Maximos wasnt sure which Ryugi meant either. But he assumed the weapon, if they had traveled a few more days he might have assumed himself. But either way he smiled right on through, immediately picking up on Ryugi's second comment, and bringing his hands up to tug on the straps of his backpack.

Indeed! Mus'nt keep anyone waiting!

He would pause for just one more over the shoulder glance at the temple before they departed, and traveled back across the golden path.

After a bit more walking, the pair finally reached the Inn, and Ryugi opened the door leading inside. It had been a while since he'd been in Presea. Infact, the last time Ryugi had visited Angara, he'd been too busy to stop by and take a look at the town. Either way, it felt good to be "home" again. As he opened the door, he would see that the lobby of the Inn was pretty much the same as he remembered it, though, the Innkeeper was different. As Maximos entered, he would see a young woman sweeping behind the counter. She had brown hair, and dark red eyes, almost a brick red. As she heard the bell ring, she looked up, and greeted the two new patrons.

Hello and .... Welcome... to... the...

The young woman stopped as her eyes came to rest on Ryugi. They opened wide, not in horror or shock, but joyous recognition. It was clear she was too stunned to speak.

Heh... Nice to see you too, Grace.

Ryugi smiled a bit as the young woman blinked and tried to gather herself, a couple tears forming in her eyes.

Ry-Ryugi?! It-Its you! Its really really you! I...I can't believe it. Vargus said you were dead, and... I...I thought I'd never see you again!

The girl slowly walked towards Ryugi, her face tearing up a bit more before she gave him a big hug. Ryugi smiled and gave her a hug back.

Grace... It's good to see you too. But come on, I'm here now, so let's stop with the tears, alright?

Grace let go of Ryugi and then looked up towards him, before turning around and speaking again, her voice taking on a bit of a strange tone...

Yes, I suppose you're right... But... I have to ask...

Maximos would read a change in her emotions, her calm features suddenly grew angry and frustrated, and Ryugi's kind face immediately turned to one of shock, and he visibly cowered a bit at her, with a goofy look nonetheless.

...Grace...?

In a flash the young woman spun around and locked Ryugi into a headlock, and proceeded to give him the biggest noogie he'd gotten in centuries.

WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU BOTHER TO COME VISIT ME THE LAST TIME YOU WERE HERE YOU SPIKY-HAIRED GOOF BALL?! Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?! VARGUS AND RYUDO SHOW UP AND TELL ME YOU'RE IN PRISON AND EVEN AFTERWARDS YOU DON'T EVEN DROP BY FOR A HELLO?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! You'd think me being your best friend that you haven't seen in years would be enough of a reason, but NO!! Not even a hello or a peep!! I swear, Kazamaru!!

You really DO have a hard head!!

As Grace lectured Ryugi, he squirmed and flopped about, helpless to do anything to break out of Grace's grasp, afterall, she was a dragon too, and almost as strong as Ryugi. Maximos would probably be getting quite an interesting look into Ryugi's childhood as he watched the pair. At any rate, she'd soon let him up for air... Wouldn't she?

Maximos took in the moment in relative silence. There wasnt much to say, it simply wasnt Maximos' style to comment on every little thing, though he did enjoy it.

It seemed like such a quaint inn! It screamed of simplicity in the purest way, in other words...it was perfect!

His eyes traced along the entryway randomly until his attention was drawn to the young woman behind the counter. She had a homely prettiness to her, very fitting with the small town as a whole, but...when he realized she knew Ryugi...there was trouble. Maximos almost instinctually took a step back, away from the counter while still delivering a warm friendly smile, and a slight wave.

Her stunned reaction said everything her words didnt. There was going to be trouble. Ryugi was a powerful warrior, he had exchanged blows with some of the best fighters Gaia had to offer, truly a Hero. But for all his power, Maximos knew that as a rule of thumb....any simple looking female acquaintence of a Hero such as Ryugi, was likely gobs more powerful than anything Ryugi had faced or would ever face.

