We didn't have rum in my day. Well, we did, but it came from Far Cathay and as such was very expensive, even for a King. We tended to stick to wine. Come to think of it, a lot of the time, the wine would stick to us. Or indeed any available surface.
Once my crew and I were marooned on an island. Our ship had been badly damaged, and we had very limited supplies for repairs. We found we had no pitch to caulk the timbers, so we had to use undiluted wine from Sparta. Saw us right all the way home to Ithaka, even if I did have to stop the men from constantly licking the hull.
Now then, who wants to buy an old pirate a drink? There'll be another story in it for you. domokun
