Rayne nodded. "yep. and as you probably guessed, im a witch aswell. just thought i should point that out, since some people have issues with that." she looked at her, then spoke into the girls mind. 'i also happen to know that you are certainly not a boy, as the others seem to think. however, unless you ask me to, i will not tell them. although i shall suggest its probably better if you do, because they will eventually find out, and if they find out from some other source, they'll feel betrayed and hurt. just a suggestion, though.'

Walter ignored the other two and continued walking. It wasn't as though his father would think anything of them; the main thing was to get Luke off the streets. And yourself off the streets, some small part of him put in smugly. He blocked it out.

Luke hurried after Walter, sticking close to him. He kept glancing over his shoulder, watching his father. Neverous. Rhynll's fur was on end as well.

"How far away is it?" Luke asked, keeping his voice low. Not many people were out at this time of night with the murderer on the loose and voices tended to carry. The last thing he wanted to do was alert his father as to where he was if he hadn't already recognised him already.

Jane smirked, "Shade listened into your conversation up until you spotted us. He told me that you where a witch." Here she shruged. "Don't worry about it bothering me, though. I've seen some odd stuff in my life." She then thought silently, knowing the wicth would hear. I'm not even suppose to be alive...I'll tell them everything once we get to Oxford.

Dani skidded around the corner, Arba nearly crashing into her and sending them both to the ground. Fortunately, they both remained upright as Dani peered down the street, trying to see how far away the group of people was. She was still trying to see when Arba bit her hand, too roughly to be cosidered palyful. Miffed, she glared down at him, whispering, "What?"

Arba whimpered and nodded down the other side of the street, which Dani had her back to. His fur was standing on end, making him seem larger than he actually was, and his lips were drawn back, revealing his glistening teeth in a silent warning. Dani, quickly forgetting her anger, turned around, seeing the man staggering in their direction. She took an instinctive step backwards, Arba right beside her. Even quieter than before, she whispered, "What's wrong with him? Why's he walking like that? Where's he going?"

Arba, ears flat against his skull, replied, "I'm not sure, but his scent reeks of alcohol. I don't like this. We should leave."

Dani nodded, and turned back the way she had come. Arba followed her, continuing down the street even after Dani had turned into a narrow side street. He felt the beginning strains on their bond, and immediately turned around. He dashed around the corner just as the man crossed the street where he and Dani had been standing less than a minute before. Arba found Dani leaning against the wall a bit farther down the alley, panting. He growled lightly, fur still on end. "What is wrong with you? We should go back to the house. We haven't even gone a block and we're already putting ourselves in danger."

Dani shook her head and pushed off the wall, jogging down the alley. "What if he had seen us, and decided to follow? I couldn't lead him back to the house, not with Dad and Sam there. Besides, " she added, eyes shining in the darkness, "We've still got to find out what Luke and the others are up to, don't we?"

Arba sighed and gave in. "Fine. But if anything goes wrong, it's on your head. And for God's sake," He shot in as Dani tripped over a small piece of wood in the road. "Try to be quiet. We don't want anyone to know we're here until we reveal ourselves." He trotted a bit ahead of Dani, leaving her blushing behind him. She soon caught up, and opened her mouth to give him an angry retort, when he made a low noise in his throat, cutting her off. "We're about level with Luke's group. They're on the other side of this cluster of buildings. Don't say anything."

Walter noticed Luke's tense posture and automatically reached out a hand to ruffle the boy's hair, just like he had when they were younger. He vaguely recalled that Luke had hated it. "So you saw him?" he sighed, "Don't worry about it, okay? The Inn's close, but even if it wasn't I wouldn't let anything happen to you. That part of your life is over. Chapter finished. Done."

In spite of his words, he looked nonchalantly over his shoulder; the other two were still talking. He was about to tell James to move it along using thieves' signs when a chill raced down his spine. He instantly looked down at Alirialie, who gave him a silent nod. He leaned in close to Luke's ear and whispered, so quietly that he couldn't even hear his own voice. "Now, stay calm. We're being marked, and I'm going to try and lose them Try not to make any sound, alright?" He turned back to the others, sending James a heads up with a series of complicated hand signs.

Jane caught what Wink was saying and nodded. She looked down at Shade, he nodded. She signed back to Wink and grabbed Rayne's hand. "Come on, we don't want to get left behind. She trotted over to Luke and Winks side and placed herself in such a way that hid Luke from whoever was trailing them.

Luke shot an irritated look Walter when he ruffled his hair but he smiled a little, appreciatively when he said that that part of his life was over. That meant a lot to him, despite the fact he still couldn't shake the fear of his father finding them.

Luke stiffened hearing that they were being 'marked', whatever that meant. He guessed it meant followed but he couldn't be sure. Either way he was sure it wouldn't be good. He gave a nod to Walter to let him know that he understood and did his best to keep as quiet as ever. Though, as is always the case when silence is needed, he felt the almost unbearable urge to cough once more. He clenched his teeth, determined not to let his body give in to the need, at least until they were out of danger.

