In the night,

Haley Rose Parker walked warily through the girls dormitory, lost in what seemed to be an endless corridor. It wasn't endless of course, it was only because she couldn't find her room. Or, they hadn't given her one yet. She stopped dragging her feet, let go of her luggage, and dropped down to the floor. It was only 15 minutes ago since she had arrive at this school, and already she missed her auntie's shrill voice. Haley sighed and leaned her head on the wall. It was evening, the sun had become a streak of purple, red, and orange on the horizon. Back at her home country, the weather had never been this clear. She closed her eyes and thought of home. Back when her parents were alive, the weather was uncertain. She imagined her childhood, when she used to play with them a lot. A smile slowly creased in her face. Then, she snapped out of it. She heard a noise, which had alerted her. Her heart started pumping, but it slowly receded. Haley exhaled with relief.

I hear 'em talk...

"Where's everyone?" She wondered. Not that she needed any of the people in here. She didn't know them or trusted them. The only she could trust in this world was her. And maybe her books. 90% of her luggage was in fact, books. She took out one of her books, her all time favorite, Moon & Sun:The Ruby Key By Holly Lisle. She was her favorite author, although she only liked one or two of her books. She opened the book and started reading, but soon her eyes got heavy. She yawned and fell asleep.

...coldest story, ever told.

Allison Marie Abrams

Once her classes were done for the day, Allison headed back to her room to change for what was no doubt going to be a fun night. She changed into dark blue jeans, and a light blue button down top with pink pinstripes. And of course, her pearls. Upon leaving her room, Allison saw a girl sleeping on the floor, and book in hand. Have I read it? Allison wondered, but suppressed the urge to check the title of the book in the slumbering girls hand. She was definitely new, and Allison felt the need to help her out, a servant's heart.

"Excuse me?" Alli asked softly, in her sweet soprano voice to be as nice as possible to avoid angering a new person. She was rather astounded at the forwardness of Allison's seeking out a new person. Just the day before she would only leave her room for class.

"My name is Allison. You seem lost. Do you need to find your room?" Allison asked, headed off to the side. She wondered where Joseph and Juliette were, she hadn't seen either of the two since lunch, and began to wonder if the plans were canceled. A soft sadness tugged at her heart at the thought of not being able to hang with her friend. Well, Allison thought with a sad inward shrug, I can just take this new girl and make a positive out of a negative.

It wasn't rare to find a new girl wandering around the massive dorm corridor, Allison was one of those girls three years ago when she first joined. Allison wondered what this girl could do, what her special power was. More times than none, everyone's power was cooler than hers, or more complicated or fun. Hers was just so simple and useless. Well, it could come in handy during a battle if she had paper and a pencil. But other than that, it was just for fun. Very useful.

Haley was dreaming. She dreamt she was in a place where she was with her family. And she didn't have any powers. She missed them so much, a tear escaped from her ey. Then, deep inside her thoughts, she heard a melodious voice. It was a girl's voice, and she could faintly hear her call.

She opened her eyes very slowly, her body realising the the time. She rubbed them and they focused, to reveal the image of a petit blonde, with a light blue top."Oh god..." She let out a surprise yell. Back when she was at her auntie's, she had gotten used to being woken up with a broom poking her. This however, was different. She immidiately stood up and back away a few feet from her. Then she arranged her self, patting the dust from her butt and putting her hair into place.

"W-who are you? What do you want?" She tightened her scarf, and rubbing her gloved hands. It was nearly night time, and she figured it would get very, very cold. Yet, this person was wearing jeans and a top that, although cute, would be usless against the cold.

Kyuubi stood in his dorm. He couldn't remember how he got back here. He slowly looked around. This wasn't his dorm. It was his room in the castle. He didn't want to be here. He knew if he was here Satori would know and try to attack his friends back at school. He quickly stood up. This, however made him dizzy. That was an awful feeling to get when you just get up. He sat back down holding his head. He wondered how long he had been gone from school. The last thing he did was fall asleep in the field outside and thats it.

