What did you imagine differently for Rosto? But yeah, Daine has 'smokey brown curls' according to every account I've read. Mind you, I've also noticed that Rosto and Numair are the only ones with brown eyes...

Yeah, I do have a reference picture. Here.

Rough? How so? I always imagined him with long hair and being very vain about his appearance....mind you, I only did as well as I could with the limited options that are available on Tektek and Gaia.

It isn't? I just tried it and it works...hmm...

Well... rough as in, a diamond in the rough. Meaning, he could have great potential in his looks if he put more effort into it. I also imagined him with a stubble of a beard. XD If you shaved that, cut the hair (which I imagined slightly unruly), then he could be very handsome. That's how I imagined him, anyways.

Well, it's not working for me. crying

EDIT: So. I'm moving the conversation about the Studio Ghibli movies here, cuz I got lots to say. XD

First of all. I've read the first two books. I thought that there were only two, actually. XD But looking at the list... I realize there's two... And I read them out of order. NYAH! I read the Howl, then House of Many Ways. Bother. But what's funny, is the series doesn't center around Howl and Sophie... Rather, they only make guest appearances in the last two books. I find that weird.

As for the movies, I own Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky (VHS only, sadly), Kiki's Delivery Service, The Cat's Return, and Whisper of the Heart. But my favorites by far are Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Howl's Moving Castle. You really should see the rest of them. They are AMAZING.

You imagine him with the stubble of a beard and unruly hair? Huh. I always imagined him as clean-shaven with long white-blond hair kept neatly back in a ponytail.

That isn't cool....

Excellent idea. There are three, I thought. Castle in the Air is the other one. And it's out of order to read HMC first, then House of Many Ways? Didn't know that.

I'll see if I can get Merc to watch those with me sometime, then.

XD We had opposite thinkings. Well, I dunno. If they ever make a movie, we'll find out. XD

Yesh! Do so!

To change the subject... I'm reading the Song of the Lioness series... And I REALLY like AlannaXJon. crying I dunno. Even though she ends up with George... I love George and all... But I liked seeing Alanna and Jon together. It was cute. >.<

And if they cast James Marsters, whose character of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the one that Tamora Pierce based Rosto on in multiple ways, as Rosto, I'm going to throw a fit. Or the dude who plays Chaucer in A Knight's Tale. That's just as bad....

You like A/J? Traitor. razz I hate A/J - I'm an A/G 'ship supporter. A/L is better than A/J in my book, because the latter never seemed to fit for me, and it was explosive and I don't think it would have worked out in the end - Jon wanted her to be something she wasn't, and George just wanted her to be herself and accepted her for who she was. Besides, George is awesome to begin with.

Wait... Are they actually making a movie? =D

*is 3/4 of the way through "The Woman Who Rides Like A Man"* Mkay. I take that back. Jon was a j@ck@$$. How could he be so rude and... just... UGH!!! George is SO much better! He acted like a complete idiot and b@$t@rd. Excuse my language. I mean, REALLY! *is completely disgusted*

No, but people cast the movies all the time, and the most common picks are those two. All I can say is 'what were they thinking?!?'

Thank you! Jon is just SOOOOOOOOO not right for Alanna, and George is. I love George. George is awesome.

Yeah... I like Thayet and Jon. I really like Thayet and Buri. Alanna and Liam was cute, but it was too bad Liam was afraid of magic. It was like Alanna when she was a kid.

I think I'm kinda weird when I say this. I kinda wanted to see Roger and Alanna play out... I dunno. I thought it was SLIGHTLY interesting. I really wanted to see that. I dunno. Roger was just such a good villain. Nyah. I'm really weird. But I really did want to see what could have happened between them. I mean, I got to see bits and pieces of it in Alanna's visions and dreams, and that's really what whetted my appetite. I dunno. Is that weird?

Roger WAS a good villain - he was probably one of the most enjoyable villains I've run across in Tamora Pierce's books. Admittedly, though, while I don't support the Alanna/Roger pairing, I'm not really averse to it anymore. I was actually writing a fic for a while where Alanna became a Shang (I never got past chapter five, I don't think) where I was going to put a little Alanna/Roger in the second one of the duo, but only because she wasn't aware of her Gift and didn't know that he was trying to use her in his plan, since it had been thwarted repeatedly at that point. There was some A/J friendship in there (no more than that) but the final pairing was A/G.

I liked Liam, though. He was one of my favorite characters, though I didn't really like him with Alanna as much as I liked her with George. He was just a really interesting character, really, and it was a pity that he had to die at the end of Lioness Rampant.

Also, for Kel - I'm a Kel/Dom supporter, but there's a really strange and kind of twisted pairing that I'm actually interested in that isn't used much. It's sort of a guilty pleasure, I guess. Are there any in particular that you like for Kel? I'll tell you what mine is if you answer meh question. biggrin
PostPosted: Mon May 11, 2009 11:03 am

XD I'll answer that about Kel when I get around to rereading the books. Right now I'm starting to reread the Immortals quartet. Then I'll go to Protector of the Small.

It WAS sad. But I still think it was a pity Liam had to be so afraid of magic. *sigh*

Ooh! I wanna read! Y'know, I've always wanted to read a fanfic of A/R, where they somehow get together (either Alanna goes bad, or Roger goes good... I prefer to see Alanna go bad... That would be SO much more interesting. XD), and all that awesomeness. But link meh to that fanfic? =D

M'kay. Let me know when you're done.

It was, it was. They would have been really good friends, I'm sure, had he not been, at the very least. It might have been different, then.

Actually, I'm not done with it. I only got to chapter four of the first one, where Alanna is seven. I had to put it on hold because it wasn't getting any attention, and it was the sequel to that one, anyway, that had the A/R in it, and I only wrote two chapters of that after I wrote the prologue of the first one. But here's the first one all the same, if you still want to read it - Right of the Tigress.

Mind you, it was my second fic, and my first Tortall fic, so be warned; my writing wasn't as good as it is now at that point. If I didn't have writer's block, I might be able to get back to it and finish it over the summer. Maybe I need to reread Song of the Lioness again for it to go away....
PostPosted: Mon May 11, 2009 9:21 pm

Uwaa! You should finish it! I enjoyed what you've already wrote! Though the style isn't too good, it's still very good. The plot is awesome, too. I think you should continue it.

I want to, but I've got an atrocious case of writer's block for it at the moment, and I have a hard time writing stuff that isn't Terrier at the moment. I have another chapter partially done, but it isn't very long (like a couple hundred words) and it isn't at a point where I could cut it off if I wanted to. Maybe I should reread SotL and then rewrite it. I dunno. But, I'll get back to it eventually, with some luck. Maybe after Embers (my AU mid-/post-Eldest fic that needs some work, too) or something. I'm glad that you liked it, though, even if it really isn't all that great style-wise...my early works really could use some work being rewritten at this point....but, alas, I really don't have the time for it, nor will I, I don't think....