In one eye, he saw a quaint little girl. In the other a raging dragon, who's aura spiraled around her with crimson, burning, fangs ready to attack. And Ryugi was poking it. He braced himself, letting the two friends chat and without fail...the dragon was loosed.

Maximos' eyes shot open, as he nearly jumped. The surpise soon melted into a simple smile, spread across his face. In Aria it was very rude to speak in anyones home or establishment until you had be recognized. And so he stayed silent well...that and he didnt know what exactly to say other than to laugh.

After a few more grumbles, some "sorry"s from Ryugi, and plenty of guff, Grace let Ryugi go. She left him to recover a bit as she looked over at Maximos, and smiled kindly, nearly as kindly as Maximos often did.

Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't see you there. You blended in to the shadows so well I barely realized you were there at all.

Grace blushed a bit at her mistake and bowed in apology as Ryugi spoke up.

Grace, I'd like you to meet Maximos, one of my most beloved and trusted friends. Maximos, this is Grace, my closest childhood friend.

Maximos smirked and laughed just a small chuckle.

I get that alot.

He said, stepping forward from the shadow's. He would have offered a timely introduction, naming himself as "but a humble shadow", and giving his name...But, Ryugi had beat him to the punch. None the less he smiled his trademark smile and extended his right hand for a handshake.

A pleasure, Grace.

As he brought his hand back, he would lean forward with a smirk on his face and whisper.

I suppose your the one to ask for all the embarrassing stories, huh?

Grace nodded and shook Maximos' hand before answering, in an equally low voice.

You have no idea.

She chuckled and patted Ryugi on his head.

Hey! I was a good kid growing up...

Ryugi made a silly little pouting face and Grace just grinned, speaking very very quietly. It was the type of quiet that was meant for one person...and perhaps those listening very carefully as well...

...Hot Springs...

Whatever Grace had said had Ryugi's color draining from his face.

Grace... Don't you dare! You know that wasn't my fault!

Strange how the slightly older woman could wield her power over him so easily when prompted. But then again, thats what childhood friends were all about.

...Excellent...

Maximos said with an almost evil grin on his face as he turned to Ryugi, and let slip a tiny chuckle. He and Grace would have to have a loooong conversation tonight. Maximos had such an awesome memory for stories.

And watching her demonstrate her "evil" powers on the poor unsuspecting Ryugi, was simply priceless. If Maximos hadnt known better he would have thought Ryugi had just gone undead, as his face turned as pale as death, and all the shadow could do was laugh...dastardly at that. Some steepled fingers would have fit perfectly in the moment, but Maximos refrained.

Still, are dark evil powers aside, he could see the bond the two shared, and as the laughter faded it brought a small smile to his face. Somewhere, he sort of wished he had a family, and childhood friends still around. But for the moment, he was content to abuse Ryugi's for a few laughs.

Grace stopped chuckling after a bit, and Ryugi seemed to regain some of his composure.

Well, memories aside, I'm sure you two are looking for rooms for the night. I'd be happy to give you a couple. The going rate is thirty a night, but since you guys are friends, I'll give it to you for twenty-five.

Grace smiled and Ryugi spoke.

Sounds good enough. I'll pay for both, of course. Afterall, you ARE a guest of mine Maximos. It would be rude of me NOT to pay for you.

Ryugi would smile and drop several gold coins and some various shiny jewels onto the counter, where Grace would pull them into the safe and hand the both of them their keys.

There you go! Rooms 2A and 2B. They're directly across from one another on the top floor. If you two need anything, don't be afraid to ask.

Grace would smile and see them off to their rooms.

How kind of you! Thank you Ryugi.

Maximos said with a smile. He was already reaching to spin his pack around front and dig around for his gem purse. It hurt every time he sold away a one of his shinies, but...it was the adult thing to do. Thankfully, today he didnt have to do it!