He sighed and went back to the school. He was glad to be back in his dorm. He strangely felt more at home here than there. He walked out and headed to the training room. He hadn't done any in a while and he thought he could use it.

You’d think that the cool air in the office would cool Meredith down, but it couldn’t. She was on fire with emotion. She was excited, nervous, confused, and lonesome all at the same time. Was going to this new school a good idea after all? Would Meredith really have a better learning experience there? Would it be worth leaving Harman? As the questions swirled through her head, she could find no answers. The more she thought about it, the worse she felt and the more on fire she became. The only way to figure it out would be to listen to her councilor that sat in front of her.

“So, what do you think?” Mrs. Helen asked.
Meredith couldn’t even form the words, so she just shrugged her shoulders. That seemed to add worry lines to Mrs. Helen’s forehead.

“You don’t know? You’ve been accepted in one of the best university’s in the world that’s fully focused on powers! It has classes far better than what you could receive here. We only have 5 courses we can offer four-year degrees on, and you were lucky enough that teaching was one of them. But, we can’t offer you grad school classes. They can.”

“I was going to go to Timberland for Grad School.”

“This would look great on everything. I think you should take it, at least go for their second semester. They want you there Meredith. Seriously, you have the highest GPA from your high school education than we’ve ever had. You’re a Genius Legend. You graduated with already finishing your first two semesters of College classes. I’ve lost track of how many after school programs you’ve been in. They want you Meredith, and you deserve this.”

“Shouldn’t you be begging me to stay, since it’ll be better for your college?”

“I’ve been your councilor since you were a freshmen and I want what’s best for you, this is what’s best for you.”

Meredith sighed. Yea, she wanted to go to Snider. It was a great school. It had great teaching programs. However, she wasn’t applying to being a College Professor. She wanted to just be a regular teacher. Since she didn’t want to be ‘too great’ wouldn’t Genius be enough? Anyways, Genius Academy was her home!

“I know you think you have a million years to think about this, but they want to know something now.”Meredith thought for a moment. She had to tell them something but she needed more time to think. Obviously a ‘can I think a little longer’ wouldn’t work.

“How about this?” Meredith spoke after a few moments of thought. “I finish my semester here then consider going to Snider for my fourth semester?”

Obviously, it must have been a good idea, since Mrs. Helen thought over it a little bit before she picked up the phone and dialed. Meredith listened as her idea was discussed. Finally, after a few laughs and obvious sweet-talking, Mrs. Helen looked up and nodded at Meredith.

“He likes your plan, so it’ll work.”

With that settled, Meredith scurried out of the office for a better place to think.

-------------------------

About an hour later, Meredith found herself sitting down on a bench in the Courtyard. She felt as if she made the right decision with staying for another semester, but all that would do was leave her with a little time to decide. How could she make up her mind about this serious of a decision? Snider was nice, but Genius was home. Honestly, it was time to stop thinking about it. All it did was depress her. She should just enjoy this place while she could.

The scenery around her was mostly brown, basic September all around. The leaves were starting to die, and a few were falling off. In the areas that still had grass it was more like a rust color than green, and the areas that were still filled with life had long since been covered with leaves. The air was cool and relaxing. Not yet winter, but a jacket was necessary. In addition, it was just turning dark, which finished the look off. Would London look the same during fall? Could she ever truly enjoy the four seasons across the pond?

If anyone could read Meredith’s thoughts right now, they’d be surprised. The school slut actually cared about her academics, is it even possible? Maybe starting over fresh would be the way to go. She could be who she really was, and let go of her painful defense mechanism. Maybe she’d even learn to be secure in herself. She could be with someone for another reason other than using them. Maybe she could express her love to the only person she cared about. At the moment, it seemed like a far off fantasy.

