Nadya smiled inwardly. That was easy. Now came the harder part - convincing the Captain that he and his men were doing a sloppy job up here and letting them know exactly what the dwarfs were getting away with.

Yue had been briefed more by Donovan before they had left, so he could add more to Nadya's arguement. The only real worry he had was that the soldiers might accuse them of not having enough proof. Not everyone considered visions as proof and it wasn't like they had checked themselves.

The soldier led them to a door that seemed to be some sort of tower and opened it for them.

"Just go straight up," he told them. "He's in the only room up there. His name is Captain Hathor."

He put three fingers to his forehead in a militay salute and bowed his head to them.

Nadya showed no indication that she had heard him, but instead swept past him and into the tower. To reply would have shown that they were in fact in no position of authority whatsoever, and then there was a good chance they might not be able to see the Captain at all.

She headed up the stairs, trusting to Yue to follow her lead.

Yue followed her up the stairs, taking note of the surroundings but no more. Though, he supposed he was somewhat curious of what this Captain was like. Since they were going to have to converse with him.

Captain Hathor was completely different from the soldiers that had been down on the walkway in that he was a Westland elf instead of Southland. That meant that he was blond instead of black-haired, and he was a bit taller than the others had been. His skin was a bit paler as well, though still darker than the average human's.

Though he seemed to be off-duty, he was still wearing his uniform, light armour, and blood-red cloak, and his sword was sheathed at his side and not tied down.

When he heard footsteps coming up the stairs, he stood in the center of his room and waited to see who it was.

The room itself was, despite being a barracks, quite nice. The floor and walls were stone, but the bed was nicely carved wood and it had a soft mattress and pillow and thick blankets. This of course was far better than the average soldier's fare, but, as he liked to joke, this was the reason he had worked so hard to gain the rank of Captain.

Nadya entered the room first and stepped to the left, allowing Yue to stand on the right, which was the place of higher authority. The Captain was a Westlander, and thus he would accord Yue with more respect anyways, being a male, and Nadya felt that if worse came to worse, Yue had the stronger magic of the two of them which he would be able to use to convince the Captain of their urgency. Then there was also the fact that in this dim light especially, Yue would appear to the Captain to be a fellow Westlander - another bonus.

She waited for Yue to join her, looking at the Captain through narrow eyes.

Having the feeling he was being subtly herded, Yue took the position on the right, he closed the door behind them. No point for prying eyes, even though there was little he could do about prying ears if there was anyone close.

He then turned to the Captain and stood with his hands behind his back as if he was about to give his daily report to the headmistress. He always felt more formal with his mother than Scott, Scott was a bit odd even for Yue.

The Captain stared unabashedly at the two messengers that had ended up in his quarters, wondering what they were doing there.

"You look as though you have something to say," he nodded at them before even acknowledging their presence. The woman looked as though she had been through hell, so to speak, but the man looked clean enough.

Don't let him speak down to us, Nadya thought to Yue. As messengers from the Queen, we have the higher authority still, despite his rank.

Aloud, she said, "We have a message from Her Majesty, Queen Atalya."

She paused for a moment to gather her strength, though it also seemed to be a good effect.

"You and your men," she pronounced solemnly, "have either been neglecting your duties, which I don't doubt from what we saw only just now alone, or you have been taking part in activities that would have you tried and executed."

Hit them with something hard, and they'll admit to the lesser accusation ... she only hoped it would work. But it was true, in a way - if they were deliberately turning their backs on the activities that were going on in the settlement, they would be tried and executed for treason and child enslavement.

Yue understood, after all a person could think they know better since they had just arrived.

He added to Nadya's message, "The humans have been smuggling children as slaves into this territory, and in return those that are leaving this land are not human nor a child."

Let him think on this, Yue though, either the man is going ot be insulted by the suggestion or won't believe it, or... should good grace allows, he'll belive it, be shocked and do something about it.

"Nonsense," the Captain frowned. "That's impossible. My men watch the dwarfs every moment of every day. There's no way they could be doing something like that."

He strode over to one window and looked out, then nodded. "See? You can see them there, watching just as they're supposed to."

"Now that," Nadya frowned, "is utter nonsense. We came up past three of your men and they were doing nothing more than lounging about. And if you don't believe us, think about this. The Queen's great-grandson was taken by these men and was going to be sold to the dwarfs. He would have been had he not been rescued."

She folded her arms across her chest and lowered her chin slightly, giving off the air of appearing righteously angry.

"Have your men ever searched the cloaks of the 'children' that come with the humans?" Yue question coldly, "Or going out for that matter? Humans can be brought to do what the dwarves cannot. What is the point of exiling them if they still have their fingers in the outside world?"

After all these people were exiled for starting a war, they were watched to keep them from doing something to get back ath those that won. Yet, they still affected the outside world. Yue did not have to pretend to be cold, his experience as a xsecurity head, taught him thatthese people were not doing their job, and that if he had been in charge of their security would have irked ihim naturally.

"We've had no reason to check the cloaks," the Captain retorted, stepping away from the window and turning back to them. "It's true the humans have been bringing their children more often lately, but ... that's never been uncommon."

He had to admit though that there was some logic in what they were saying. His hesitation showed in his eyes, but he still wasn't ready to give up.
