couldn't be further apart. Sukotto seemed never to relax, always analyzing people to find flaws, faults, and opportunities, while his clansman tended to take people on a more relaxed, superficial basis. When it came down to it, though, both could be counted on to read and accurately judge people for their strengths and weaknesses.

Shinichi kept this fact in mind as he grinned at the teenager and went on addressing everyone else. "As always, there's food cooking at the rice farms. I'm told that Maya has generously provided the village with meat from her last hunt and there's quite a variety for you guys to feast on. So, go and enjoy your day!" There was the matter of the new blond girl. He immediately looked her over for any sign of a threat, but her clean appearance gave her the appearance of having traveled on their fishing vessel, meaning that the head fisherman had already checked her out. He trusted his judgment, at least enough to let the girl stay a little while longer while he did a more thorough background check. He eyed the singing female with a calm gaze and then professionally said, "The Rice Farms are down that path and to the east if you wanted to get something to eat, girl. Your quarters are that way. Someone will be there to show you to your room. Just follow people to get to the Bamboo Forest. The next event's not as nice as this one way, so you better get yourself into something more suitable for mud." Without another glance at her, he turned away.

Shinichi then pointed to four in the group and made a motion with his finger for them to follow him. "Serena, would you mind revealing what you learned about that monster? The day's getting hotter and I'm afraid Mr. Icy isn't too feeling too comfortable in his current condition." He flashed a cruel, wolfish smile, and then turned to the Three Miscreants. Shinichi sized them up, noting their worn down, dirty clothing and hair. "I see Maya's been working you three hard and none of you are complaining. My guess is that you wouldn't take this lunch time to actually eat and relax, but go work yourself to death someplace. Hopefully all together. Anyway, if you want to learn another of the academy jutsu, now would be a fine time. I'll go grab some lunch, get you started, then Serena and I can head down to the farms."

Orika graciously scratched Baki's ears in the spots she'd seen Maya pet him and Baki's subsequent purrs seemed to indicate he was happy enough. That was good enough for her! When Shinichi handed out pretty flowers, Orika moaned and almost regretted partnering up with Baki. Almost. Nobody else had as much fun as she did, regardless of the cool prize! She bounded over to Karite and giggled at him. "Too bad you came too late, eh? You missed all the excitement! But we'll get them next time. You're definitely my partner for the next event!" she said assertively, grabbing onto his arm and dragging the boy to Shinichi. Orika was a little hungry, but her eagerness to continue on going almost made the girl say that they didn't need food, before she remembered the tone in which Shinichi had disparaged all the non-breakfast eaters. "Can you get us something with boar? They smelled so good last night, but Maya wouldn't let us touch the meat until today!" Orika stuck her off hand in her pocket and started playing with the wire from before, but she found that though the wire was soft enough to work with, she wasn't exactly sure what to do with it. The girl pretended she was just rummaging in her pocket for something, then pulled her fingers out. She didn't want Karite to know anything! Orika licked the salt off the corners of her lips and frowned. "I don't like jutsu. Are you sure we have to learn them to graduate?" she whined, "I mean, none of them sound useful except for Henge and we already know that." At a concerned glare from Shinichi at her stupidity, Orika pouted and then finally submitted. "Fine, but I wanna learn... Nawanuke! That sounds really cool, don't you think?"

As he continued to examine and process the abilities of the younger generation, Sukotto heard the light footsteps and soft voice of a girl nearing him from behind. He raised an eyebrow and dipped his head as he allowed the music to flow into his ears. The tune that she sung was slightly sad in its tone, but had quite a beautiful melody. He began to slightly tap his foot, but ceased nearly as quickly as he had started as something instantly troubled the Uchiha. The song had captivated him as quickly as the most powerful genjutsu that had ever been cast upon him. He began to understand just how powerful a tool an opponent's senses could be in any situation. The genjutsu that had trapped him in a mirror on Haha Island had attacked the sense that nearly every Uchiha learned to rely on, their sense if sight. Sukotto wasn't sure if there were any genjutsu that attacked a shinobi's sense of hearing, but in those few moments of hearing the girl's song, he was certain that it could be turned into an effective weapon to utilize in a combat situation. The genin half-smiled and lightly shook his head as he realized that yet again, he had turned something beautiful into something deadly with his thought process. He figured that life would be much happier if he simply stopped to smell the roses instead of thinking of ways to use their thorns against an enemy.

While he began to focus on the youth once again, Sukotto heard a few thuds and then the sound of a net catching a ball. His gaze shifted to the unmistakable figure of the Kage of Shimagakure. Something about the man set him apart from any shinobi that the Uchiha had ever laid his eyes on, a unique quality that he had only ever seen in one other person, Uchiha Ichi. He hadn't figured Shinichi to be of the sort that was interested in playing sports, so the fact that he had so easily made a goal demonstrated how many different ways one's training could be applied to a person's daily life, outside of combat or life threatening situations. Sukotto had wondered if the man would address him after speaking to the younger shinobi about the events planned for the remainder of the day, and was glad to hear the Kage's voice aimed specifically at him.
"I suppose that I've let my training get in the way of enjoying life to its fullest once again. Perhaps I will check out the other events and get a bit social for a change." He looked at Shinichi and smiled back at the man, wondering if his superior had been as obsessed with training when he was Sukotto's age. He then proceeded to explain part of what was on his mind, choosing to leave out his more ambitious goals for the time being. "Oh just watching the fruits of Shimagakure grow a little riper and savoring the fact, as I'm sure you have done while observing my age group grow a little more mature day by day." Sukotto traced his gaze from Shinichi to each individual shinobi in training as he continued to speak, continuing to see a little bit of himself in each of them. "I'm looking for a sparring partner to finish the creation of the taijutsu that I've been constructing. I figured that training with a shinobi as mighty as a pride of lions would put the taijutsu through the toughest test, so I have decided to ask Maya if she would assist me."