Before Shayde could answer, he was called into the office and Caleb was left to entertain himself. Looking around he counted the tiles on the floor, and then counted the paneling in the ceiling. Next, he took to staring at the picture across from him which featured a mix of watercolors that didn’t form any obvious image. Squinting he spent the next fifteen minutes trying to find some sort of forms in the hanging. He though he saw a smiley face, and some sort of weird stick figure but everything else was like gobbley-gook. It was after he had come to that conclusion that Shayde came out of the office and left without a word…weird. Well whatever, it was his turn next.

The office was professional, sleek and lacked comfort. Sitting on the edge of the hard wood chair, Caleb was briefed about his stay and gently reprimanded for being late. But after the important information, Caleb’s attention started to wander and he ended up having a glassy eyed look as he stared at a spot on the wall above the administrator’s head.

A half hour later, and he was free! Rushing out of the office, he spent the rest of the day wandering about the campus receiving weird looks because of his outfit and drinking from his gallon of milk. He didn’t bother going to the rest of his classes since he figured there was no point of trying to start a day in the middle of it, so he enjoyed his free time.

It was around dinner time that he figured he should get something to eat. There was the cafeteria, or he could drive around town and try to find something…that could be interesting. His course of action decided, Caleb headed to his car, a beaten up, old, clunker from the late 80’s. Trash littered his car interior and a pile of random papers, books, and clothing cluttered his back seat. It didn’t bother him, though, as his sloppy nature seemed to overflow into his car. Pulling out of the campus cautiously, Caleb drove into town going at a nice, mellow speed of 25 miles per hour. Oblivious to cars that went around him to pass, and of honking horns, Caleb kept a steady pace as he viewed the passing establishments. Seeing a sign that was big, bright, and glowing, Caleb took a split second decision and pulled excruciatingly slow into the lot. ‘Grandma Joe’s Diner’ , it read. Heading in, he sat at a nearby window seat and smiled as the waitress came around. After he ordered, he looked outside the window where several passengers in different cars stared at his colorful figure in disbelief. He merely smiled and waved.

Kyuubi panted after he was done training. Everything around him was nearly destroyed. He was glad he was in a simulation room for that. He heard his stomach rumble. He left the Training Area and began to head to the Cafeteria. He was tired of eating there though. He hadn't been to many places outside of Genius. He decided to find a place. Where to go though? He had no idea. He could go to one the fast food places he had been to a few times. He sighed. He walked past the cafeteria. Soon he was in the Courtyard. He saw someone sitting on a bench. He couldn't tell who it was until he got a little closer.

Allison smiled in reply to the girl's francticness. Allison used to be the edgy one, the one who would question everyone's thoughts and motives. Alli shifted the weight of her large purse onto her other shoulder, giving a smile to the new girl in front of her. "I'm Allison. I was just seeing if you needed help. That's all. Later."

Allison wandered off towards the cafeteria, toying with her dark blue headband that sat across her forehand and the cream colored fabric flower on it. She knew she was hungry, so she went to where she knew she could find food, smiling at everyone who looked at her. She mostly got looks of disbelief back. Some people had just assumed Alli left or was kicked out because of how seldom she was seen out of her dorm, but she would show them.

Alli entered the cafeteria and grabbed a tray of food and sat at a table, alone, and picked at it sparingly, barely eating. But, she sipped at her lemonade, fiddling with her pearls, and tapping her foot to the beat to a song playing in her head. Alli wondered what would happen this next few months of school. She missed so much she didn't know if she would miss it all again. She never saw herself as a big part in her circle of friends, and that her friends had to strain to include her.

All of her thinking automatically brought out her sketch book and she began doodling an abstract shape she had no intention of bringing to life. It was just to help her think of how to be more outgoing around her friends instead of the softspoken little girl she knew she was inside.

Just to ask God the question 'is everyone here make believe?' With a tear in his voice he says 'son, that's the question.' Does this defining silence mean nothing to no one but me....

