A few minutes later, all four flits were satiated and sleeping, draped all over Chaeren's person.
"Good grief! And I though feeding a dragonet was hard!" she said and laughed, looking a little tired from all the excitement. It was then that Basa began to chirp hungrily. The dragon rider rolled her eyes and sighed and proceeded to feed him as well, though at a slower pace than she had the newer hatchlings.
As she did so, she turned to Talon and smiled gratefully.
"Thank you so much for all your help Talon. I really can't thank you enough." she said. "Was the ride down okay? No trouble with the straps or anything?" she asked him as she popped another bit of meat into her flits mouth as he perched on her shoulder, mouth open to recieve more food.

He chuckled remembering all the stories from the old candiates who recently impressed. Dragonet's were bottomless pits as far as they were concerned. "It was great!" He said his eyes sparkling with amazement. "I think I figured them out alright... or at least I think I did." He said watching her feed Basa. It reminded him that he needed to take care of his little firelizards, who were out probably trying to sun themselves like the dragons.

Chaeren chuckled and said "Well, you didn't fall off, and that's the important part!"
As if to signal that he was full, Basa burped and chirped in a satisfied fashion. He looked around sleepily and then launched himself from Chaerens shoulder and drifted lazily out onto the sunning ledge where the much larger dragon was already sunning herself. He chirped a greeting and landed on the rock next to the dragons head and stretched himself out and promptly fell alseep.

Yersith Half opened one eye and looked at the lizard before snorting lightly and closing her eye again.

Chaeren watched the two and laughed before turning back to the boy.
"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. That was probably your first time alone a-dragonback wasn't it?"

He laughed, "Yeah, I would say so." He watched as Basa headed towards the ledge and found a spot next to Yersith. He was glad he had the opprotunity to help out Chaeren, he doubted that any other candidate ever had the chance to sit astride a dragon and then fly down through the Weyr Bowl. He decided that this was a story his friends would not hear about, mainly because they would never believe him. He could hear their comments now, What Dragonrider in their right mind would allow a candidate, Talon nonetheless, ride their dragon? Talon that's the most ridicilous thing you've ever come up with! He grinned and chuckled to himself. He then looked up to her with a nod, "Why of coarse it was!" He said with another burst of enthusiasm.

"I'll bet none of your friends can claim to have done the same thing. Well, not truthfully." she said with a wink and a laugh.
"But really, thank you so much for all your help." the woman said, smiling brightly once more. "I'm glad the first person I met here at the Weyr was such a nice one." she said with a firm nod.
The rider began shifting flits off of her person and onto the warm bag of sand so that they wouldn't notice the difference right away and wake up. THe woman stood and stretched.
"Well, you've helped me, so is there anything you would like in return?" she asked earnestly.

He nodded and smiled, "Trust me, helping you out today was much better than chores or sitting around the Weyr Bowl all day. I'm glad I could help you." He watched her move the flits onto the warm bag of sand. He listened to her question, thought about it, but then shook his head. "No... not really." He replied, everything was good as it was. He didn't have much trouble in the Weyr unless he was the one making it. He had everything he could ask for... the only exception to that would be a dragon. But that was something that couldn't be given, it was something he had to earn.

"Really?" she asked dubiously. "I feel bad for not returning the favor..." Chaeren's face suddenly lit up and she smiled down at Talon.
"I know! How about we go for a dragon ride together? At least let me do that." the woman said sincerely. "I don't think i can really take you anywhere, but I dont' think anyone would object to a quick ride over the land around the Weyr." she said and winked.

Talon was sure his jawdropped at her idea. "Really?" He couldn't believe what his ears just heard. He just kinda stared at her dumbfounded before he relized she wouldn't lie about something like that. He gave a quick nod of his head. "That would be great, I mean.. Thank you!" The words seemed to jump from his mouth all at once.

Chaeren couldn't help but laugh at the boy's open mouthed stare at her offer.
"Of course I mean it! Now come on, lets go get Yersith up and moving." she said and grinned. the woman walked out onto the ledge and nudged her bronze firelizard with one foot. He chirped a protest and climbed up her leg and body until he made it to her shoulder and yawned sleepily.
"Basa, I want you to stay here with the others okay? come get me if something happens or someone comes okay?" she said, impressing her will on his mind so he wouldn't forget. Basa chirped his agreement and drifted inside and settled down on the bed.
'Okay love, time to get up. I want to take Talon for a ride as thanks.' she told her dragon mentally as she walked forward and stroked her shoulder as she did so to help wake her up.

