All true. But I LIKED it. It was dark and broody and had no happy ending. It was a good story, though...very very Age of Enlightenment/Reason-y.

How is that not a happy ending, espicially with the role he plays. And so you know..... this realy isn't a spoiler. Maybe sooner than halfway through the movie his face starts falling apart because he caught some desease from all the prostitutes he's womanized and verbally abused so you see it coming a LONG time ahead of time. Actually.... I think the first scene were he addresses the audience from the shadows involves him saying this was his life and he doesn't like you.

As you just said, Johnny Depp dies, and never really does the whole "moral of the story" thing. He begins as a @#$r;, he remains a @#$r;, he dies a @#$r;. Thus, no happy ending. It's a quality film, damnit.