And Grace was so nice too, a discount for her long lost friend. Maximos was all smiles, he would have to make a note to find out at least a one embarrassing story some time during their trip. But...not tonight.

He followed, his face a glow with a grin, his eyes taking in every little detail. From the vase in the window, to the color of the sheet over the table. He loved the quaint, cozy design of this place. The way it seemed so homey. So warm. So normal. For right now, there was a care, a worry, an issue, a concern, no not even a problem in all the world. He gave Ryugi a stout nod, and a similar one was passed to Grace only accompanied with a "Thank you", and headed off into his room. And he would enter the room.

Almost immediately, he found the bed and tossed the pack off his back and onto it. Next came his coat. He dug around in his pack before pulling out a medium sized black box, which he laid on the bed with pristine care. With it out of the way he could easily reach a formal wooden hanger which he used to affix his coat, so that it could hang without wrinkling. Dressed in a black vest, with a white dress shirt beneath, Maximos then proceeded to the most important matter at hand. Relaxing.

He set his bag on the floor, evenly placed his boots beside it, and laid back. His head ever so gently rested on a pillow, his arms folded back behind it and finally completely satisfied said...

Ahh...

And for the moment, here Maximos would stay. Unless of course his attention was pulled elsewhere.

You're welcome Max. Have a good night.

Ryugi would see his friend off, and then gather his own key from Grace. Afterwards, he'd make his way up the stairs to his own room, and make himself at home as well. His weapons, Ragnarok and Sol Blade, were the first articles to be removed from his person. Both were placed against the headboard of the bed within reach if trouble were to arise. His white coat was the next thing to be removed, and was folded and hung neatly over the back of a chair at the table. Next came his black jacket and dragonsteel mail which were placed on the seat of the chair, both folded neatly. His gloves were next, taking up residence on the seat on top of the jacket and mail. His boots were last, and were placed off to the side of the chair, leaving him wearing his white undershirt, black pants, and black socks.

Once settled in, he'd then head to the stove and sink and begin to boil some water for tea. Tea was always soothing and relaxing, and he'd decided to make a cup before looking out his window at the rest of the town going on below him.

It would take some time. Five, ten, maybe even thirty minutes before the Shadow alone in the room would stir. He counted marks on the ceiling like a little boy counting stars in the middle of the forest. Slowly, messing up tufts of spiky blue on the pillow behind him he turned this head to the side gazing out at the sky.

It was so amazingly beautiful, and clear. Even could see every star, every inch of a pristine, mar-less sky. He owed Ryugi a debt of gratitude he could never hope to pay.

Maximos turned, flipping his feet over the side of the bed and rising to a sitting position. He lifted the black box he had set aside laying it gently across his lap, a small almost melancholy smile slipping across his lips. His hands met in the middle of the box just above the latch and caressed the coarse wood, in opposite directions and then down the side of the box before sliding back together up front, both thumbs meeting just below the latch. It was as if this was some sort of secret treasure, something of unspeakable value.

With a simple click, Maximos opened the latch and slipped the top up revealing a simple ebony violin. It was devoid of magic, devoid of shadow or any sort of unearthly presence, but it held a magic over Maximos like only one other in all the worlds did.

He carefully lifted the instrument, bringing it up to his shoulder, and layed his face against it. His eyes slowly closed, his fingers slowly brought up the bow, while embracing the strings. Through this vessel, through this sanguine channel, Maximos was truly able to release his feelings, his emotions, he held no mask of a thousand smiles. He released his worries, and played.

Of course, any musical instrument was not something that was generally quiet and kept to oneself. By their nature, instruments were made to be heard, and as Ryugi sat looking out the window, the hauntingly beautiful melody from across the hallway began to flow into his room.

At first, it was soft, gentle, light and had a softer quality about it, the notes flowing smoothly from the strings of the instrument and the emotions from the player. And as it continued, it got stronger as more power came from the notes and the feeling evoked thoughts within Ryugi's mind as the melody swirled around him and the room.

