Al got a nod of thanks for his heal and Rep was right back at what he'd been doing before, only this time on the fumes of other people's fear. He tried not to think too much about that, that he was using someone else's energy in lieu of his own.

He tried just focusing on swinging instead.

Noah's foot slipped again in the goop on the floor as he moved to attack the thing again, and his fist tightened on Laz's handle. He was getting tired, and Laz's shield was getting thin, and the gigantic reanimated corpse thing showed no sign of falling over dead. Re-dead?

No time to think over the semantic nuances of what you called a dead zombie. Noah sidled back toward one of the half-shattered pillars for cover. He'd get a band-aid on and get back to it in a moment.

A silent agreement, and they strode forward, grinning through the soreness and aches, planted one foot, and brought Ferros around in a full circle; the hammer burst into a brilliant, vicious ball of flame as they spun, and when the strike landed, it burned deep into the creature's hide.

Al caught up with Noah again after searching for him a bit. Finding him tucked away and patching himself, Al figured now was a good time to slap one on his forearm. "Ey." He sat down beside him. "Lookin' rough man."

"I'm fine." Lukas was curt, annoyed -- shaking Cain off but then circling slowly while he waited for an opening, something to do. His own ears were ringing a bit, his expression distracted, and as soon as the creature was within striking zone again, he slid away: quick, nimble, to strike out at the beast with a stored charge he couldn't wait to let off.

He moved quickly, and maybe the blows were only glancing, scratching at hide, but they were better than standing around and huffing and puffing and waiting for someone else to do something. Worth it, Lukas thought.

Maybe he'd think something else later.

HP: 35

Getchen had allowed herself to be drawn backwards, but only a few feet before she was drawing out of his grasp, wide eyes glued on the giant thing they were supposed to be fighting. It seemed impossible, at least until they had managed to get the massive head under control. "Jesus..." It was barely a whisper, but as Lukas headed back to the fight Gretchen followed, swallowing back a frightened sound.

She paused though, glancing over her shoulder at Cain. "We gotta help." She didn't sound sure of herself there, but she was moving forward again despite the ever growing desire to run the ******** away. This was ridiculous, it had seemed hopeless, but it looked like they were making progress. Maybe.

Jogging, she was right on Lukas' heels as he moved to attack, and her's followed.

Oh Lukas didn't need his advice, wanted to get squished like an ant under the god dang thing? Fine. Good riddance. But then Gretchen shook loose and violet eyes narrowed with a puzzled look. Her too? And here he had given her credit for being smarter. A look back and Cain struggled with what to do now, he could leave them, it seemed smarter but then just a glance around said everyone was now attacking the head.

He couldn't stand feeling useless, didn't want to be that.

Fine.

He watched their backs as they attacked, fine on repeat in mind, why not. Why not attack the huge ******** monster, why the hell not! Following his group Cain went in between them and reared back taking out some pent up aggression as the serrated blade landed its hit. "You guys are assholes."

Somewhere, in that horrible bustle that surrounded the camp, she'd lost Joy - which sounded entirely too ominous. She pinched the inside of her arm sharply and dodged a very burly woman who twirled a set of daggers as she ran -ran towards some huge snake-beast. Her coat streamed out behind her like stained smoke, white but grimy with blood and disease. Hope was far enough back to be safe, she thought, and no one seemed to notice her, after all. It was not unusual for her to go unnoticed; she didn't mind it, it allowed her to get things done without interruption. And, as much as she found herself inadvertently wanting to stay and watch as a dozen hunters launched themselves at the snake, power and finesse in every line of their bodies, she should help where she could. Hope turned her back on the creature and frantically hurried towards a nearby tent.

Medical supplies, bandages, quick, secure dressings that could be slapped on without a thought and stay throughout a body's twisting and turning: these were her goals. She was weaker than these people, and not equipped to deal damage, but surely she could help staunch blood, bandage fingers. whatever, however she could be helpful. This tent looked promising, a roll of gauze balanced precariously on a table's edge. Hope flipped open the lid of a box and paused. Inside it lay faintly glowing things, inscribed with odd characters. She hmphed - had she inadvertently stepped onto the set of some fantasy show? Picking one up, she turned it, watching the glow pulse in the light.

