The girl waited for just a moment while Ryugi stood with his mouth agape and his face in a mask of blank stupidity... then she yanked her hand away from Ryugi's. SPLASH!No longer able to stand on the water of his own accord, the Angaran would fall straight through into the pool of icy water, dispelling the illusion of the past and making quite a few waves in the process. "Now listen well, boy. You've a great deal of potential in you but it won't be enough for what is still to come."
Hiking up her dress just slightly she crouched down on her haunches; leaning over the bobbing silver head in the water with her arms folded across her knees.
"The difference between an idealist and a hero is that the hero is able to do what must be done. Not if it is painful for himself, but if it is painful for others as well."
"That man Eclipse loved his people. But he did not let that blind him to where the real problem lay. Putting a stop to renegades like Burnheart went a long way towards putting an end to the fighting between your people and the humans."
"A small number of sacrifices saved many lives on both sides."

Ryugi bobbed about in the water, and managed a reply.
By putting a stop to Burnheart's actions, Eclipse helped to prevent further acts of violence from befalling humans by my kind. If he killed him, it was for a good reason.
He bobbed a bit more and looked into the eyes of the girl.
If it came to killing him, I would have done the same, however, I would not have killed him unless it was deemed necessary by his actions and attitude. If he was so far lost in his own madness that he could not see how his actions were effecting the situation, if he was so blinded by his beliefs that he would not change his actions for anything in the world, then it would become necessary for one to put a stop the his actions, one way or another.
Why did the girl talk to Ryugi like he did not understand such things? Ryugi knew how much Eclipse loved his people, he knew how much he fought to protect them, and if the girl was doubting Ryugi's ability to see how the actions of others effected the goals of another, she must not have known him deeply enough to understand how personal that matter really was to him.

D stood up, waving her hand once again. This time, rather than the sea parting or the world turning inside-out, Ryugi felt a strong hand grab him by the collar and lift him straight up out of the water again; a little cold, a little wet, but no worse for wear. When he was set down again the water's surface seemed solid again, at least for now. "She talks to everyone that way. Just because she's beyond comprehension and things like that." "There is a storm coming, Mr. Kazamaru."
Clearly she did not mean anything to do with the weather. She stood motionless out on the water, speaking plainly to the Angaran swordsman without a hint of body language or the slightest change in expression as she did so.
"You were marked. Your life is already forfeit. All those who are marked are given the same choice as you were, boy. If you will not work for me to preserve the spirit world, then you will remain here and preserve this one."
"Mr. Kazamaru there will soon come a time when you must act in order to save many. There will be many people familiar to you, but not all of them will be your allies."
"Remember!"
She threw her hand up in front of Ryugi, holding out two fingers.
"Beware the man of Fah. Do not trust the darkness."

D lowered her hand once more.

Ryugi, soaked, his hair a bit heavier looking than usual, yet still spiky, defying all laws of physics, nodded in understanding. His senses and strange feelings were right afterall. Something strange WAS going on in the background and in the shadows. But what concerned him more were the words of the girl before him. "Your life is already forfeit." she had said. If this girl was truly Death, then perhaps it was a nice way of saying his life was already on lease to him, and the forces that be were simply waiting for him to do something that would justify taking that lease away. Or, perhaps, it meant that it was being judged.
I'll keep that all in mind... Thanks for the forewarning.
He spoke as he went about wringing out his scarf.

"You're being as helpful as ever..." Standing calmly behind Ryugi with his arms folded over his chest, Joshua chided D for her ambiguity. ...but that was the way cosmic forces tended to work. Never saying anything in definites, never saying exactly what they mean, and not telling mortal men the kinds of things that they were never meant to know. There were certain rules, after all, about just how much information could be given to the living. "Just give it to him already and stop confusing the kid." "Hn."
With notable disdain she scoffed at him in reply, turned away and crossed her arms over her chest, but in the end nodded with agreement.
"Very well, then. It still has a few decades left to mature, but I shall push it ahead."
With that declaration, D reached out towards the Angaran with her right hand; staring coldly at him as if she was looking straight through to his very soul... or perhaps not his.
"Ragnarok."
Click!
The girl snapped her fingers; in the cavernous chamber the sound echoed only once before fading into silence again; but with only that gesture she lowered her hand again, turned away, and declared her work done.
"I'm returning now. Take care of the rest, Razliek." "Aye, aye..." was his exacerbated response. Then the girl simply went limp, and began to fall into the water that she had up until then been so naturally standing upon as if it were solid. She did not make it to the surface, however. Within the blink of an eye water splashed around Ryugi as the man behind him rushed forward several steps across the surface of the pond and swung his sword in an arc that cleaved the girl cleanly in two and sent a diagonally sliced half of her torso spinning through the air for several seconds before it finally disappeared beneath the waves. "Heh..." With a satisfied smirk the man in front of Ryugi flicked the blood from his weapon and laid it across his shoulder casually. "I hear people dream about doing that to their bosses."