There was nothing nosier than silence. In silence, thoughts echoed louder than the loudest stereo system. Thoughts of depression would scream to their highest volumes. They’d fill every space possible in a person’s vast mind. That’s why Cory chose screeching music. The melodies would ring throughout the room in a desperate attempt to provide answers. Well, that’s what Cory was trying to make out of it. Instead, all he found was useless noise and painful lyrics. All he wanted was answers, yet the lyrics wouldn’t help him. They just teased and agonized and brought more pain. Yet, he continued to apply the lyrics in his mind.

The more he thought, the more aggravated he became. The music cleared his thoughts some, but he still couldn’t think clearly. When he felt as if his thoughts were getting to the answer, they’d just meet a cloud of confusion and pain. His endless wonders were just forming unanswerable questions. The more questions that screamed, the more depressed Corey became. He probably should have done something instead of laying there in agony. He could have found Archimedes and did something distracting. He could have done something devious with Cadence. Who knows, maybe if he searched the school hard enough, he could even find Lorrie. There were endless things that could occupy his time; endless options to sooth his agony. Yet he sat and let the music drown on. He focused on each song as it ended and as every new one begun. Maybe the next song would clear his mind and give him all the answers. It was with silence that all his thoughts spoke at once, clouding everything with pain and frustration. However, the music wasn’t making much of a difference.

In a show of hands, who has meant these words before? In a show of hearts on the floor, who has ever meant them more...

The melodies continued on, only making minimal difference to his haywire emotions. He could be doing something, anything that could help her. What was holding him back anyways? Why wasn’t he there with her? Oh yea, his mother. Who cares what she thought! She was nothing, an rude insignificant person by his standards. All she was doing was preventing him from helping the most important person in his life. At the moment, that girl needed him. Yet, his mother acted like a road block and prevented him from saving her. He needed to hold her and tell her she was okay. Freak, he didn’t just need to for her sake, but for his. As he laid there in his room he felt as if he was deteriorating. Couldn’t his mother see that? Didn’t she know him well enough to realize that he would never rest until he knew she was okay? This was just wrong and painful. Cory couldn’t take this. He wouldn’t take this.

With that finalized in his mind, he grabbed his phone and started slamming on his phone’s buttons. He dialed each number, only to be interrupted by someone calling. He growled and looked at the phone, ready to yell at anyone stopping his pursuit towards justice. Though, once he saw the number, he lost all train of thought.

Mitsukai was calling.

Cory quickly answered the phone, while running towards his stereo to turn it off (while nearly breaking it in the process). “Mitsukai..” He breathed her name. The sound of the name calmed him, but only for a moment. Because once he breathed her name, his mind went on overdrive thinking of all the reasons she might be calling.

“Honey, are you okay? Whats going on? How’s Georgia? How’s Hana….” Cory went on for quite a few moments. With every word, he put in more care and sympathy than he could have imagined. With every thought, his heart swelled up. He had to be there for the one he loved. All she had to do was say the word…

“I need you, now.”

Those words shifted everything around for Cory. Who cared about his Mother? The only person that mattered and would ever matter needed him in Georgia. He needed her and would go to the ends of the world when she needed him. No matter what she asked, he would do. Therefore, when she said she needed him, he was already packing.

“I’ll be right there.”

Then the phone clicked off. Cory instantly ran around his room, grabbing item of clothing after item. He wasn't looking at what he packed, just as long as it was clothes. He would look like a freak in Georgia, but it wasn't about Matching. The only thing he cared about was making sure Mitsukai was alright. It took him a grand total of 15 minutes to pack.

Cory then rushed off to the airport, driving his jeep at speeds way beyond the speed limit. He made it to the airport in 45 minutes, record time. He then quickly planned to get on a flight. Things must have been working in Cory's favor because he managed to get on the flight that took off in 30 minutes. He paced back in forth, waiting for the plane to board.

