"Ah... I see," Lore nodded.

Well at least Elnara didn't have to worry about that, he couldn't imagine her as a future queen. Not to say she wouldn't be good at it, but she seemed to be more down to earth. Not to say royalty were not, it was just hard to keep that in perspective when one was here.

He smiled at her comment though, he was glad, that she thought he was worth it.

"All of your favourite places," Earendil grinned, knowing what she meant. "But if you want to go up the mountain, you have to climb it yourself," he added with a chuckle. "No freebies. Besides, you want to do that to train yourself, right?"

Daeron chuckled and rose from his seat. "I have to finish this," he told the others, picking up his papers and quill and tucking them under one arm, "so I'm going to leave you now. But I'm going to see if I can't find Nara-thel before I head up to my study. See you all later."

He bowed his head to their guests and grinned, "Nice to meet all of you, and I'm sure we'll run into each other again!", then left the room.

"Ruel is indeed pleased," Atalya smiled, "though ... sometimes I have to wonder just how pleased. She disappeared with Daeron when she was only nine years old to go visit your mother ... and Ruel was frightfully upset. I suppose he had reason, but ... his attitude has kept him at odds with both of his sons, and I'm afraid there is room for improvement in their relationship."

Storm looked at Starr. "That sounds like when we wanna do something bad," he told her.

"You mean, when you want to do something bad," Starr corrected her twin, waving to Daeron as he left the room. "Not me."

Ignoring her, Storm looked up at Earendil and Lin. "What place you talking about?" he asked curiously. "What mountain?" He paused. "And what is a mountain?"

Elnara lowered her eyes self-consciously. She had a distinct feeling that she knew what their argument had been over. Daeron after all had loved Elnara and Triton when they had been there, and Ruel had been one of her most vocal dissenters, even before they had discovered that she was a shapeshifter. She could only imagine how much less he would tolerate her now.

"See you then!" Lin waved excitedly at Daeron as he left.

She grinned from ear to ear, even if she couldn't make it up the mountain it would be fun trying. There was still the issue of her small size, but it would just get... maybe several hours.

"Good!" she looked back at Storm, "A mountain is like a very, very, very, very tall hill, only steeper, taller and rockier.... oh and bigger."

Lore gently squeezed her hand, she didn't seem pleased, though he couldn't imagine why. Of course he did not know the whole story between her and her family so.

"I guess that would take time, at least he does have a relationship with his sons," Lore murmured, "So there's always a good chance of improvement."

Well he wasn't so sure about that, but as long as this Ruel hadn't enstrangled himself from his sons because of that difference there was hope.

Atalya smiled painfully as she watched Lore and Elnara. "I suppose we'll find out if it's possible," she murmured. She focused once again on Lore and explained, "You see, my grandsons - some of them, anyways - have an aversion to anything or anyone who is different. Elnara is about as different as it's possible to be while still being an elf. Despite the fact that she is their sister, they refuse to acknowledge her existence. Ruel ... is one of the worst of them, that way, and that's why he and his sons don't agree. They see no reason not to accept people on a basis of what they are."

She sighed. "Unfortunately, when the boys got old enough to travel, the first place they went was to the Borderlands, to meet their grandmother, Elnara's mother. She's just like Elnara, and it only served to widen the rift between Ruel and his sons."

"Well then," Earendil grinned at Lin, "what shall we show them first?"

"She did mention something of the sort when she visited," Elnara agreed sadly. "But I think it's wonderful that they go to visit her anyways."

She was discouraged, though. She had hoped that time would help to change his attitude towards her, and seeing Elrohir had only strengthened that hope. Now, she realized, no amount of time could change her second brother's way of thinking.

"Yeah!" Storm added eagerly. "Where to first?" His black wings fluttered excitedly, and he bounced up on the balls of his feet.

Lore looked thoughtful, and wondered if he should be quite worried, "I see, that would be a problem."

This trip did have proverbial landmines after all he thought, though he wasn't sure how that would affect the both of them, or the children for that matter.

"Hmmm...." Lin supposed it would make sense to start from wtihin the castle first.

They had already kind of been thorugh the maze, so....

"The library," she replied, "Since that was where she spent her time when she was waiting for Earendil. Though she could not read she spent it with Sir Valemdar, he tended to read them.

The manservant returned just then with a tray of drinks - glasses of white wine. He set a glass near everyone, the smaller glasses for the children on a table where they would all be able to reach, then bowed and left the room once more.

Atalya nodded seriously at Lore's comment. "We can be grateful, however," she added, "that not all of them are like that."

She picked up her glass and sipped at her wine.

Earendil chuckled and picked up the two tiny angels as well, putting them on his shoulders, and started out of the Dining Hall. "The library it is," he agreed, bouncing Lin a bit in his arms as he walked. He tilted his head curiously. "Do you think we should find Sir Valdemar on the way?" he asked her.

Elnara took a sip of her wine, then held the glass in her hands, tapping it nervously with her forefinger.

"How's Gion doing?" she asked her grandmother. "Donovan said he was going to marry Nadya ... are they married yet? Or better yet, how long ago was it that Donovan was there?"

She looked back at Lore and explained, "Donovan, Triton and Yue came here to get rid of the men who were targeting my mother, and apparently they took Nadya and Gion with them ..."

She paused. "Have I ... ever told you about Nadya?" She knew she had told him Gion was the only brother that she really trusted, but she had no idea whether or not she had ever mentioned her childhood friend to him.

Lin giggled at that as she bounced in his arms, she looked thoughtful as to whether or not they should be find Sir Valdemar. It would be nice, when she really thought about it to see him again.

"Yes, I think so," Lin replied, besides would he not be happy to see all of Elnara's children?

Lin thought so, therefore they would have to find him, besides Lin had planned to spend time with them both again, seeing as she had to practice while she was here.

Lore paused for a moment, holding his glass thinking about all the conversations he had with Elnara. The topic of her home had not come up that often as far as he knew, but... in passing.

"In passing I belief," he murmured, "But no more than that."

Storm blinked at Earendil and Lin curiously. "Who's that?" he asked.

"We didn't meet him yet," Starr mused thoughtfully.

"Well," Storm reasoned with her, "we did just get here, there's lots of people we didn't meet yet."

"That's true," Starr agreed. "We only met a few people so far." She leaned over and peered into Earendil's face. "Is everybody here like Mama?" she asked him.

Elnara nodded at Lore thoughtfully and swirled her wine around in her glass. Suddenly she smiled and tilted her head. "We should visit them while we're here," she suggested. "They sent an invitation the last time Donovan was there, and it's been a long time, even for me ..."

"Sir Valdemar is our historian," Earendil explained to the twins as he headed towards the stairs. "He's the oldest elf alive - and therefore the oldest non-deity alive - and he writes everything down in books and keeps them in our library."

He chuckled at Starr's question. "If you mean, are we all elves, then the answer is yes - for the most part. But I don't think you'll be seeing anyone else, so don't worry about them. Yes, we're all elves here. But if you're asking if we're all as ... special as her, then no, she's the only special elf here."

Atalya nodded and smiled encouragingly. "That would be a good idea," she agreed. "It's been nine years since the last time we had a visitor from Gaia ... except for Lin, that is - and it's been nearly twenty ... no, over twenty years since the last time you were here. Gion would love to see you, as I'm sure Nadya would, too."

She paused. "Unfortunately," she admitted, "I can't tell you whether or not they've married yet, though I imagine they would be by now. When I last saw Gion, he told me of his intent to marry Nadya, and also of his intent that none of the family be present."

She hesitated then, as if she were going to suggest something else, but didn't know whether she should or not.
