No. Kaoru asked Haruhi out, and then pretended to be sick so Hikaru would go. Kaoru wanted Hikaru to spends some time away from him(Kaoru) and maybe possible mature a little. That's why it was such a big thing at the end of the episode when Hikaru was in the church with Haruhi during the thunderstorm. He put her feelings above his own, and helped her. It was a sign of him maturng a litle bit.