During the flight, Cory did his best to distract himself. He blared music, watched stupid movies, and stared out the window and watched the marvelous clouds. When that wasn’t enough, he people watched and even launched into conversations with the old guy sitting next to him. Yet, even as he did all those things, he couldn’t seem to get the nagging thoughts off his mind. He had to keep his cool though. He’d see Mitsukai any moment.

Finally, at midnight the plain landed.

Cory quickly grabbed his luggage then headed towards the exit. He had only been walking a moment when he spotted her.
Once he saw her, his heart stopped.

Even though Cory’s feet seemed heavier, his pace somehow quickened as he approached her. His heartbeat became rushed, and all the noise seemed to drain from around him. All he could focus on was her.

Once he got to her, he took a moment to take her in. Her curves, though now sharper, were just as breath taking as they always had been. Her matted hair still seemed to have the sleek appearance that made him want to run his fingers through the waves. Her hallowed out cheeks brought attention to just how much weight she had lost, yet he still wanted to trace them with his fingertips. His eyes traced her dark skinnys, which brought out just how sexy her legs were. Her navy blue top was flattering on her light creamy brown skin. Her lashes were dotted with traces of tears, which made them glimmer in the light. Everything was perfect about her. Even as her face was tear stained and her eyes were bloodshot and swollen. The only flaw that brought Cory’s attention was the tear stains coating her face and the fact that her cherry pink lips were frowning. With those flaws coming to his attention, he couldn’t help but to grab her and pull her into his arms.

With his touch, Mitsukai seemed to start crying harder. Cory followed his instinct as he ran his fingers through her hair and rubbed her back in order to calm her. “Shh, I’ll be okay.” Cory cooed. Who cares how un-okay the situation truly was. He just wanted Mitsukai to know that in the end, she’d be okay. He was there for her, and he wasn’t leaving until she was okay.

They stood there for a few minutes until their old friend Nikol walked up to them. She gave the signal to follow her, so Cory lead (and half-dragged) Mitsukai in the direction Nikol was going. In a couple of minutes, they were seated in the warm interior of Nikol’s car. She drove towards the hospital, while explaining every detail she knew on the drive there.

She explained how Hana kept getting worse, and there was a slim chance she was going to live. With those words, Mitsukai cried even harder. Nikol also went over what caused Mitsukai to be so devastated, which was a vague explanation saying how Hana forced Mitsukai to touch her, which caused Mitsukai to pass out, only to wake up crying and requesting Cory. She also went over small details of every other thing going on in Georgia. Cory was just barely listing. His attention was focused on the girl cradled in his arms. The whole drive Mitsukai was curled next to him crying. Cory never ceased in his attempts to comfort her.

Once they arrived at the hospital, only a small peek in Hana’s room alerted Cory that something was off. From the looks on Nikol’s face, she had noticed it too. Surrounding Hana’s bed were doctors, all talking in alert and rushed voices. The heartbeat meter was going off frantically, which added to the seriousness. Outside of the room, Mitsukai’s mother Mari was sitting on a bench with her hands in her hands. Her head seemed to be shaking a no, as if she knew what was happing. Mitsukai had also gone on alert, and all of her focus was directed on what was going on in the room.

Suddenly, the heart beat meter stopped. The doctors all looked at each other, and then walked out in a depressed manner. Mari let out an intense sob, and then headed towards the exit. Even Nikol walked away, not wanting to face the hardship that was going on. Mitsukai was the only one who wanted to stay. She rushed into the room and fell down by Hana’s deathbed in tears. Cory honestly felt helpless as he looked on in despair. Finally, after what seemed as forever, Cory pulled Mitsukai out of the room and out the door.

On the first minute of the first hour of September 15, 2009 Hana Kanji took her last breath.

Kyuubi walked towards his dorm. He wasn't sure what he would do now. He completely ignored the idea of going out to eat. He sighed. He could eat later. He was walking around the campus when he saw Cory rush out of the school. He wondered what was going on. Something important from the look of it. Everything had been pretty peaceful today, from what he had seen. It was also a pretty boring day. Nothing to talk about, no one to really talk to. He felt alone today. He was used to it, but it still felt strange. He continued to walk through the halls. Soon he reached his dorm.

