A couple of weeks? Rachel's hopes for an early return home were dashed with this statement. Nodding in acknowledgement, she sighed and followed Victor into the elevator, eager for the day to just be over. At least now she could be alone for a little while. Once the elevator reached the bottom, she walked with Victor from the building, to the jeep that would take them to their new homes.

A small sigh was audible from the girl sitting in the helicopter. Her forehead pressed to the glass window, she watched the unmoving water below. Not so much as a single boat was below. Interesting, just that never-ending blue mass. Occationally, a white crest appeared to break up the monotony of it all.

Eventually, she settled back in her seat. Headphones pressed deep into her ears, she sighed and closed her eyes. This sure had been a long trip. First, there had been the plane ride, and then she found out the island was too remote to get to by anything but helicopter. She knew Maryke had good taste, so she wasn't concerned about the island itself. It was just the distance that was getting to her. Maryke had really fled this far to escape everything. Alexa couldn't help but to think that the madam had been escaping her as well.

Thinking back, their whole relationship played in slow motion before her closed eyelids. That one night in the rain, the night they'd fought, made love. It stung to think about, but it was all so real to her. Tipping off the FBI... and look where that had gotten them. Maryke had to flee to the end of the earth to escape them, and now Alexa had no choice but to follow!

Yes, she had been out of options. She'd exhausted every hiding place possible. She was about to fly back to New York under an alias and hide in the filth of her home town. And then that sweet letter had appeared one morning in the madam's mailbox. Addressed specifically to Alexa. Maryke was sorry for running off like she did, she knew the FBI was still after her second in command, and she wanted her to come and hide with her.

It seemed perfect. This meant Maryke wasn't mad at her anymore. They might actually be able to be normal around eachother again. Granted it could never be an actual relationship, no matter how much her heart yearned for it, but it could be normal.

She opened her eyes again, listening to the whir of the rotors above her head. The pilot was quiet to the point where he was slightly offputting. She shrugged it off. She didn't need to talk to him over the blare of her music anyway. She pressed her forehead to the glass again, watching a simply stunning island come into view. She held her breath, looking at the beautiful beaches, lush thick jungle, and village situated in the cradle of a mountain. Maryke hadn't lied! This place really was a paradise! She began to gather her things more closely to her, knowing they would be landing soon.

Here I am, Maryke.

There was a Jeep waiting for her when the helicopter landed. They were wearing a tan uniform and armed to the teeth - rifles across their chest, knives at their belt and holders on their ankles. When the helicopter landed, the pilot wordlessly got out and started depositing her luggage into the Jeep.

"Are you Ms. Summers?" one of the guards asked over the deafening sound of the rotors, holding out his hand to her to help her exit the aircraft. "Come this way, please."

The landing was smooth to the point of being flawless. She would have applauded, had he not jumped out and taken her luggage to the jeep outside. She stood from her seat, moving to the door and looking out curiously for a moment or two. Setting her sunglasses over her eyes, she inspected the two (rather handsome) guards.

She took his hand and slipped daintily to the ground. "Yeah," she called over the noise, "That's me." She wanted to take a moment to look around, but didn't have time to with the rotors still swinging above her head. Ducking slightly, she followed the guard.

Upon her decent, both the guards made a point to look her over from head to toe and exchange approving glances. The first one led her to the Jeep and opened the door for her, helping her in. One in the drivers seat and one in the back, they started back off towards the labs.

The guards were quiet, though they stole glances whenever given the oppurtunity. The ride was through a thick, impressive jungle. It was beautiful, but hot and humid. Though it wasn't raining, trapped water in the leaves of the canopy gave that impression regardless.

However, once cleared from the jungle wall, juxposed against a large volcanic mountain in the middle of the island, was an expansive corperate building. The grey exterior had a large "Feral Laboratories" logo on the side. They approached the lobby through a series of guarded gates, solid mirrored glass panels didn't seem to have any external handles or locks.

A woman came out to meet them, automatic doors sliding open at her approach. The woman was tall, wearing a labcoat, khaki skirt, and a red shirt that barey concealed a pregnant belly.

Alexa could see them giving her the once over through her dark shades, and a single arched eyebrow was the only recognition she gave them. She slipped into the jeep and clipped the buckle in, leaning over the door when the guard closed it. She gave them many a chance to steal a peek at her body, considering how she positioned herself so casually to expose as much as possible without being obvious.

The jungle was beautiful. She watched the foliage roll by them as they moved along the road. This place certainly was exotic! Exotic and remote as well! It was the perfect combination. She listened for bird calls and the like, and found the hot humid air soothing but heavy on her body. Once they emerged, she studied the village she'd seen previously from the air. The building they were heading towards was certainly official looking. The guards that were escorting her didn't seem to know much about where they were going, so she waited until they were out of the jeep to really ask.

When the pregnant woman appeared, Alexa was curious but kept her mouth shut. She assumed that this woman would tell her more about why she was here, but she wasn't about to wait around. "Hi," she started, stepping out of the jeep. "What is this place?"

"Dr. Lockheart, nice to meet you," she woman said, holding out her hand to shake it.

