Opening his door to thank the person who had brought him alcohol, he was disappointed to find the person gone, and the bottle on the blood-stained table. He took the bottle and put it with the rest of the supplies and returned to his quarters, leaving the door open this time.

*Wandering into the Medical Deck, he comes to find the good doctor.*

"Ah, doctor... I hoped I'd find you here. Look, about going into port. I forewarn you now... sailors, as you must know, are notorious for their tavern fights. It's going to be a very busy time for you. Every late night will be filled with bandaging. I just thought I'd let you know. Ms. Nyssa, being your nurse shall help attend to the needs of the wounded if your not availalbe. Well, I'll be off. Have a good day Mr. Baxter."

"Yes, leave it to the drink to turn a group of otherwise grown men into children."

Dr. Baxter continued his preparations for going ashore

Taking the suggestion of the Captain, he began to ready the operating room for patients. pouring some alcohol in bowl for sanatization purposes, pouring some sand on the floor so that he might keep traction on the floor, as well as to soak up blood. He opened and ordered all of his new tools he had just acquired from the now doomed port town.

Dr. Baxter opened the door to his quarters.
"You can store your case in their Doctor. Over here is the area that I have set up as an operating area. Sand is already on the floor and everything is laid out ready for use."

Following Baxter into the room, Dr. Morgan looks around. He suddenly feels very much at home.

"Well, 'en. Ye 'ave quite nice quart'r 'ere, an' all looks tae be ready. 'ow be yer ins'rumen's?"

He walks over and examines the sparkling new tools. He picks up a scalpel, examines it for a moment, then sets it down with a look of impressed satisfaction.

"I shouldnae stay 'ere, I'd be gettin' too comf'table am'ng these things, an' I needs tae be on edge jes' a bit if'n I 'ope tae survive this battle. I be 'eaded back top, if'n ye wish tae join me ye'd be more'n welcome tae."

Setting his case down out of the way, he opens the door and makes his way back to the deck.

Having gotten all of the most serious ones aboard, Dr. Baxter set to work. Unfortunately for one man, He had been stirred back to conciousness while being brought aboard and was now screaming with agony. Dr. Baxter produced one of his private bottles he had purchased before the attack began and filled a mug with some of the contents. He then forced the lad to drink it in an attempt to numb the pain.

He then set to work on the most seriously wounded. Apparantly, one of the towns defensive guns had put a round into one of the wooden docks. This lad caught quite a few large pieces of the dock embedded in his neck and chest. His one leg was also badly mangled and would not be able to be saved. He had already put a turniquette on the leg to stop bleeding while he was on the beach. Now he grabbed a bone saw and proceeded to cut the now useless portion free from the rest of the leg. He had heard tales of a a doctor in London being able to cut through a limb in 22 seconds. He was nowhere near as fast though. It took him roughly a minute and a half to sever the useless leg above the knee. Although it was not common practice, he also took the time to individually tie off each vein and artery that fed the leg. He remembered reading in a recent book that doing so increases your patient's odds for survival. He then proceeded onto the delicate task of removing all of the splinters from this man's body.

He removed each chunk of wood as carefully and quickly as he could. After removing each piece he had to remove and pieces of clothing or other foreign objects and then stop any bleeding before he could stitch that area up. As he was pulling the last piece from the neck, blood shot out of the wound and sprayed a crimson streak across his face. He quickly put pressure on it to hold back the bleeding. He carefully reached into the wound with his finger and thumb to find the artery that was pumping so much blood. He pinched it off with his fingers. and then grabbed a clamp and pushed that into the wound to clamp it off so that he could sew the artery back together. He then carefully repaired the damaged artery and cautiously removed the clamps... the blood was flowing through it, and it wasn't bleeding into the wound so he had successfully stitched it back together. He then finished cleaning out the wound and stitched it together. He put a heavy bandaging on the leg. This lad would have a difficult choice in the future. He could either have a wooden plank attached into his stub, or he could be given a crutch. It would depend on what he wanted once he recovered.

((Yeah, I know... I have to do it all the time. Only, in a more Nautical sense.))

((You should try doing it for a whole island, especially when you don't know the entire history. I have to deal with five groups, and none of them are cooperating in my head. They're having battles, and not the sort I want. BTW, good luck Dr. Baxter.))

Dr. Baxter got one of the few remaining crew members to help him transport this man to his bunk. He then surveyed the remaining wounded. He felt the throat of the next in line.

"Dammit..."

He searched the man's pockets and produced a letter:

Byron Clydesdale
My deerrest Anne,

As you can see, my reeding and riting lessons are going well. The Captan has been very kind to learn me how to rite so that I can talk with yuo. Soon I shall have enuff gold so that I might propose to you and ask yur hand in marage. I'll be able to buy a home and a nice ring four you. I hope are sun is well. He shall become a strong man one day, hopefully better than his papa. We are at shore at Toulon rite now, after we are done here, we are to return home so that I mite see you once more. I hope this not finds you in good health and spirit. I luv you very much.

Forever yurs,
Byron.

Dr. Baxter placed his hands on his chest, and he placed the letter under them. He then found a sheet and covered him over. Dr. Baxter had never been a very religious man; that must be the price for being a doctor. He still stood up, bowed his head, and did his best to say a little prayer to hope the lad would be seen safely to the otherside.

He then picked his head up and went back to the task of seeing to the final lad that he had brought back with him.