His dorm seemed unfamiliar to him. He searched for something. When he couldn't find it he panicked. 'Where is it?' he thought over and over again. He needed to find it. It was the only thing that seemed to keep him sane. Where was the picture? He searched for it everywhere. He searched the drawers, nearly tearing them out of their places. Clothes were everywhere. Papers were all over the place. Nothing was where it should be. After about an hour or so of looking he found it. The only picture left of his parents. He needed to see them every once in a while. It would bring him back to who he truly was, instead of the empty shell he would be without being able to see them.

He looked around his room now. He just noticed how big of a mess he made. He sighed. He didn't want to clean this right now. Sighing, he left the room and began to walk around aimlessly once again. He went to the Courtyard and sat down, he noticed someone else sitting there but didn't pay much attention. He thought about his parents, and his brother.

"...uuuuurrrgggaaaaAAAAAHHH!!"

Chester awoke, sitting upright in his bed, breathing heavily. He clenched a thin white bed sheet as if it would calm the pain he thought he felt. It worked, since none of it was real. He tried to breath, heaving each breath for all it was worth, intohis nose and out his mouth. After ten or twelve breaths, he returned to his normal self. Ish.

His entire body was layered with sweat, making small spots of moisture show up on his white undershirt and leaving his two-colored hair was ruffled, the hair on one side sticking in random directions while the rest laid flat to his scalp. The sweat pants he was wearing were blazing hot to him, and he laid on his back with his legs in the air as he removed them, leaving his gray boxers. An angry grunt left his lips as he struggled out of bed.

"Why do I have these weird dreams, Chester?" he asked himself, trying to walk around his room to cool himself down. As he walked around, he stopped in front of a mirror and looked at himself. He looked pretty miserable, even to himself. The splendid combination of partially sweaty T-shirt, messed up hair, half-there facial hair and saggy boxers made him look like some middle-aged man who lived with his mom. Either that, or some kind of foreign terrorist. Both ways didn't seem so hot to him. He grimaced and went over to his bathroom.

"Because, Chester, you're kind of a freak," he replied to himself, trying to keep himself interested. He grabbed a disposable blue razor out a plastic bag in a drawer and didn't even bother with the shaving cream as he scraped off the scruff on his chin and below his nose. "You like strawberry ice cream..." He shaved one side of his chin. "You read porn to look at the expressions on the girls' faces..." He did the same to the other side. "And you think that there's no such thing as a blue-eyed, blonde-haired, Japanese -- tch!!" He winced as the blade caught his skin, leaving a small laceration across his cheek that dribbled a single drop of blood. He sighed. "Dumb disposable junk..."

"What are you gonna do with your life, Chester?" he reprimanded himself as he made his way from the bathroom into the kitchen. The door of his dishwasher was open, revealing a mold that smeared itself across the insides. "And today's cleanest bowl of the day is... you!" He grabbed a bowl that had a burn stain on the bottom and a plastic jug of warm milk on the counter. "And what's the lucky cereal of the day...?" He looked to the top of his refrigerator at a box that looked rather lonely. "Ah yes. Kix. You've been a favorite for a while now, haven't you?"

After some more sarcastic talks with himself and five partially clean bowls of Kix, he stood with his bowl, still eating, and walked over to his calendar. "Hmm, still got that waitering interview to get to, guitar gigs I might get paid for...oh." He saw the 30th. "Dance. Hmm." He hadn't attended a school event pretty much... ever. "It wouldn't hurt to see what people do in public, I guess."

He quick-changed into a pair of gray, pre-ripped jeans and a black turtleneck vest. "And my last effect for trying to score chicks to bring with me to a dance..." He pulled open a cabinet and dug under a pile of black turtleneck vests. "Ah, hel-LO, darlings." It was a pair of orange and yellow shades that he used to consider lucky, though he now joked that they simply got him lucky. He laughed at the joke as he always did as he slipped them on.