'I know, And i knew you would want' to thank him. I told him so.' she said and got to her sleep with a single heave. The green stretched almost cat like and shook out her wings as she rolled her shoulders to work out any cramps she had in the muscles.
'I am ready.' she said and looked back at the pair of humans expectantly.

"Okay, she's ready, just let me check her straps real quick to make sure they're still in place." she said to talon and proceeded to check the many straps on her dragons harness.
"Okay, we're good to go." she said with a grin to the candidate boy and with a jump she was atop the dragons back and strapping herself in. Once she had herself secured she reached one hand down to help the boy get up behind her.

He followed Chaeren out towards the ledge, he had grown very fond Yersith. While Chearen checked out the gear he stroked the scalely hide. "Thank you; both of you, you don't know how much this means to me." He studied how Chearen mounted and then grabbed her hand to sit behind her. He hoped that one day he would be sitting astride his own dragon companion. He didn't care what color.. sure a bronze would be nice, but so would a brown or a green as well as a blue.

"Think nothing of it. I like you, you're alot better than most of the candidate back at benden. They were all rather full of themselves." she said and rolled her eyes at the memories.
"I just know you'll impress. Yersith wouldn't have spoken to you if she didn't think the same." Chaeren said with a grin as she helped him up behind her. She turned halfway in her seat and helped him strap in. She placed his arms around her waist and told him to hold on.
"Alright Yeristh, lets go!" she called to her mount

Yersith promptly launched herself into the air, magnificent green wings beating to gain altitude until she was able to catch a thermal. She made for the opposite side of the weyr from where the queens mating flight was going on. She flew quickly and with a purpose. No way did the green want to get caught by the queen. Soon though she slowed her pace as she was an acceptable distance away from the mating flight. She drifted effortlessly, beating her wings every so often to catch a thermal as they flew over dense forest, the ocean visible in the distance ahead of them. The light of the sun glinted off the oceans blue surface, making parts of it appear white. The female rider was glad she'd taken the time to braid her hair earlier when Talon had gone to fetch the flit food else it'd be in his face in a most annoying way. As it was, the boy and the rider had a clear view of the surrounding area.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" she commented to the boy behind her as he grey eyes took in the sites.

He appreciated her words, it gave him a lot more confidence. He put his arms around her waist and he heard her words call out to Yersith. Then before he could have blinked once the green dragon pushed off. When he saw them turn he suddenly remembered about the Queen's flight. That was the main reason he attempted to skip his chores, he knew most of the riders would go to watch, so he had a less likely chance of getting caught. He watched as they glided over the dark forest. In the distance the water shimmered like a piece of gold. It was beautiful, "Yeah!" He nearly had to yell just so that she could hear him over the wind that rushed over them.

The trio flew lazily, catching thermals here and there until they were quite some ways from the weyr. They had been happily flying for quite some time when Chaeren noted the time as the sun began to sink into the horizon.
"It's getting late, so we're gonna go ahead and turn around." she called back Talon.

Yersith caught her message and turned and began to head back for the Weyr. The dragon decided that she liked her new home. The day had certainly been eventful, and the first person she had met her had been a kind one. Yersith truly was sure that Talon would impress one of the eggs sitting out on the sands right now, it was her dragon sense for that kind of thing that all of her kind had. Greens and blues had been noted for the strongest sense though, hence why they were often sent on search.

Talon could barely heard her words, but he caught what she meant when Yersith began to turn around. He looked out at the horizon, the sun was being swallowed up as it sunk deeper and deeper into the ground. He wished they could keep going, but they were right it was getting late. The rest of the candidates no doubt probably realized Talon's dissapearance and started to search after him once the chores were finished. He chuckled to himself imagining what they were saying when they found out that he was nowhere to be found. Lucky for him, they would be used to him now and wouldn't panick if he missed Dinner with the rest of the candidates.
