Emelyn didn't quite understand what he meant by potential- but it raised a bit of a red flag in the back of her mind. ...As much as she loved flattery, and as comfortable as she was in these surroundings- this man had never met her before, and she'd only had very minimal contact with those who were purportedly his underlings. Otherwise, she may have believed that they'd passed on information on her to this Dr. Moreau.

She raised an eyebrow, and rested one of her delicate fingers across her lips, a vertical reminder that she should listen before opening her mouth- and also a sort of silent barrier that let others know that her guard was up. She didn't respond verbally, but nodded and kept her expression even and her eyes fixed on him.

Lauren crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, "Hmm, I came here for answers and I don't want to leave with lies. Can't promise I will understand but I can try." She hoped that there wouldn't be much medical jargon involved.

"PSHHAW! Of course I have the most potential!" In her opinion, the people that she had met so far had seemed fairly... pathetic. She didn't know about this Emelyn person however. I mean look at those goggles. She couldn't help putting things through her mind as to what the goggles meant, why she wore them.

She pictured Emelyn flying a plane and crashing on the island. Or maybe she was like a female James, Moreau's future pilot? Another addition to his help.

Well if she was a pilot how in the hell was Thorn going to help him out? All she could do was lift things. Steal from the inhabitants? She wondered if the pilot lady carried any cash.

Then she realised she was indeed daydreaming again and tried to pay attention to what was really going on.

"Working with Dr. Moreau is truely an amazing experience," she said, looking adoringly over to him, a dream-like look in her eyes. "Seriously, I consider myself the luckiest woman in the world to be working so up close and personal with him." OKay, that was a pun, obviously, but Aubrey just smiled to herself.

"Well, you may or may not understand that this facility is a medical testing facility." Moreau nodded solemly at this fact.

"I understand that in a way, both of you were in dire straits and I feel priveledged to help you. I was happy that we were able to save your life that night Emelyn and Thorn, well, I hated to see a kid with such potential stuck on the streets." Moreau smiled sincerly to both of them, or atleast what appeared sincere.

"That being said, both of you are part of the experiement. I'm here to ask your understanding, we are trying to change the world. To help people, like my cousin who thanks to my help has just started to recover her hearing. It's my only true desire." Moreau sighed.

"But because of the top secret nature, I cannot allow people off the island. What I offer in exchange should be tempting enough." Moreau smiled slyly. "Anything you want, within my power of course. Of course you'll be able to work and communicate with me more than your fellow islanders."

Emelyn's hand dropped to the table, and the other, which had lay prone in her lap, leapt into the air as if bidden by the collapse of the other.

"Wait a moment... when you said 'you're part of the experiment'... what did you mean by that? What sort of experiment is it?" As honeyed as his words were- and oh yes, Moreau knew how to charm- that enough was evident... 'helping mankind' didn't pull a blind over her eyes as to the possibility that she may just be a guinea pig.

Hmm... now she was a lab monkey... nice. Well she did get herself into this mess but never being allowed off the island?

She thought of her life in the past, on the streets she was lucky enough to make it a year. These past couple of days, as confusing as they were, had been the easiest and happiest she has had for a long time.

And she had no real friends.

But still a lab monkey? What kind of direction was that? But then again what kind of direction was she going on the streets?
Her mind was tossing and turning so much she appeared very uncomfortable and totally confused.

"I'm offering to make this island a home for you both. To do my best for you, give you positions if you so wish it and to allow you a bit more, luxerious than other people may be given." Moreau looked at each of them for reactions, so far they had been rather quiet.

"I understand if this is a tough offer to make, and tougher still to deal with. But I want to make your life here an improvement and to make your... difficulties be minimized." Moreau looked sincere and a little sad himself.

Emelyn rubbed a point on her forehead, attempting to stamp out a pinpoint of pressure that was developing there.