"Oop, almost forgot my cancer sticks." He reached under his pillow and pulled out a pack of Marlboros, taking one out and sticking it behind his ear. "And Ol' Faithful, as well." In the side of the frame, between the metal and his futon, was his trusty lighter. It was a fake gold, scratched and torn from dropping and a certain other accident involving a motorcycle. He didn't light the cigarette yet but walked to the door of his dorm. He yawned.

"Let's go find a date."

And with that, he opened the door, turned off the lights in his room, and left.

And came back in. He cursed under his breath.

"Except I don't know anybody."

He slumped down in the entrance of his room, knocking his head lightly against the frame.

"Now what?"

“Come on babe, its time to wake up.”

Cory opened his eyes and peered up at the beautiful Asian that sat beside him. He took a moment to trace her body with his eyes. He took in her beautiful and falsely innocent wide eyes. He looked at her soft lips, which were turned into a sweet smile. As his eyes went down further, he took in her black lace bra and matching underwear. Then he looked at her soft curves and beautiful long legs. To top it all off, her delicate skin seemed to make everything glow.

“Geez woman, do you ever where clothes?” He joked as he pushed her down on the bed and rolled on top of her. He then gave her a soft kiss.

“You’re going to miss your plane silly!” She giggled and kissed him right back. She then pushed him off. “Anyways, you’re just as naked as I am.” She said, looking at his plaid boxers “Go get dressed.”

With that, she got up and started rummaging through his luggage. After a few minutes, she picked something out and threw it at him. Cory got up obediently and started getting dressed in the clothing she picked out for him. It took him a lot longer than it should have, since he kept peeking over at her as she herself got dressed.

Once he was done, he was all decked out in a pair of dark blue jeans. He also wore a white and light blue plaid button up shirt, with a white tank top underneath. Once he was dressed, he walked over to Mitsukai and wrapped his arms around her now clothed body.

“I liked what you were wearing before better...”He joked as he took in her deep red Hollister shirt, which seemed to hug her body. Then he looked at her kaki shorts, which were far too short to be considered kind. He then looked into her sparkling eyes, and gave her a kiss. Sadly, his body obviously didn’t like the romance, since the growling of his stomach interrupted him.

Mitsukai obviously heard him, since she led him hand in hand, towards the kitchen.
“What do you want to eat?” she asked as she rummaged through the fridge.
“You.” Cory joked, as he continued to check her out.
“Sadly I’m not on the menu.” Mitsukai laughed, and pulled out a few boxes of cereal and milk. She then held up a box of Cookie Crisp and Raisin Bran. “Pick your poison.”
“Hmm, I think I want the cookies.” Cory laughed as he snatched the box from her hand and made his own breakfast. “Thank you darling”

He then sat down on the counter and watched Mitsukai as he ate. As normal, she wasn’t eating anything, but instead drinking a bottle of water. It didn’t take long for her to zone out, and then her upturned lips flip upside down. Cory wasn’t sure if he was ever going to get Mitsukai back, and that worried him.
“Time to go.” Mitsukai announced as she grabbed her keys. Cory sighed, grabbed his luggage, and followed her out the door.

The drive was quick and quiet. Every time Cory peered over at Mitsukai, she seemed to be suffocated by her own thoughts. Cory tried to ignore the fact that he’d be leaving her alone for a week to deal with her own depression. Cory didn’t want to leave Mitsukai like that, but he had no choice.

“Are you going to be okay?” Cory asked, looking at her dead in the eyes. “I’ll stay.” He offered, more like pleaded. All he wanted was for her to tell him to stay, but she wouldn’t be doing that. Instead, she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him. Cory’s heart raced, and when she pulled away he could hardly breathe.

“I love you.” Cory whispered, and felt like his heart was collapsing.
“Only 7 more days.” Mitsukai breathed, and then walked away.