His eyes closed and he sat back in the chair, his mind drifting back into times long past, times of his childhood. He could see his friends, his family, his mother and father calling the boys to dinner, and the both of them running across the fields at full tilt with Vargus and Grace in tow. He flashed back to another time when he had fallen and scraped his knee, and his mother's cool soft touch came down and helped him up. He could smell her perfume, feel her cool touch, and he could hear her soft voice comforting him as she pulled him up and embraced him in a hug.

Another memory came and he saw he and Vargus sitting back to back on a rock, sun going down when they were very young. He felt chilled, but realized it wasn't cold, it was him. He was nervous, afraid, scared of what she would say when he told her... Then, her voice could be heard, and he felt himself warm, and a feeling of joy came over him as he turned to her young blushing face. He looked into her eyes and the two of them drew closer together, until Ryudo crashed through the bushes laughing and teasing, before Grace struck him, and then the two of them laughed.

Then another flash of memory... No, he didn't want to remember this one. There it was, all out in front of him. His town was in flames, people were shouting, people were crying, and there he was, laughing crazily, madly, angrily. And in his arms was Vargus. With a toss, she was on the ground, and he was at her side immediately. She was hurt, crying, but still so sweet and innocent. Her voice was soft, weak, and fading, and then her hand went limp. The pain, the grief, it was all so overbearing. He'd lost everything he held dear. His mother, his father, his love, his home, and the one that had caused it all was his own brother. But he didn't give up, he didn't give in. Through the tears and the pain, the sadness and the grief, he stood up, stood tall, gripped his blade, and forced himself to stand up, get up, and fight to stop this from ever happening to anyone else. He couldn't be mad at his brother, but he would never want anyone to go through such pain again, and even if they did, he'd want to be there to suffer it with them.

With an opening of his eyes, he looked out to the sky, and saw clouds softly drifting through the blue. He stood up and walked to the door of his room, and quietly opened it, the music growing louder as he then leaned up against the wall next to his friend's door, and as the music came to an end, he'd speak.

Never in all my life have I heard something as beautiful as that song... What do you call it?

As the music finally settled, Maximos smiled slightly, yet honestly feeling as if a large weight had just been lifted off his shoulders and wafted away on the wind in the form of musical notes. To this point, every song he had played was in the silence of the bowels of Shadow Island. He had never named a piece before, and so there was a moment of silence.

Maximos set the violin back down in its case, and thought. The memories, the emotions they poured through him as he played, voicing themselves as slight turns in the melody. But in the end it almost all centered around one place, one time, one set of memories, and one thing lost he would never get back.

...Aria.

He said softly, just loud enough to escape past the door frame to his friends ear. The word meant more to Maximos that Ryugi would likely ever know, though in common "Aria" was also the word for a sad solo melody.

There was just a slight pause, the sound of a latch shutting, before he continued.

The doors open, come in.

If Ryugi entered, he would see Maximos setting a the black box back gently on the floor and sitting in the center of his bed with a trademark Maximos smile on his face.

I hope I didnt wake you...

Not at all. The sun might have gone down, but that doesn't mean we've all gone to sleep.

Ryugi walked his way to the window and looked out on the street. Street lamps lit with torches were beginning to flicker on as people went around their evening life.

ANyway, I didn't know you played an instrument.

Good, good.

He said, his smile brightening just a bit, his eyes following Ryugi to the window. He had lost himself in the moment, it seemed and entirely missed the transition to night lighting. Still the view was as beautiful as ever.

I try...

Maximos said, his glance sliding down to the violin case for a moment, and then back to Ryugi.

I would be horrible if not for Lucind's help.

He paused and then smirked, just a bit. He couldnt lie, he was excited, this was his first performance, his first audience!

So it really wasnt that bad?