Rayne pulled her hand away sharply. "dont touch me-" she blurted out, then stopped. "sorry. conditioned reflex." she said, looking embarrassed. she looked over her shoulder, again wondering who the mysterious figure was, then stifled a yawn. she felt much more tired than she had a few minutes ago. the so-called 'psychic' powers were hard to keep up, draining her more than the other forms of magic.. with a shrug, she hurried to catch up with the boys. suddenly her daemon, ember, who had been flying about, flew up and perched on her shoulder. "anyone deliberately following them?"
"theres some around, but none for certs. 'cept for the drunk guy back there." Rayne nodded, now just behind the boys. she noted the hand signals, but wasnt sure which code they were using, so couldn't translate them. 'hhhmm, spy, thief, assassin or witch? they wouldnt know witches, and they dont look like assassins. still, you can never be sure'

Walter started walking, his footsteps absolutely silent, but froze as Ryane yelled. He turned around, shooting her a dark look, then continued down the street, Alirialie following like a second shadow. He wasn't sure who was tailing them, besides the obvious, but with a witch the Church was looking for in their company and a murderer on the loose, it couldn't hurt to be too careful.

He glanced at Luke, and frowned at the boy's expression. It was almost angry, with a definite side of fear. He stifled the urge to comfort his little brother and looked away. Luke was fifteen; he could manage until they reached the inn.

Arba shot Dani a stern look, warning her not to make a sound. In response, the girl rolled her eyes and seriously considered sneezing, just to see what would happen. In the end, she decided to be a good little girl and keep quiet for the time being. Dani followed after Arba, both of them moving slowly and watching where their footsteps fell.

Arba stopped for a fraction of a second, his fur standing briefly on end before settling back down. Dani understood immediately. They had been found out. Luke's group knew they were being trailed. She wondered if they would keep up the chase, or let it go. Her answer came when Arba nipped her hand, hard enough to casp her to gasp quietly in pain. For a second, the pair glared at each other before they kept moving, hoping that the audible intake of breath had gone unnoticed.

((sorry it's been so long, s**t hit the fan so to speak then i had internet problems but im back now))

Luke followed close to Walter, feeling loud and clumsy next to him, despite the fact he was probably more quiet and dexterous than the average person.

He was struggling with all he had, trying to hold this cough back. He knew the more he held it back the worse it got but he tried anyway. But it had already held back too much already.

"Walter," he said, his voice soft but obviously strained. "I'm sorry, I-" was as far as he got before he started coughing. It started out as just a normal, throaty cough but soon degenerated into a deep, chesty one, making it difficult to catch his breath and breath. Reaching out he put a hand on a wall, trying to keep himself up as the cough continued on and on, burning in his lungs and blood at the back of his throat choking him.

Rayne heard a cough and ember flitted up, but then her eyes widened and she ran over to the boy as he coughed. she could sense them racking his lungs. she gently helped him to sit on the ground.
"you're very, very sick." she said, sadly. she looked up to the other boy. "has he ever, to you knowledge had these coughing fits before? she asked.
not waiting for an answer, she laid a hand on his chest, and closed her eyes, her mind probing through his body, finding out what was wrong.. she opened them.
"oh dear. i was afraid of that." she said quietly. she'd heard of it, of course, but didn't know how to heal it properly. she looked him in the eyes and waited for his coughing to subside. "do you know what illness you have?" she asked, wondering if he knew or if she should break it to him.

Walter stared at his brother for a split second, his eyes wide. The next moment, he reached down and swung Luke up into a fireman's carry over his shoulders. "No time for that," he whispered, matter-of-fact, "Come on." He kept on toward the inn, still making no sound; at least, he assumed he was making no sound. It was difficult to hear any noise he might or might not be making over the thundering of his heart and Luke's coughing. He didn't even look back as Alirialie scooped Rhynall up much as she would a kitten and slipped after him.

Luke shook his head to Rayne's question, he had no idea what it was, only that he had had it a while now and it had slowly gotten worse over time. He couldn't get his breath back enough to asnwer properly though.

Being slung up over Walter's shoulder made it even harder to cough as much as he needed to and with his head down, the blood that had been stuck at the base of his throat moved upwards into his mouth and he raised a hand to his mouth to catch it as he continued to cough.

He felt a tremendous guilt towards Walter about making so much noise with his coughing and his inability to control it. Maybe he should never have agreed to go with Walter, maybe he should just leave at the earliest oportunity. It was far from what he wanted, but he was only going to get Walter in trouble or caught or something with him making all the noise.

Rhynll allowed Alirialie to carry him though his gaze didn't leave Luke, worried about him. The cough wasn't easing up.
