Lin had to chuckle at that, though she couldn't blame him for being excited about everything.
"A present for you, actually your ada and I brought this long before we knew there would be a party, but now seems like a good time to give this to you," she smiled.

Andarien was as astonished by the fact that he was getting something as he had been by the decorating and setup.
"For me?" he repeated, amazed. "What is it?"
He ran up to Lin and looked up at her, his cherub face filled with curiosity.

She crouched down so she could be closer to Andarien's height, and set down the box in front of him.
"This will be the bag you'll be traveling with," she explained, "And inside are some things for you, but...."
She reached for the pouch that hung from her belt and handing it over to Andarien.
"You need to figure out how to open it using these gears to make this part move," she showed him at the top of the box,"I'll give this to you now, but you'll save doing this for later since there's still the rest of the party going on."

For a moment, Andarien's bubbly excitement returned, but when Lin told him to save the box for later, his face filled with dismay.
"I have to wait?" he repeated, looking up at her with wide eyes.
It was a puzzle, and there were gears involved, and - and she's just given it to him!

"Well, it would be a bit rude to ignore everyone when there is a party going on just for you right?" Lin inquired.
Maybe she should have waited, but she wasn't sure if that would have been any better. Knowing Andarien, he would just keep asking until she told him, or pout because she wouldn't.

Andarien's eyes grew wide, and he nodded his head vehemently. "Yeah, that would!" he agreed. "I'll do it later!"
He looked around a bit. "Where should we put it til then?" he asked, turning to look back at Lin. "And where should we keep the gears? If we just put the bag on top it might fall off and get lost or something!"

The gears together felt kind of heavy, so Lin doubted that would happen, but since Andarien was worried about it, she iddn't say anything.
"I'll keep them until after the party," Lin explained as she fastened the bag back to her belt.
As she was doing so, the last of the family arrived allowing Kara to announce that dinner was ready.

Andarien scurried back to where Earendil was sitting and climbed up onto a seat. Trusting that Lin would follow, he looked around for his sister. Where had she disappeared to?
Eon put his paws up on Andarien's knees and looked up at him, giving him puppy eyes. Andarien looked down at him, then looked at his parents. "Can he go up on the table?" he asked. "It's his birthday, too ... kind of."
Earendil looked at Lin. He wasn't certain of the rules for pets here.

Lin shook her head at that, "Not on the table please."
While there was no official rule, pets had never eaten on the table, so now wouldn't be a good time to start. It would be a good idea to get Eon use to the idea.
Miyuki sudden appeared and slide into a seat next to Andarien. She noticed that people were gathering to get food, but thought to find her family first before getting anything. Then again it looked like most people were waiting and not rushing for food right away.

Andarien patted Eon on the head. "Sorry, Eon. Not on the table," he said apologetically.
Eon squeaked his disappointment, but he dropped back to the floor obediently and sat next to Andarien's chair.
"Can I give him some of my food, though?" Andarien asked hopefully, looking to Lin once more since it seemed she was the one who knew best what was what around here.

"You're going to have to ask Shiro to see if he knows, I haven't read up on Eon's species to know what he can and cannot eat," she replied.
They seemed feline like, but who knew what they ate. That was something they should find out soon.

Andarien looked around and spotted Shiro over at another table, talking with Skye, who was watching his hands intently.
"Can I ask him now?" he asked Lin, pointing his cousin out to her.

Even though Shiro was talking, Lin didn't see the harm and Andarien did really seem to want to include Eon somehow. So she nodded at this.
"He's talking with Skye, but if you ask politely to ask him about Eon, I'm sure it'll be fine," Lin replied.

"Thank you!" Andarien beamed. He hopped off his chair and with a call of "Come on, Eon!" he was off, running to where Shiro was sitting.
While Andarien was gone, Earendil chuckled at Lin. "He's so excited. Then again, I suppose if there were a celebration like this for me, I would be, too." He looked around at everything, grinning. "I've never seen this much fuss over a birthday before."

"The first year is considered important in Daddy's culture, and over time it's become easier to just make a big fuss over the first year and then Mom bakes a little treat for all the years after," Lin explained.
Besides, to her this wasn't a big fuss, a big fuss was over the party her little sisters had. Now that was a big a fuss.
