"I know this is hard for you, and it's none of my business but...do you know who the father is?" Jack asked quietly. Shannon's head whipped around.
"Of course I know who the father is!" She snapped, suddenly angry. "I'm not that stupid."
"No, I only meant that if you knew any of the father's medical history it would make it easier for the baby once it's here..."

MeriThranduiliell ((Yay, Boone spawn in less than a year! wink )) Boone blushed a little, then said with a grin, "I have to say, I had my own motive." {Hurray! whee } Claire laughed alittle and went back to his side. She placed her free hand in his and held the baby with the other arm.

((yay! I've found Boone!))
Sun saw Boone and Claire walking down towards the beach through a path in the jungle. She ran over to them and stopped just short of where they stood. Boone and Claire looked up curiously at her.
"Boone! Shannon wants to see you down at the beach. She's with Jack. Come with me, I'll take you to them," Sun said quickly.
Boone looked momentarily alarmed. He looked over at Claire and smiled briskly before heading off after Sun. The two of them marched out across the white sand until they reached the spot where Jack and Shannon were sitting. Shannon's eyes were red from crying. She was staring at the sand, drawing designs in it with her finger as Jack spoke softly. Sun and Boone stopped beside the two.
"Shannon? I found Boone. Do you still want me to get Sayid?" Sun asked lightly.
Shannon wiped the tears from her eyes before looking up at the pair.

" I'll talk to him when he comes back...I just need to talk to Boone alone right now." Jack and Sun nodded understandingly.
"Look, you can come and see me as soon as you feel comfortable okay?" Jack reiterated and Shannon nodded, taking a shaking breath. Jack gave her shoulder a quick squeez and Sun a re-assuring look and then the pair quickly left the 'siblings' alone. The beach was uncharacteristically quiet and void of human acitivity apart from the occaisonal napper or fishing castaway with hopes of getting some sort of dinner considering the ever-elusive boar was still, well to be frank, eluding capture.
For a moment she simply sat there, knees curled beneath her in the sand and continued to trace small circles in the sand with one perfectly painted fingernail. During the silence she tried to calm herself, she'd finally stopped crying, now if only she get her voice not to shake.
"Shan?" Boone sounded tentative-scared almost.
"Please don't hate me." She said right away and turned to face him with shining eyes. "Please don't hate me and please don't think I did this on purpose..." The inkling of fear in Boone's face became more visible but he didn't say anything. "I...I'm pregnant-and I know it's yours. Brian and I were always safe, and at the hotel..." Her voice trailed off.

Boone stared at Shannon for a moment, doing nothing more than blinking. Then the reality hit him; he knew Shannon had to be telling the truth because, frankly, why would she lie about that, and after the conversation he had had with Claire earlier... he had almost expected it. In a quiet voice, Boone finally spoke, "I don't hate you, Shan. I know you didn't do it on purpose." He wished there was some way he could make his "sister" feel less upset, but he really didn't know what to do.

"What am I going to do? s**t...I mean...this place." She gestured to their surroundings. "What am I supposed to do? What are we supposed to do?"

"I don't know... but it'll be okay. Somehow it'll be okay." Boone tried to comfort her as best he could. "We'll think of something; you're not going to have to go through with this alone."

((well, Meri, I actually hadn't seen one of your posts in a while so I had no real inkling as to your whereabouts ^-^ now I've found you. As for Kiyo, I'm borrowing Jack for this scene. Hope you don't mind again!))
Sun and Jack walked away from the pair. Boone's concerned voice slowly faded into the sound of the waves lapping up onto the shore. Once they reached the jungle and were out of earshot, Sun turned to Jack.
"Do you think we can really do this again, Jack? We got lucky with Claire's baby, but with Shannon now..." Sun trailed off.
A stern look creased Jack's features.
"We have to do it. We did it once and I know we can do it again. I'm not going to let anything happen to Shannon or her baby. We're going to have to pray for a miracle, but miracles happen every day, Sun. We can make miracles happen," Jack said hopefully.
Sun was silent. She hoped Jack's intent wouldn't cloud his judgement. They all wanted what was best for Shannon and her baby, but would Jack really be able to handle it? There was so much happening on the island that the prospect looked darker by the second.
"I trust you, Jack. I know Shannon does, too," Sun said quietly.
Jack nodded briskly and headed off into the jungle, leaving Sun standing out in the middle of the trees. He just hoped that he was really up for it. Their resources on the island were limited and their supply of anasthetics was inadequate at best. This definitely wasn't going to be easy on Shannon and they all knew it. All Jack could do was pray for the best...

"Thanks..." Shannon went quiet for a moment and just watched Boone quietly before speaking again. "What will everyone do when they find out? Sayid knows about us...not about the baby obviously but he knows about us, and what happened...but no one else does...unless you told someone?"

"If they do find out the truth, they wouldn't do much. We're adults; if we made a mistake, then we made a mistake. We can handle it." Boone tried to sound more confident than he felt. "I've only told Claire; I was worried about you, and she mentioned what you could be sick from, and it just... came out." He looked up at Shannon to meet her eyes. "I'm sorry if you didn't want me to tell anyone."

"God no...it makes me feel better for telling someone." She sounded more relieved now as they spoke. "I figure when they find out I'm pregnant with your baby that it would be better for them to know we aren't related by blood, you know?

Boone froze for a moment, then put an arm loosely around her. "Yeah, we'll have to be sure to tell them of that."
