Dude, I'm just sayin,' seriously, I'm not an artist. I'm not hesitating to call myself or not call myself anything. I know what I am.
I am a self-taught hobbyist. I just happen to be particularly balls-to-the-walls. I worked hard doing a lot of the things that kids in art school do, but without the advantage of a mentor.
Because of that, I do appreciate the things one learns in art school. I may never go, but I dig hearing about it from friends. I pick up those crumbs of knowledge when they come my way.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the stance that art is a purely expressive form, but I don't think there's anything wrong with not having that stance, either - and one of them is decidedly more practical than the other.
I don't want people to expect something life-changing from me every time I draw a picture. I just like s**t that looks cool, and my vision of 'cool' is different than a lot of people's vision of 'cool', so who else is going to put it out there but me? That's what it boils down to, for me. It's not this incredibly cerebral thing. It's just - oh, that's cool. I'm going to draw that and I'm going to do it to the best of my ability.

im just saying
i loathe taught artists and people who think going to school for art is where its at
im choosing to live art, thank you very much ;}

any body can call themselves a artist like its already been so eloquently pointed out.
but the question is
Are you arting hard to make a livin with it, or are you simply artin hard cause its a nice distraction....