"That's all well and good, Dr- and I hope I'm not coming across as rude, but what exactly are you doing here? And how are we a part of these experiments?" She didn't want to say it aloud- but the subtext was... am I going to be hurt? And why the hell can't I leave the island. It hadn't been lost on her that Moreau had essentially told her... she was trapped. And for a creature of the world, such as herself, the idea of being locked up in one location made her... lightheaded, and anxious.

Doc seemed a little concerned for her, but she had learned that no one was needed. She had plenty chances to go to group homes to stay until she was comfortable, but she never fit into the real world.
"Yeah, what are ya getting us into?" She asked hopeing that he would just spit it out. He seemed to be dancing around something that didn't seem quite right.

But maybe... it did.

Geese, so confusing. She hated making decisions like this.

"Well, the experiment, one that I have done everything to test and make completely safe, is to combine human and animal DNA." Moreau's eyes shinned.

"Think of it, you'll be able to do things no human can, experience things that they can never know." Moreau smiled. "And of course, as said, if you work with me and act cooperatively be treated to creature comforts."

"Perhaps attempt to create an enviroment of friends... or more so, even a family." Moreau's expressive face turned sincere again. "I just want to help you. Give you things to keep you busy. Many of your fellow islanders hate me already."

Her first reaction was that this man was insane- no one can splice animal and human DNA, it's preposterous. But she was ashamed to admit to herself that a part of her believed him, and was terrified at the thought of being... changed.

"So what animal DNA have we received?" Emelyn said, still skeptical, but not wanting to bring up that doubt with the Dr.... lest he have other things hidden under his sleeve. "I assume that's what the... vaccinations were about?"

Thorn started cracking up. Maybe she really was a lab monkey or a Guinea pig and didn't even know it.
But the idea seemed... FUN!
She hoped that she was injected with lion DNA, or maybe panther DNA! Oooh she could be really tall and be injected with giraffe DNA.

And then she sat laughing at the images in her head. The Dude was going to turn into something and she wondered what. Perhaps a sloth?
"So what am I doc... tell me!!" She seemed a bit excited but it was mostly in the, I think your lying but I will humor you kind of way.

"Well, you Emelyn, have been injected with Hedgehog DNA. Thorn, well... Yellow Mongoose." Moreau smiled.

"Both amazingly interesting animals, that should gift you with abilities and instincts that you should find interesting." Moreau paused. "Of course as I said, I don't want to make this miserable for you. You both are such interesting people and would do so well working here."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 03, 2005 11:42 pm

...The pause was a pregnant one, and filled with that unique feeling of mingled fear and skepticism.

"So I'm going to be a hedgehog? ...Interesting." As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she realized that she was angry, under the surface- and humoring this man just wasn't going to cut it. He could put her in a fancy dress and parade her into a room filled with beautiful antiques and works of art... but it was going to be a cold day in hell if he thought he could buy her over with any of it.

"I'm sorry, Doctor... but this just isn't the sort of thing that I want to be involved in. I suggest you give me the... antidote, or whatever it is, so I can go about my merry way." She dropped both hands down onto the tablecloth, resolutely. "I'm not going to be sticking around for your little 'family zoo'."

Of course Emelyn had to choose the out. Thorn was going to choose the out but she had already taken it. She couldn't go and follow someone she didn't really know. She also couldn't go and take the offer.
"Well Doc my price is high." She said. Mongoose, he was killing her but if he actually believed it and was giving her things because he was a nut then she could deal with his eccentricities. Hell she could deal with a lot with how much he could afford.

She pictured having her own air hockey table in her room, maybe a cat too. Or an actual Moose! She wondered if a Moose could live in the tropics but immediately decided that no, she didn't want to clean up after a moose.

A yellow mongoose. What in the hell was that? She had read Riki Tiki Tavi in Elementary school and knew they were vicious against snakes.

Sounded small though.... someone normally doesn't tear at you like a mongoose. It's usually a lion, or a bear.

She continued laughing. "Sure Doc, if you pay me I will turn into any animal you want me to." She obviously didn't believe him.