Ryugi wasn't exactly shocked by Joshua's actions. D wouldn't have let Joshua damage her unless it was needed, and he doubted very much that he could harm her unless she willed it anyway. He puzzled a bit at what had just happened with D snapping her fingers and calling out Ragnarok's name. But now he was left with Joshua, the Servant of Death.
I can imagine...
Ryugi finished wringing out his scarf and placed it about his person once more before speaking to Joshua.
And in your case, I imagine you enjoy that quite a bit...
So...
He started, looking around the cave once more and sighing.
What exactly just happened?

Joshua pressed the flat of the blade against the back of his neck and used it casually as a brace to pop the joints leisurely while Ryugi pondered his situation. Of course he didn't understand, that's why the b***h had left Joshua here to do all the dirty work of explaining things. Ryugi Kazamaru What exactly just happened? "To put it simply..." He stuck out his right hand and pointed over Ryugi's shoulder. "...she woke it up." Looming over Ryugi's shoulder there suddenly appeared a set of jaws larger than his head. Following immediately behind them were scaled lips, slitted gold-flecked eyes, and flawlessly polished scales that ran down the length of the serpentine body that had already coiled itself once around at the Angaran's legs and continued on far further beneath the icy waters of the secluded lake.
With golden talons borne and wings spread wide, the silver scales coating its body shone white in the moonlight and illuminated the entire cavern with the radiance of celestial light.
"Ry... u... gi... Ka... za... ma... ru..."
Now towering overhead, the silver dragon stared down upon the Angaran with an unexplainable fascination.

Ryugi looked at Joshua questioningly for a moment. "She woke it up." What exactly was he talking about? But when Joshua pointed over his shoulder at something behind him, Ryugi turned and came face to face with something so amazing, so glorious, so unbelievable that all he could do was gaze up at the massive shining creature with awe. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Silvery scales seemed to glow with an otherworldly radiance, and golden talons and eyes glinted in the celestial light that radiated through the cavern. And then it spoke... Slowly and almost curiously, the massive dragon before him spoke Ryugi's name and seemed to investigate him with amazing curiosity. Ryugi's gaze was broken for a moment before he spoke in reply. Yes...? That is my name... And you are...?Not exactly the most epic reply one could come up with, but when you're staring down a massive celestial dragon of sorts that wasn't there a moment before, your brain would probably be must too.

"You should know," Joshua called out to him, "you've been with it for years now." The dragon hardly moved, it hardly breathed, it simply sat motionless as it stared down the Angaran with an unwavering fixation. The creature's maw was so close that he could feel the gusts of warm breath on his face, but even though the breath was hot against his skin the ice in his wet hair and the snow clinging to his face did not release its grip upon him.
Before him now, Ryugi was not just seeing the arrival of a magnificent beast, he was baring witness to the spark of life itself.
"Master Ka... zama... ru... Rag... narok..."

Ryugi paused. Ragnarok...? The great dragon before him was named Ragnarok... It all suddenly made sense as Joshua spoke. D had called to Ragnarok before she left, and claimed to be pushing it along. Then that meant that...this dragon, this mighty creature, was a spiritual representation of Ragnarok, given consciousness, given life. This mighty dragon was the essence of the sword at Ryugi's back...
Ragnarok...
Ryugi turned to Joshua after staring into the great golden eyes of the magnificent being before him.
Then this creature... This is the spirit within my sword? Its essence? My partner in battle...