She led her inside the plush lobby and started towards the elevators. "This island is owned by a research facility. Well, we use it as a research facility, but its a private island owned by Dr. Nicholas Moreau, CEO of Feral Labs. Since its private property, its very well hidden to... prying eyes. Maryke loves it, she's been enjoying herself immensely. Its really a place to start your life over."

Aubrey gave her an encouraging smile as the elevator doors slid open. "However, since it is a tropical location, we do require a few vaccinations and a medical file. That's not a problem, is it?"

Alexa took the extended hand, giving it a firm, bold shake. "Alexa Summers... but I assume you already knew." She offered, then turned to follow her into the lobby. The lobby was impressive, and smelled clean and professional like most big buildings in NYC had smelled. It certainly was a nice layout. She followed her towards the elevators.

"I can see why he'd hide it..." she mused, still taking in the surroundings but being careful to place her shades just so on her head. "And why Maryke would enjoy it. It looks expensive." This last part was more to herself than to the other woman.

Vaccinations and medical files? That seemed reasonable to her. She didn't want to get some horrible disease, afterall. If she was going to be spending months here like Maryke had been, they'd need a record of her medical history so they could treat her accordingly. "No, that's not a problem at all. Better save than sorry." She remembered all too vividly the movies of infectous viruses she'd seen in her biology classes in high school and college. Ew. Definitely not for her.

"Perfect," she said with a smile.

She leaned against the elevator wall as they made their way up several floors. "You'll be given a residense," she said, "Yours to use if you want it. Of course Maryke has one as well, so... if comes to where you don't need your own, please let us know. Space is limited here."

She let a small, devious smile play on her lips.

Alexa stood in the corner of the elevator--a nervous habit--and watched Aubrey curiously. How did she know about them? They weren't even together, per say. Alexa had just moved in because she needed a place to stay and liked it a lot better than her dorm. But maybe Maryke had mentioned something to this Aubrey that Alexa didn't know yet. Maybe this was a surprise.

Afterall, it was Valentine's Day. She didn't think twice about space being limited. It was a remote, privately owned island for research and relaxation, as far as she was concerned. It made perfect sense. She did, however, not the devious smile on Aubrey's lips, and raised a brow slightly. Alexa wanted in on the secrets, but she kept her mouth shut about it.

"I will let you know. I trust the residence is nice? Maryke would have no less than perfection at any cost with these sorts of places." She waited, eyes somewhat calculating, as if she was sizing up this Aubrey character. She wasn't sure if she should trust her or not. Not completely, anyway. But then again, Maryke might've hired her to act this way to cover up what she was planning. Alexa was excited on the inside.

"They're nice for jungle bungalos," s he said with a roll of her shoulders. The elevator opened up into a large lab and Aubrey's heels clicked loudly on the tile floor.

There was a file laying open on the desk and Aubrey patted the tabl next to her, indicating for Alexa to sit.

"This should only take a minute, then the guards will escort you to your duplex. You'll be in 12. Maryke's is 56 if you want to see her. I hope you do. Tell her its my little VDay present from me, Aubrey." She gave a wink, which was meant to be good natured but came off looking rather shady.

She took the young woman's arm and gave the upper arm a good swabbing.

Alexa nodded in approval, following her. The click was familiar and somewhat comforting. It reminded her of Maryke. She wore only flip flops, so they clacked up against her heels with each step. She took a seat on what appeared to be a normal examining table.

There was something fishy about what Aubrey said. Maryke had written to the younger girl inviting her to come. Maybe it was just so exclusive that Aubrey had to give it the okay. "Alright, I'll be sure to tell her. Thanks for making it possible." She said, offering her a genuine smile. She could feel the twinge in the wink Aubrey offered, but pushed her feelings aside. Perhaps she was just strange. They hadn't known eachother for more than a few minutes, so she couldn't really say one way or the other.

The alcohol swab was cold against her arm, and she shivered a bit, looking around the somewhat impersonal, sterile room. Well, after this was done she could go see Maryke. Duplex 56, she made a mental note. And hers was 12. She couldn't wait to see her. The excitment continued to build up as she watched Aubrey carefully, making sure she was doing everything correctly. The last thing she wanted was an amateur sticking her with a needle. She assumed, especially by the white lab coat, that she knew what she was doing, so she relaxed her muscles voluntarily and let out a sigh.

Aubrey peirced the skin, causing a shudder and a warm tingling down her arm. "I just need some blood, too," she said with a nod, pulling out an empty vile out and prepared to remove a sample from her arm.

"And all the duplexes have a intercom, you can reach us at any time. We do whatever we can to accommodate."

She finally pulled out the file and indicated that she could get up. "And of course, since this is a research facility, we do ask for your absolute confidentiality for everything you see. That... won't be a problem, will it?" Though she was smiling, the words were not a question.

Alexa shivered at the sensation, watching the needle as Aubrey worked. At least now she would be protected from things. She listened to her words sort of half-heartedly, feeling the warm tingle spread up her arm. Upon indication, she got up without a hitch. The last thing she said struck Alexa as sort of creepy, but she nodded silently, rubbing at the injection mark on her arm, trying to work the sensation away.

"Then you're done. Mr. Brigs will lead you to you duplex," she said, opening the doors to the labs and indicating a guard waiting. "Please, just ask for Dr. Lockheart if you need anything."

She shook her hand and smiled warmly, nodded her goodbye.
