You didn't *Van der Mullen sits up and peels the blanket off his shoulders* I am a notoriously light sleeper. I woke when you approached me. I was dreaming and... *he glances over at the table* you were kind enough to bring me tea...
I admit I have not done or said much to merit such kindness.

*Maggie clasps her hands in front of her, feeling a bit awkward* We have not, perhaps, gotten on so well, but . .. e'eryone deserves kindness.

Miss Dowling... *Van der Mullen stares at his shoes* I have been rude to you since we first met, and for no fault of your own. I... I apologize....

*Maggie blinks, a little surprised, but grateful, especially since it obviously cost him a bit to say* 'Tis alright, Dr. Van der Mullen . . . 'tis a difficult thing te adjust te, coming te this place. *she offers a smile* I am glad that perhaps we might make a better start now than our earlier one.

*he looks around at the Brink as if taking it in for the first time* You... really do believe that this is some place outside of time, don't you?

Aye, *she nods again* For a long while I thought it might be only a dream, or . . . I didna know what. But . . . 'tis coming on two years now since I first appeared here. So much has happened, I am certain now that it must be real.

Truly, I think this place, all the different people here, the worlds and times they come from . . . it seems te me te be too much for any one person te imagine on their own ...
*she thinks for a moment* I have had proof though, *She says, motioning to the door* The door wasna always there, but now, we are able te visit each other's worlds through it. I believed it before, but after I first brought Bard te my time, and my son was able te see him, too . . . I could have no more doubt of it.

*Van der Mullen stares at the door, considering* In Mathematics, the simplest answer is generally the correct one, but there are greater orders complexity that sometimes obscure what is obvious to even a smallest child. You can use the most complex formulae to prove that one plus one is equal to two, and yet... *he holds up his two index fingers and brings them together* I bet your son knows it just as well as any scholar.

*Van der Mullen nods* And so while my brain tells me this is ludicrous. I shall, like my senses at face value. What else can I ... *he fades before he finishes what he meant to say*
**Exit Van der Mullen**
