She did have that one post in the information thread back on Tuesday. It sounded like she was confused about whether we had started or not (we had). Maybe she didn't see that we were playing in a different thread from the sticky one with the info?

Hairy Priest It's amusing that the first vote to lynch goes against AttemptedPerfection, because after she explained how the clue leads up to AP = K-9, she's the person I'm most convinced is not mafia. After all, the clue says 'good pets', not evil ones. Many of us are speculating the 2nd clue refers to fourtysecondscarf, but unlike the 1st one, which includes a reference to both the character and player (good pet = K9, try excellently = attempted perfection), 'deep thought' just seems to point to a player, without info about the character. Maybe, as AttemptedPerfection suggested, Ceribri is giving us clues to identify our fellow townspeople, although we can't be sure of that just yet. So far only three people have yet to cough up a name: fourtysecondscarf, Touch My Seizure, and SamuraiButterfly. I notice that two of them were the among the first to start throwing speculation my way, and now fourtysecondscarf is encouraging us to lynch AttemptedPerfection just when we're potentially getting close to sorting out who's who. I think a normal townsperson wouldn't be so eager to just start lynching anyone, out of fear of getting one of their own. Therefore: fourtysecondscarf: 1 (Hairy Priest) 4 to lynch no...I was just insulted... also...I tend to read quickly...so I might have missed some important key words or something....*rummages through the posts* And For your information, I'm Jackie Tyler....*grumblemutter* As stated before, I always percieved revealing my identity as against the rules...and so this...*sigh*

So I'm hoping she checks her PM box (kinda hard not to miss)... sweatdrop

Hairy Priest I think a normal townsperson wouldn't be so eager to just start lynching anyone, out of fear of getting one of their own. Ah, don't get carried away with that thought. Sorry if I seem to be hammering on you Hairy, but in the beginning you were pretty set into getting a lynching going yourself. At least it sounded like it to me. In fact, it was something that had me looking at you. I think that should be an indication that that thought doesn't work. Fourty, I too didn't want to reveal my name. However, on the way things were going I knew that people would throw suspicion at me. And someone did. I felt rather disgruntled about it. We may be going into a grumble fest. And I have no idea what H2G2 even is. Another thing, if AttemptedPerfection is the mafia, then why would he comment about the clue being him. No one was even looking in his direction. And Ceribri said that those clues are for us to start a conversation. Ok, now I'm really lost on what to do. All I know is that my first thought with "Deep Thought" is some form of poetry. And I'm headed for bed. Night all. *collapse*

Umm.. yeah, the clue is to start conversation as well as pointing you in a direction of someone. And it's filling both purposes now, too. ^^

Yeah, I'm indecisive in real life, too. -_-: H2G2 stands for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is the first of a string of books (also Restaurant at the End of the Universe and So Long and Thanks for All the Fish and others, I think). They're science-fiction books written by Douglas Adams, who wrote some episodes of Doctor Who and also served as script editor in season 17. A movie was recently made based on H2G2. I haven't seen it yet. sad [edit: The second sentence just meaning I'm indecisive here and in real life.]

fourtysecondscarf And For your information, I'm Jackie Tyler....*grumblemutter* As stated before, I always percieved revealing my identity as against the rules...and so this...*sigh* I don't know about other Mafia games, but it wasn't against the rules Ceribri listed, so I figured it was legit. Depending on how this first game goes, it may turn out that it does make identifying the Mafia too easy (though we won't know until this game finishes). Ultimately, I think revealing should be an option, though the value of this could be reduced by the moderator by either (1) making sure that not all the obvious major characters are assigned, so the Mafia have roles left to fake (and who knows, maybe that's exactly what Ceribri did), or (2) make it so that everyone knows which characters correspond to special roles (doctor, police, etc.), so that if you DO choose to reveal yourself, it carries the penalty of making public who the special characters are. But we should probably hold off discussing if the rules need to be tweaked until after this one finishes. In the meantime, we should just try to enjoy the current game for what it is. Preferably by winning. pirate Triska Hairy Priest I think a normal townsperson wouldn't be so eager to just start lynching anyone, out of fear of getting one of their own. What you're saying is true... just because someone casts suspicion on someone else early on doesn't mean that they're Mafia. And I admit that my suggesting we shouldn't immediately go with a 'no lynch' on day 1 seems suspicious. However, I had a rationale for that: if we don't even attempt to try and find a mafia on day 1, we'd be no closer on day 2 unless the town cop(s) discovered someone and came forward the next day, essentially giving the Mafia a free kill. If I'd thought about revealing identities earlier, I probably would have suggested it right from the start. Ultimately, I decided against saying all that before because I figured that if I was too vocal about strategy early on, I'd be killed off immediately. Also, I didn't think I could talk everyone out of a 'no lynch' when obviously we had so little to go on about who was guilty, and going against the prevailing opinion would instantly make people wonder, so I backed off. Apparently didn't work, though, since many people still have their doubts about me.

Revealing yourself has never been against the rules of Mafia..I've been in at least four or five and it's always an option for when you're backed against the wall.
It's not required, but it's also not against the rules. It's sometimes not suggested as a good strategy, but that depends on the level of complexity. Obviously the Mafia wouldn't want to reveal, but some of the good guy roles wouldn't want to either.

I'm probably next up for a nightkill, because I'm the Brigadier, and so I'm the one most likely to be a cop I guess. My suspicion is shifting around like an uncomfortable, greasy pig. On Ice! It has now settled on Touch My Seizure...though I can't say why.

SamuraiButterfly Sorry that I missed out on the first part. I'm here now. What's happened in a nut shell? Oh, geez. I'll try, but Ceribri might help out a bit. Check page 7 for the two attempts to start a lynch.
Roobarb's been killed (she was the Face of Boe), but no one was lynched yesterday... Oh, and we've all been revealing which character we are, but (it should never be this obvious!) I think you're beyond suspicion of being Mafia since you weren't around and there was a Nightkill anyway.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to vote for the lynch... I don't trust any of you guys! Except Samurai.

fourtysecondscarf I don't have incentive to show my identity, mainly because I always thought it was against the rules. Even if Ceribri says its alright, every other time I play this in real life, its against the rules...so I'm apprehensive about it...Besides, I think it makes the game more exiting. So you see, some of us just have a funny feeling in our gut about the whole name thing.... Yea, I agree. The rules do say not to reveal your identity unless you reeeallly have to. And it does make the game more exciting 8D Because, if everyone just says who they are (excluding the Mafia, because they would want to keep it a secret) then it would be obvious who the Mafia is, and the game would be over really quickly. And it would be B-O-R-I-N-G.

You could be saying that to make people think that you aren't, because it's be silly to say you are, but in actual fact you ARE the cop! Wait...what? I just confused myself... @3@ I should stop thinking so hard DX

But Ceribri did say that you can't tell cops from Townies by their characters... hey, Stresshog, don't worry, if the Mafia shows up... "five rounds rapid!"
Oh, and no one's come forth as the Doctor yet. Hmm. He must be in this, so one of the people who hasn't declared their identity is our protagonist himself! Probably afraid because the Mafia would assume that the Doctor is a cop or doctor.
