Grams tell me a lot more about yarn than the yardage does. I always look at the grams. It's only lately I even bothered to look at the lengths, only because I was wondering if they even had them printed on the labels. I trust weight more than length.
@ Puppet: That's about a dollar cheaper than what I normally spend on yarn; for both sizes. We got 1000g balls over here of Red Heart but none of them are in black crying The next time I see one that size in white though I'll have it. They are about $14 here.

I got three projects on the go at the same time ^_^; I'll be needing black in a while.
I got to make 56 blocks for one project, 80 blocks for another project, then 1200 blocks for the other one.

Weight tells me exactly how much I have to work with. I know exactly how far 454g takes me. And since I deal with scrap yarn usually, I rely on weights more because the balls I get are usually already used so I don't know how much length I have. Weight is a very important factor for me. So much so that I never bother with lengths unless the ball only spans my armlength(a little more than a metre). Those tiny balls only make one little square for me, but hey; every square counts when I have a blanket that needs 1200.
