technically though, Zeon's new mobile suits would have been either the Gelgoog or the Gyan. They chose the Gelgoog becuase of its mobility and versatility. The Gyan was a melee based mobile suit for space use only, which really didn't make alot of sense, IMO

The Gyan was developed by M'Quve, who believed melee combat, or "hand-to-hand" was the "gentleman's way" to fight. His design was of course, rejected, in favor of the multi-purpose Gelgoog, but one unit was still made to his specifications and piloted by himself.
I think the two of you also forget the hybrid, "Galbaldy" mobile suit, which was designed to fight alongside the Gelgoog. Only thing was, Zeon lost the war before it could be rushed into production, with only a handful being made and later destroyed. The plans, however, were captured and modified by the Federation into the "Galbaldy Beta", as seen in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