"What division are you?" The voice barked out behind her and she whirled, the rune falling to bounce on top of her toes before hitting the cold ground. It skittered forward and stopped to rest against someone else's shoe. Hope looked up, and up, and up. She had always though she was a rather average sized woman, but this man made her feel like an ant. His gleaming white coat only made him seem larger. A cut on his forehead trickled blood down his temple and her fingers twitched to patch it. If blood got into his eye, it would compromise his sight and-

"Ah, no division, necessarily..."

"You're a civillian." The hunter cursed as her non-answer gave her away. "We have to get out of here, okay? It's too dangerous for you." Hope's mouth set into a stubborn line and her arms crossed over her chest. Did he think she was useless? They argued back and forth briefly, both of their voices rising in tandem. Hope didn't understand - why couldn't she help?

"And I'm telling you that I can help! I'm a doctor, for ******** sake!"

"Christ. I don't have time for this." The hunter pinched the bridge of his nose underneath thick-rimmed glasses. Abruptly, his hand shot out, vise-like fingers wrapping around her wrist. Hope squeaked in surprise and he began to drag her out of the tent. So she did exactly what her mother told her to do if someone was taking her where she did not want to go - she dropped, dead weight. He would just have to drag her. This action was met by another stream of curses and something that sounded suspiciously like 'leave her here to die'.

He dropped her arm. "Fine. You wanna stay - you ******** stay. But at least follow me to where you might be of more help than a meat shield." Just like a daisy, Hope popped up, a pleased expression blossoming across her face. That expression fell as the hunter punched her squarely in the stomach. She doubled over, resisting the urge to vomit (she'd had such good control over that as a med student, one punch wouldn't break her). Suddenly, she felt an arm catch around her and the hunter hauled her over one broad shoulder, Hope was so dazed she couldn't do more than weakly kick. Whether she liked it or not, she was leaving. <******** civs, thought the hunter. He wished he could ask for a raise.

LAST PHASE - GET TO THE CHOPPA PORTAL

The constant hail of blows against the enormous creature were having their steady effect, the flesh torn and rent asunder by the constant hail of attacks. Recoiling or trying to, the beast struggled and the chains creaked and strained under the attempts but held fast. Its cries grew louder and louder, the voices bargaining with the attackers with desperate pleas and accusations. Let it go and it would leave, don't hurt it, don't hurt them.

The hunters could feel their attacks making headway, gnawing through the tissue and twisted bones inch by inch until they reached what seemed to pass as a brain. This achieved the going got even easier, soft tissue yielding under bullet and blade until the enormous jaws were the most intact part of the head and even those snapped hopelessly and blindly at the air.

And then, as someone cut just deep enough to strike whatever passed for a nerve the creature let out one last tremendous shriek and thrashed with a ferocity possible only in the grip of death throes. Huge swathes of the mall were demolished by the twisted coils tearing through important foundations and ripping up paving stones. The sound was like a volcano erupting and felt like an earthquake. The fires already burning began to spread until the darkness was lit grimly by the distant banked glow and roar of a fire beginning to find its teeth.

The area around the camp began to crumble and fall into the basement level and the call finally went up to retreat, the portal opened wide.

ROLLING - LAST ONE I PROMISE

Roll 1d100, if you roll over 55, you escape! If not, consider your way blocked by debris or thrashing monster!

Beyond the portal

When people get through to the other side, they will find they are not in the lighthouse but a hastily prepared camp on the edge of the island with absolutely freezing (and communal) showers, standard issue uncomfortable clothing and a lot of stern looking life and death hunters. Everything is labelled with biohazard tags.

They are instructed to clean themselves thoroughly, given a fairly undignified check over to make sure that they did and that they are no longer infected, handed clean clothes and informed that theirs will be returned if possible after being appropriately laundered.

Once they are clean, they are sent on their way and thanked for their help.

It was a longass ******** day.
