I usually have new papers for my drawings... just because when I scan the pictures in I don't like seeing writing through the paper.... Doodles on the side are good though. Do those alllllll the time.
What I've actually taken to doing now is, when I draw at church (Don't shoot me, it's how I pay attention) putting apart a piece of the paper for notes, so it sometimes looks like I'm doing something more than just drawing.

I doodle in church too. Infact, I was drawing comics in church as well. Glad my parents aren't around then. ninja They'd kill me.