With that said, Sukotto thought back to the beginning of his technique creation and how far it had come in such a short amount of time. It started as a way to make up for his lack of chakra and had turned itself into a valuable learning experience that greatly strengthened his mind and body. The Kage himself had even had a hand in the creation of the technique when he had assisted Sukotto in finding information about the clan from which he adopted the foundation of the fighting style. After incorporating his own philosophy into the form, Sukotto felt that it truly belonged to him and that it would assist him in many battles in the future, both against tangible enemies and the demons of his own soul. The final stage of his training would mark the end of this specific lesson, but Sukotto knew that he still had a lot of growing to go through until he was sated with his skills, ability, and above all else, the way that he lived his life.

While fun and cheerfulness was going on between the other youth of Shimagakure, Shisei had taken up residence on a stone larger than himself. He sat on the top in a position reminiscence of ‘The Thinker’ statue. His eyes remained clothes half listening to Brassa’s unnecessary chatter. “Hey, Shisei-kun I didn’t realize that big sis and that guy with the eye patch was an item. That I didn’t. You’re not pulling my leg now are ya?”. The serpent had made a brief comment of the happenings of the game when asked, but he did not delve into any detail. Whatever the gapped toothed boy wanted to hypothesize was up to him. He was aggravated now. It would have been nice to see what the uni-eyed crow would have done, but once again his shield would have to step in. Until Xyn met with an unfortunate accident or suddenly went missing, that’s how it would be. He wasn’t planning to invest anymore energy into it. Like children, they all wanted to play. So let them have their fun. The serpent youth wanted to learn jutsu. Not play games. The only irritating thing about the situation was that he had lost a benefit. It also meant that Xyn maybe a frequent guest at the Tategami Grounds. Shisei felt that he needed to find an escape in that contract. For every step forward there were two steps taken backwards. It was situation that could drive someone crazy. Yet the serpent child did not flinch in his facial features. His breath remained silent not replying to any of the questions asked by Brassa.

“Aww come on Shisei-kun. Don’t be a blooming wank so sudden. Me and you can go pull a few dames later in the day. That we can. So what do you say?”. The maverick still made no reply. His form made no sense of reaction to the chatting crow and lioness nor the singing or the male voice near the origin of the singing. A person may as well consider Shisei as a breathing statue. His white cheek was about to get poked by his homeless companion, just to get some type of reaction out of him, when Ero-sensei had stated something. At the sound of lunch Brassa almost leaped to hit a cloud. “I’ll catch you in a little bit chum. That I shall. Lunch is calling and you should never miss a meal. Shouldn’t ever. I’ll catch you up there.” the rose hair youth stated and made a quick stride up to the rice farms. The snake youth did not follow. Judging by his luck the boy would be returning sooner or later. The serpent child listened to the rest of the words of the perverted Kage and hopper before replying. “If you don’t like jutsu then don’t participate.” the loner breathed roughly to Orika. Seriously? She learned a jutsu before him? Another irritating thought. His voice then went back to the new leader. “Ero-sensei. I have proven that I can work with those two. There is no reason to keep us restricted around each other. Let those two go play with Maya-sempai and Xyn. I’m the one who wants to learn jutsu so teach me personally.” the snake child stated. His form still retained the statuette, thinking position. Because his eyes were closed he did not notice the eyes of the new genin at the training grounds….

'Well, it's about time!' Serena jumped up at Shinichi's mention of lunch and started towards the Rice Farm before he had even finished what he was saying. She was hungry, she wanted to eat, and this time, Tomoko wouldn't be there to gobble all of the food down before she arrived! Before the Raiken had any time at all to escape to the heavenly sound of food, though, Shinichi summoned her, as well as Shisei, Karite, and Orika. Why was she getting called on for? She had nothing to do with them right now..

"Monster? Eh?...Ohhh" Serena took about five seconds before she actually remembered that there was an ice monster up at the Rice Farm. She took another five seconds to remember exactly what all she had learned over at the library from Tenko. Then she took two seconds to look at the older genin with the weird eyes and then started talking, ready to share her newfound knowledge. "So, it turns that this ice monster is actually a human, you know? And his name was ahh..Mitsuki-no, Mizugi, right, his name was Mizugi. And he lived long before we were here, I think." Serena started to follow Shinichi, forgetting all about lunch. She liked to learn new things, so it was fun to tell other people about it.

"Mizugi was a great shinobi, but he feared death. So when it was about time for him to pass on, he made this jutsu that fused him with the waters of Shimagakure, which would allow him to live forever, though not in human form..." The Raiken wondered if she should slow down or keep going. The important stuff had been said, already, though. The fact that Mizugi the ice monster is actually human was pretty much the crucial part of the entire story.
