"Your vigil starts now." she cut in after a minute or so of cheering. "I will not tolerate any more rude behavior. Larksparrow, Heartpool, or Starpelt may bring you fresh-kill when they visit, or Swiftcloud, and I may check on the kits from time to time. You may only speak briefly to other cats when you go out to make dirt- do not leave the den for any other reason for the next three days." Moonstar turned to Tuxedopelt, Phantomgaze, Plumpaw, and Darkpaw. "Say good-bye now. Ebonyheart needs her rest more than anything."
Darkpaw had cheered louder than Larksparrow, as if trying to prove something.

Ebonyheart gave Moonstar an odd look. Why was she insisting on this? The only cats she had ever had any problems with were Darkpaw, Foxtrot, and at times Moonstar. Her ears dropped a bit, at least Swiftcloud would be there and Larksparrow, but the whole thing seemed to be taking a bit of the excitement out of the moment for her.
"Forgive me for saying Moonstar , but shouldn't we make a nest for her vigil outside before leaving?" Tuxedopelt insisted. This tradition at least should not be broken and part of the deal to doing the ceremony today was that it wasn't to cold for the kits to be outside. Even Tuxedopelt felt that was a little harsh, special since the only time Ebonyheart got heated was with three cats alone. He had never had her speak harshly to him, nor had she ever gotten rude with Larksparrow. Moonstar was leader though and she must have some reasoning behind it.

"Ebonyheart! Ebonyheart!" Plumpaw was about to pop with excitement. All the uncertainty and unhappiness seemed to flee Ebonyheart's form in the moment of her naming. The very air tingled with StarClan's presence, for surely they were watching; even the kits were miraculously quiet. Then the moment passed, and Moonstar's voice rang instructions into the den.
Even her insistence that they leave did not dull Plumpaw's joy. He stepped forward to lick her forehead, purring loudly. "Congrats, sis." he beamed. "You'll be a great warrior!"
He backed up in order to look down at Dawnkit. He swept his tail over the kit's back, affectionate and sorry that they couldn't stay together a while longer. "G'bye, brave little friend. Don't get into too much trouble." The tom paused thoughtfully. "If you have to, do it tonight. Your mom won't be able to scold you." he said in a mock-whisper, flashing a playful grin at Ebonyheart.
Only when he had left the nursery and was safe in the darkness of the apprentice den, did the feeling fade away. Plumpaw tucked his tail over his nose, his eyes squeezed shut unhappily. Why couldn't they all be happy? Why did this misery have to come in the happiest time of Ebonyheart's life - her warrior ceremony and the birth of her first kits? It wasn't fair. It just wasn't.