And Joshua... laughed.
"Yes, yes," he said, waving a hand around like just that much would explain it all. "That... there... is the soul of your sword. Or... it's what your sword wished to be once it was able to take form."
"It's complicated," he finally said, as if that made it any easier for Ryugi to understand, "but souls do not last forever. Sometimes they become so tainted by life that there is no other option than to snuff them out, or they would just corrupt another life when they are reincarnated again. With these few, and those that choose to not come back from the spirit world, eventually the souls would run out, right? But new souls can be born, too. This is one way that a spirit is sometimes born."
Joshua waved the tip of his sword in the air above, gesturing towards the spiritual creature that towered over the two bodies that were truly there within the cave.
"Over time, with enough emotional and spiritual energy invested into an object, sometimes that object can form a new soul out of what it had received from others. It normally takes hundreds, even thousands of years... but sometimes it happens much faster. You've heard of idols coming to life when many people pray to them, right?
"So..." he cocked his head to the side slightly, looking fairly displeased that he was made to recite all that just so the Angaran kid would know what the hell was going on, "...that thing there... about half of it came from you."

And the other half I'm assuming came from Eclipse when he wielded the weapon...Ryugi had indeed heard of strange things sometimes gaining a mind of their own. Some were called haunted or possessed, or others granted their owners great strength or other effects. He looks magnificent... He almost looks like a Platinum. There aren't any living today, but I've read about them in legends of my people. Platinum Dragons are said to be the most powerful dragons short of the Adamants themselves.Ryugi looked once more at the dragon before him, wondering what this birth might mean for him and then turned back to face Joshua. I'm sure this is a massively significant event... But what kinds of effects will battle have on Ragnarok when I use the weapon in combat? And for that matter, what effects will this have on me?Ryugi had never dealt with something of this magnitude, and therefore was curious how this would effect his ability to fight in the upcoming dangers that D had mentioned a few minutes ago before she left.

(( Man, life's been pretty... I wanna say 'epic', but it's probably more like 'full of stuff'... for the last two weeks or so. Also: paper to write over the weekend. Lawlz. Need to try and keep to a minimum of one post a day, though, so I don't end up glaciering this thing. ...now what choice did I pick again? xp )) As Ryugi stared in awe at the gleaming form of his spiritual companion, Joshua said nothing to interrupt his amazement. Though silent, he drew a knife from his belt and plunged the tip into his forearm; cutting a seam down the length of it until he twisted it in a hook at the wrist to sever an artery. Ryugi Kazamaru I'm sure this is a massively significant event... But what kinds of effects will battle have on Ragnarok when I use the weapon in combat? And for that matter, what effects will this have on me? "Who knows." Black blood ran down his arm and off of his hand into the water beneath Joshua's feet; staining it a dark color as the blood mixed with the clear pond. About a pint or so was bled out before it stopped. Joshua then used the edge of the knife to 'shave' off the majority of the blood clinging to his skin and flicked that into the water as well; clean, unbroken skin left in place of the cut. "...but I suppose you're going to have to find out, aren't you?" The Reaper looked up at Ryugi with a malevolent gleam in his eyes. There was a threefold warning... Ryugi's spiritual sense would light up suddenly to something that seemed directly opposite to Ragnarok's presence... he would feel a growing pain burning into the back of his neck again... and a crimson aura like wafting smoke began to rise off of the Reaper. "Prepare yourself," he said in a voice much colder than he had used in a long time, "this time won't be about fun and games." Then, like a bullet fired from a gun, the energy that had accumulated around the Reaper shot straight downwards into the lake surface and dispersed throughout the water with a dull red glow.

Well damn. There goes the neighborhood. Ryugi had this wonderful new power to make use of during battle, but had no idea how to use it, or what it entailed. And to make matters worse, the Reaper was getting all pissy again. Couldn't we all just get along? Apparently not...
Ryugi quickly gripped the handle of Ragnarok...while glancing up at Ragnarok. Boy this was gonna be a change to get used to... And as he gripped the blade he quickly moved into a battle stance, ignoring the burning of the mark, which he'd begun to grow more accustomed to, and focusing on his surroundings.
Well Ragnarok, I guess we'll get to know each other a bit more, and rather quickly, because whatever he's planning doesn't look too good. I sure hope you can fight...