One week later

Waking up was hard when Cory was consumed with such mesmerizing dreams. Yet, he would have to get up today to start school. Therefore, Cory forced himself out of bed and started getting dressed. He threw on the first pair of pants he could get ahold of, then a hoodie, forgetting his actual shirt. He then threw on some TOMs and headed towards the door; only stopping because he had a feeling that he was forgetting something.

Cory turned around and peered over at the calendar by the door, and froze when he saw that it was the 29th. Today was the day that Mitsukai was coming back. Cory quickly rushed out; he didn’t want to miss her arrival.
His first reaction was to knock on her door, just in case she arrived late last night. There was no answer, which left Cory no choice but to sit in the courtyard by the student parking lot. Sure, he could have gotten some breakfast and waited in there. Nevertheless, he wanted to be the very first person to see her.

He didn’t have to wait very long, since only a few minutes later a red sports car came speeding into the school parking lot. Then the girl of his dreams walked out and headed towards him.

“Hunny, you’re going to drive all the boys insane with a car like that.” Mitsukai seemed to ignore his statement.

“Cory, we need to talk.”
With those words, Cory’s heart sank.

Even when there's
N-n-n-nothing worth living for
You're still, you're still, still worth lying for
N-no one has to know-ow, ow-ow, ow-ow
And haven't you heard
The word on the street is
"I lost it, called it quits"
Get into the sun
Out from behind the gossip
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
.

Cadence Saline IvieUser Image

Cadence did end up getting her hair cut after all. She did it about a week before the dance, and she was proud of her complete transformation. No more glasses, no more long, in the way hair, everything was going great, despite the fact that Cory had disappeared for most of the past month. He was back, and it seemed that all he was talking about lately was Mitsukai. It was kinda getting on her nerves, but he was her friend, so she tolerated it. She just hoped for Mitsukai's sake that things went well between the two of them. She pulled her bangs out of her face with a barette. She liked her bangs, she really didn't have any before the cut. Cadence finished inspecting herself in the mirror, happy with the image she saw, and headed out to her room to grab her purse and nearly empty school bag.
Teachers were now glad when she didn't show up for class. At first they were disappointed, that disappointment turned into relief. She tormented them when she could, but, thanks to her powers, they could never take any diciplinary action against her. Poor Mrs. Walters caught the worst of it. She shouldn't have decided to teach at Genius. Cadence laughed softly as she picked up her jacket, reflecting back to the last escapade. The woman feinted, and Cadence was nearly hysterical with laughter.
It had been a few nights previous. She had managed to get into the teacher's office just before dinner, and she waited until Walter's had come back to grade papers. Cadence was invisible, of course, when she started moving things around, knocking others over. The teacher began to try to leave, but Cadence had blocked the way with a forcefield. Mrs. Walters had been banging on the door in a panic, hoping it would yeild to her blows, but Cadence felt no need to let her go. The tears shed meant nothing to her, couldn't erode the rock of her will. She uprooted the desk, sent papers flying, all while the woman was cowering on the floor by the door. A broken desk ornament had cut Cadence's hand when she bent down to scoop up more things to toss about, and as a result, an idea came to mind. Her disembodied hand appeared, bleeding, in front of Mrs. Walters, and that is what had sent her over the edge. The woman feinted as the hand approached closer. Cadence thought it was pathetic and hilarious all at the same time. She had told Archimedes and Cory how it went as soon as she could. It was amazing. It probably would have been more fun with the guys, but she had wanted to go it alone.
Banishing the memory for the time being, Cadence made her way out of her room, through the breakfast line, and to their usual table to wait for her friends. She sat down her food and shrugged on her jacket to shield her from the slight breeze that was picking up outside. She picked up her mug of hot chocolate to sip it as she examined the courtyard. Not many people were about yet, which suited her just fine, the less people that saw her, the better, she thought as she pulled down the hem of her red t-shirt.
